Slowly the world was going back to normal, which meant that businesses and restaurants and bars were reopening and Poe could finally go out to get a drink. Drinking at home while BB-8 rolled around the house had gotten pretty boring after the second day. Perhaps if Poe could understand binary, it might not have been so bad, but alas he still couldn’t understand what the astromech’s beeps and chirps meant.
When word of the bars in his area reopening made the news, Poe decided it was time to celebrate no longer being stuck inside and headed down to one of his favorite bars, heading straight to the bar and ordering a beer. There was just something about being served beer that made it different than getting it yourself.
The first thing Michael wanted to do now that the world was returning to normal was get a drink. His stash at home was running low, but beside that he just missed bars. Drinking at home was getting pretty damn lonely.
Michael into one of the bars he frequented (he had a few) sitting down on an empty bar stool. He ordered himself a shot of whiskey and a beer. Once it was brought to him he took a sip of his beer turning his attention turned to the man beside him. He didn’t usually make too much small talk, but after so much time alone he needed some socializing. “A beer has never tasted so good.”
Poe had just taken a sip of his beer when the man beside him spoke and Poe turned his head in the other man’s direction, dark brown eyes focusing on him in the dim light of the bar, “I have to agree with you there.” He couldn’t help it as his gaze wandered from the man’s face and down over what he could see of his upper body. He didn’t want to make it too obvious that he was checking him out considering they had only said one sentence to each other, but Poe’d only company for the last couple of days had been a droid, so could anyone blame him for this?
Michael could feel the other man’s eyes on him. A small smirk formed on his face, his own eyes wandered over the other man’s muscles. Not bad. He could certainly imagine letting the other man toss him around a bedroom. “Well then,” Michael said letting his tongue run over his lower lip briefly before raising his glass. “Cheers, to freedom.”
Poe may not have been the tallest guy, only coming to about 5’8 ½ or so, but he was fairly muscular and could definitely do a bit of manhandling if he needed to or wanted to, “To freedom,” Poe said in response, raising his glass as well. He’d been in the house for so long with just BB-8 as company or talking to his parents on the phone that it almost felt strange to be talking to another person in the flesh. “I can’t remember the last time I was home, alone for that long. If the lockdown hadn’t been lifted when it was, I’m not sure I would have made it through with my sanity.” Poe smirked and took a sip of his beer.
“Tell me about it,” Michael agreed with another sip of his beer. Michael had always been a loner. He actually didn’t care to interact with people much. But having almost no human interaction for over a week was a little too much alone time even for him. “That was a little too much alone time. Even for me.”
Poe was the complete opposite of a loner; he had a tendency to talk to anyone around him, even if they were a complete stranger and he made friends easily, which was probably one reason he already felt so close to Rey and Finn and he’d only actually seen them in person once. Whatever the reason, Poe enjoyed being around people and at times being the center of attention, “I feel ya. I don’t mind a good staycation, but when staying in is mandatory, it gets really boring, really fast.”
“And the whole not knowing when it would end part kinda sucked too,” Michael added. Thankfully it hadn’t gone on as long as he thought it would. He took another sip of his beer before continuing. “Luckily my job was still considered an essential service. But with barely anyone driving no one was exactly bringing their cars in to get fixed up.” He shrugged his shoulders, finishing off the rest of his drink and motioning for another.
“That part definitely sucked. I’m not very good at sitting around at home alone.” Poe said as he took another sip of his drink, “So you can imagine that it didn’t take me too long to go a little stir crazy.” He smirked at the other man before speaking again, “What’s your job? I’m guessing mechanic.” Considering the part about fixing cars, Poe was pretty sure that he was right.
“What gave me away?” Michael joke with a brow raise. “The mention of fixing up cars?” His beer came and he took a long sip before turning his attention back to the guy next to him. “What about you? What do you do?” Man Michael must have really missed people if he was doing the whole small talk thing. But then the guy was also pretty attractive which definitely warranted conversation.
Poe laughed and nodded, “That’d be it.” He ran a hand through his dark curls, a few strands falling across his forehead, “Former Navy pilot. Now I’m a flight instructor on a base nearby.” If there was one thing Poe had really missed over the last few weeks it had been being inside a cockpit.
Michael wasn’t sure what he was expecting the other guy to say his job was. But it definitely wasn’t that. Michael was slightly impressed. “So you weren’t just stuck inside. You were stuck on the ground.” Michael took another sip of his drink while his statement sunk in. “Yeah, that’d suck.”
“Exactly. It was torture.” Poe might not have flown quite as much as he did when he’d been on active duty, but he still got up there amongst the clouds and when he couldn’t do it that was probably one of the things he hated the most, “If I were still active duty, I probably would have been on base or whatever, but since I’m not I got to sit around my house like most everyone else.”
“That’s saying a lot,” Michael commented. He had to assume he saw some things and lived through some things being a Navy pilot and all. “Well it’s over now.” Thank the lord. Drinking in a bar felt so much less lonely and pathetic than drinking alone at home. “And I for one plan on celebrating all night.”
“Thank god. I don’t know how much longer I could have spent cooped up inside.” Poe didn’t mind drinking alone at home, but it was just so much more fun to do with other people. “I could definitely be up for partying all night.” He turned to the bartender and ordered another drink then glanced back at Michael, “Want another one? It’s on me.” A slow smirk crossed his lips and he waited for a response. “I’m Poe, by the way.” He said, realizing he hadn’t introduced himself yet and extended a hand towards Michael.
“Well if you’re buying,” Michael replied returning Poe’s smirk with one of his own. He wasn’t the type to turn down a free drink. Especially from an attractive guy. “I’ll have another,” he confirmed to the bartender, turning his attention back to Poe. “Michael,” he said shaking Poe’s hand and letting his hand linger a second longer than necessary. “So what else do you like to do other than fly planes and buy random guys drinks?”
“It’s nice to meet you, Michael.” Poe’s intentions that evening hadn’t been to hit on anyone, but he certainly wasn’t going to pass up this chance, “Well, those are definitely my top two favorite things to do, but other than that, I go to the beach on occasion, go camping and do kickboxing when I get the chance.” He took one of the two beers the bartender set down on the bar, not taking his eyes off Michael, “What about you?”
A night of drinking at a bar usually led up to some sort of hook up for Michael. Usually with a woman, but he definitely had his fair share of guys too. It was beginning to look like that was where this was headed.
Not bad hobbies. Kickboxing sounded hot, but Michael chose not to comment on that. Instead he just ran his teeth over his bottom lip keeping his eyes on Poe before answering the question. “Sex.”
Kickboxing was something Poe had picked up while in the Navy and it had led him to install a punching bag in his house and during the quarantine he had been very happy that he had because it had given him something to do aside from sitting around and wondering what BB-8 was saying.
The lip bite was usually one of Poe’s moves, but he certainly didn’t mind when Michael did it and if that move hadn’t confirmed that the other man was interested, his answer certainly did, “Now that is a very fun hobby.” He said, leaning in just a bit closer to Michael, a slightly mischievous gleam in his eyes.
That look in Poe’s eye combined with the leaning in closer was all Michael needed. He closed the rest of the gap between them crashing his lips into Poe’s. This was definitely going to be a good night.
