The OC.
Bikinis, meat heads, celebrities, the rich. Zombies, giant coin blocks, Dreams that came true. For someone who had yet to Dream and was obsessed with the paranormal, living in Orange County was like being surrounded by unspoken giants from another dimension. Outside of the county, it was all virtually unknown except for an article in a tabloid or a tape sent into a Caught On Tape show on The Travel Channel.
Enter into one of Orange County's funky little downtown shops, Nathaniel. Nathaniel was a tall, skinny, unassuming boy with specs too big for his face, hair askew, a tailored suit (thank you very much), and well polished shoes. No one looked up from their readings and that was how Nathaniel liked it. He inhaled the musty odor of the shop that smelt to him like decades of decay and ancient leather. To his left was something that might have been a goat fetus preserved in a jar, along with a set of old human teeth. To his right was a spell book from a Shaman in the East Andes, dating back to the 1700's.
None of this interested him today. Instead, he was looking for other types of books. Further in the shop was the book shelves, full of old tomes and a few new publications, one of which was his own: Questions and Answers From Point Fermin's Keeper. In it, one could find transcripts of the EVP's Nathaniel had taken in the lighthouse and the accompanying Victorian home where the lighthouse keeper's ghost still haunted. Along with the transcripts were Nathaniel's notes, some of them factual, some of them psychological.
This wasn't what Nathaniel was searching for either. He picked up the latest hot paper from the stand and began to thumb through, an idea he'd picked up from Men in Black. Surprisingly, he'd been able to find plenty of cases this way.
