Who: Poe Dameron & Rey When: Backdated: Beginning of March Where: Poe's House What: Rey has come over to see BB-8 Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Poe still didn’t understand how anything that was happening was possible, but he had finally decided to just stop questioning things and go with the flow. After all, it seemed like that was what everyone else on Valarnet appeared to do.
Now, especially, seemed to be a good time to start going with the flow now that the dreams had decided to gift him with a droid. While their first introduction may not have been ideal, Poe’s calves still hurt, he had to admit that BB-8 was pretty cool. Sure, he had no idea what the astromech was trying to tell him with all his beeping, but he was hopeful that eventually he would. He could in the dreams so why wouldn’t the same eventually be true in the waking world?
Of course now that he knew that BB-8 belonged to him, that brought up the question of how Rey had come by him in her dreams. Poe was extremely curious now as to where exactly he was during this time and hoped that he could get a few more details from Rey so he’s decided to invite her over, partly to question her, but he’d also figured that she’d want to see BB-8 now that he existed in the real world and he was also curious as to whether or not she could understand him outside of the dreams.
Rey had also stopped questioning things, even if she remained a little worried about the direction her dreams were going. But at least she had friends, which, lets face it, was kind of a nice and new thing for her.
She was especially excited to meet BB-8, and to meet BB-8’s owner since she had yet to meet him in her dreams. She was sure she would eventually, but until then this would just have to do.
She arrived after what she hoped wasn’t too long but also wasn’t too short as she wasn’t particularly enthralled with the idea of appearing too eager.
But.
Droid.
“Hello?” She called out, then knocked.
Poe honestly didn’t blame Rey for being excited to meet BB-8 so he wasn’t surprised when he heard her knocking sooner than he’d expected. Walking towards the door, BB-8 beeping and chirping on his heels, Poe opened the door, “Hey. Rey, right?” Since he wasn’t expecting anyone else, he knew it had to be Rey. “Come on in.” As he moved aside, BB-8 beeped and chirped happily, obviously recognizing Rey somehow. “Looks like he’s happy to see you.”
“Hi!” Rey smiled at him, going in for a quick hug of Poe because why not, before kneeling down to rub the Droid’s head and belly like it was a puppy. “You know me!”
She looked up at Poe, shocked. “He knows me!”
When BB-8 trilled again, she frowned. “I have no idea what you’re saying.”
Poe might not have known anything about Rey aside from the fact that they somehow shared dreams, but when she hugged him, he couldn’t help but hug her back then smirked as he watched her interact with BB-8, “Yeah, it seems that way. I’m guessing he knows more than we do.” It was really strange, but Poe was really trying to just go with the flow, “I was afraid of that.” BB-8 turned in a way that indicated he was looking from Rey to Poe, expectantly. “Sorry, buddy, but we still don’t speak droid.”
“I wonder what secrets are locked in his head?” Rey rubbed his head again then straightened up and planted her hands on her hips. How one could learn the droid language she wasn’t actually sure. She understood it in her dreams easily enough.
But she could also fly space ships and in her real life she’d probably crash an airplane.
“I think that’s why he’s a wanted criminal though,” Rey mused. “He said he was on a top secret mission.”
Poe nodded, a little disappointed that Rey didn’t know more, “I guess I’ll just have to wait to find out how we got separated and what this top secret mission is.” He gestured towards the kitchen, “In the meantime, do you want something to drink? I have beer and water.”
BB-8 chirped in response as if to tell Rey to stay awhile then he rolled into the kitchen before either of them even moved, Poe chuckled in response, “He’s already getting bossy.”
She wished she knew what the mission was, beyond getting him back to Poe. She’d last left off when they’d been escaping the First Order and leaving Jakku. A part of her chest constricted just thinking about it. It was a crap-planet but it was her home and she’d been waiting so long for… for people she wasn’t sure would come.
Pushing that aside, Rey folded her arms, watching him roll away. “He seems like the bossy sort. Such personality for a droid! Do you think they’re programmed that way or do they develop it over time?”
Poe laughed and shook his head, “I don’t know. From what I’ve seen in my dreams, he’s always been a little sassy.” BB-8’s personality was probably what had drawn Poe to him and why he had grown so close to the droid, in the dreams, “We should probably follow him. You don’t want him to come back and run into your legs to make you. That fucking hurt.” Poe almost reached down to rub his calves at the memory of BB-8 choosing that way to make his presence known.
Rey still wondered if that was programmed or learned. Or maybe, like people, a droid developed personality ticks when they came out of the factory, as it were. Either say, BB-8 was adorable and really that was all that mattered!
“He’s kind of like a big dog that way, isn’t he?” She started to follow the droid, wondering what he was going to show them.
“A big, round dog.” Poe led the way into the kitchen where BB-8 was idling in the middle of the floor, his domed head swiveling slightly as they entered as if he was looking from Poe then to Rey and back, “You know this would be a lot easier if we understood binary.” Poe wasn’t sure if he was talking to the droid or Rey, but either way it worked, “Did you want a drink?” He’d offered before, but he could understand her being distracted by BB-8 and not answering him the first time.
“There was this pug I knew in Las Vegas,” Rey said. “Small but very round.”
BB-8 kept trilling at them but she could only make out a few words and she doubted BB-8 was saying ‘ceiling trap’ so she figured her translation was off anyway. “Oh! Water, please? I’m sorry. Distracted. Robots!”
Poe laughed and went to grab a bottle of water from the fridge, “Understandable. He is pretty distracting.” He handed Rey the bottle then glanced towards the backyard, “We could go outside. Give him some more room to roll around.” Since BB-8 had shown up, Poe would let him out in the yard for a while so long as his neighbors weren’t around because he still wasn’t entirely sure how he was going to explain the droid to anyone who saw him.
Rey spent so much of her time working on machines that an actual droid being around was positively blowing her mind. She wanted to build her own. Build a whole bunch of them, little metal friends she could talk to whenever she wanted and they probably wouldn’t even judge!
“Yes, lets give the little bugger some exercise!”
Everything was exciting about this and Rey was giving in to her excitability.
