Peggy just saw her last patient before she could break for lunch. She moved to the desk in her office to scribble down a few notes, planning to write more later that afternoon. She slid off her purple laboratory coat and grabbed her bag and keys. She went a few doors down and knocked on Martha’s office door frame since the door was open.
“Hello,” Peggy greeted with a warm smile, “Are you about ready to grab a bite to eat?” she asked as she shifted to stand in the doorway.
Martha glanced up at the sound of Peggy’s voice as she finished making notes on her tablet from her most recent patient, “I’m definitely ready for lunch.” The last couple of days had been pretty crazy with everything that had been going on so taking a lunch break was much needed. Closing her tablet, she put it in one of the drawers of her desk then stood up, removing her own lab coat and grabbed her purse, “Where should we go?”
“I am still getting used to being around here,” she replied, “How about you pick today and I’ll pick next time?” She offered as she shifted from the door, Peggy did need to learn where the best place to eat was and with Steve and Peter home, it normally was cooked meals or take out depending on the night. “What are you in the mood for?” she asked.
“Sounds good to me,” Martha smirked then led the way out towards the waiting area where she told the receptionists that they’d be back in an hour before heading out the doors and onto the street, “Lets see, there’s the diner down that way,” She gestured in the direction of a diner that everyone at the clinic frequented often, “But if I’m honest, I kind of want sushi.” Martha hadn’t had sushi in some time and she had been craving it for awhile.
“Sushi it is!” Peggy smiled as she tucked her purse in her arm and started to talk, “It’s one of my favorites, I even learned how to make it, though it never turns out like it does in restaurants. I follow in instructions, even my rolls are perfect, but always just seem blander.” Peggy laughed slightly, “don’t ask me how I mess it up, doesn’t have any cooking but the rice involved.”
“Oh wow, really? I’ve thought about trying my hand at making sushi before, but I’ve never really had the time,” Martha said as they began walking in the direction of the sushi restaurant, which was about a block or so away, “You probably just have to tinker with it. I bet you could find recipes on Pinterest.”
“I had some downtime between leaving borders and moving here,” she explained, “I had a list of things I wanted to try, like knitting, which was alright, but” she shrugged her shoulders, “I found my niche in reading for a while.” She chuckled, “my fav pastime is watching Netflix with Steve, but I normally pass out.”
Martha nodded as they reached the restaurant, “Well, reading and watching Netflix are definitely easier than learning to knit. My grandmother tried teaching me one time and that didn’t go very well at all.” Martha opened the door and held it for Peggy before approaching the hostess stand and telling the woman how many were in their party. “I’m an expert at Netflix watching though,” She smirked, turning back to Peggy before the hostess led them to a table.
She chuckled as she followed the hostess to their table, “If you have any programs to suggest, I’d like to know. Although with Peter now with us, I find Steve seems to be getting more into pop culture more, which is simply adorable.” It would be sad if Peter has ever left them, she was enjoying having him there. She moved to sit down as she thanked the hostess, “I would suggest some, but honestly I haven’t had the chance to finish one yet.”
“I’ll have to think and make a list. Have they watched The Witcher yet? I haven’t, but I’ve heard it’s really good and it’s based off a video game, so I’m sure that’s something they’d like.” Martha had quite a long list of shows and movies on her ‘To Watch’ list on Netflix so she would get to that particular title eventually. “I’ll let you know what else I come up with.” She picked up her menu and began looking it over.
“I’m not sure,” she told her honestly, “there was talk of Lord of the Rings,” she shrugged , “all I know the movie is very long and I went to bed before it was even over. I will suggest it to them.” She picked up the menu, “I find I’ve been watching the documentaries as of late, especially about serial killers.”
“Oh I love Lord of the Rings. I could watch them all over and over again,” Martha could admit that she was a bit of a nerd at times, but she didn’t usually go around talking about those things non stop unless there was a reason, “From what I’ve heard, The Witcher is in that same realm of fantasy.” She glanced over her menu as Peggy brought up documentaries, “I haven’t watched too many of those, but there was one last year that was pretty interesting. Did you watch the one about the girl who was abducted by her neighbor and it took days before her parents called the police? That one was bizarre.”
“Which one was that one, sadly there's been so many kidnapping of little girls,” Peggy replied with a frown. “Just sad with the world we live in.” She put down the menu, “makes you want to help it and make it a better place, anyway you can.” She offered a small smile, “I’ve watched H. H. Holmes: America’s First Serial Killer and the Ted Bundy one. Mindhunters is a good show as well.”
“It’s called Abducted in Plain Sight. It happened in the 70s.” Martha said as she continued looking over the menu, “But I agree. It’s one of the reasons I became a doctor. To help people in whatever way that I can.” She returned Peggy’s smile, sure that that was also part of the reason Peggy had become a doctor as well, “I haven’t gotten a chance to watch Mindhunter yet. It’s also on my ‘To Watch’ list.”
Peggy nodded her head with a soft sigh, she knew all too well how dangerous the world was and could be. When the subject went back to the show, she chuckled softly, “I recommend moving to the top,” she smiled softly as a waitress made her way over to the table, “looks like it’s time to order.”
“I just might have to.” Martha was going to have to take a look at her to watch list and prioritize it sometime soon. “Good, I’m starving.” Martha was glad that her and Peggy had decided to grab lunch together.
