Amycus’ business was finally getting back to normal with his regular assistant back at her desk. She was going to handle the calls and unless it was Regulus related direct his clients to one of the junior associates at the firm if they could handle it or take a message if it wasn’t urgent but still needed his attention. Unless there were any emergencies he had an hour to just sit and enjoy lunch with his friend, catch up on what had been going on with her. See if there was anything he could do to help with the Outreach or in general. Get the information directly from the person who actually knew, whether than what they’d heard through other people talking.

He saw Freya come in and he smiled as he stood up, pulling out her chair as she reached the table and leaning in to kiss her cheek lightly in greeting.

***

Freya was….well she wasn’t exactly surprised by the way the Supreme Court ruling had gone but it was still a blow. And given her work at the UN? Well, it had an impact. Thank goodness for it also being National Chocolate Cake Day (and Holocaust Remembrance Day because of course it was) so a lot of people had already brought in different types of chocolate from stress baking just because of the impending ruling.

Either way, she was happy to get out for an hour and just decompress. Or decompress as much as she ever did. She would deal with the chaos once she was back at the office. Chaos, it seemed, was her constant work state no matter what. Good thing she worked well under pressure.

Smiling as she saw Amycus, she nodded in greeting and once that was done, took her seat.

“So, how have you been?”

***

Amycus pushed her chair into the table before taking his own again. “For once - everything’s good for me. No one is destroying their lives in a way that I have to fix. The girls aren’t fighting. Alecto and I are close again. Regulus is doing brilliant in his writing. And then I got the google alert on my phone. Which leaves me the question - how are you doing love? What can I do to help?”

***

Even if her life was always in chaos, Freya did love hearing when her friends were doing well. And really, her personal life was (mostly) fine. Mostly in that she was going to have to wait anxiously until Klaus eventually started Dreaming if she failed in finding a way to keep that from starting. Knowing the future of her siblings - three of which would die in the Dreams - was a burden all of itself.

“Processing. Busy. You know me. The things that would actually help in these things? Aren’t really things in any of our control.”

Such was the nature of NGO and government work.

***

“I do know you which is why I’m making this offer to you not to your department. And I guess I’m also making it to Percy - if there is anything you think of that I can do, even if it’s just rounding up donations or giving money let me know. And now that we have the work talk out of the way - how are things with you and Evie? The girls are still begging to see you both again. Apparently without their dads around so you made a brilliant impression. Which makes me happy because I’d much rather they look up to people I know than celebrities that I don’t.” Amycus told her. Leaving out that there were some celebrities he did know that he wouldn’t want his girls looking up to.

***

“Oh, you were talking about Pimpernel Outreach, not the UN. Got it.” Shaking her head some, Freya took a sip of water as she mulled over the question. “Well on that front, donations are always appreciated.” The front end of it all at anyway. There of course were the other activities that took place - things they did their best to keep from those who put money into the organization on the off-chance they got caught. But there were things that were needed for those activities as well. “But things with Evie are going well. It was our two year anniversary two weeks ago.”

She couldn’t stop the smile that came when talking about her girlfriend. Even with all the shit going on in the world that impacted their lives because of their work and, not to mention Dreams and the related drama…. Well, things were going strong.

“But I’m glad to hear that. I’ll see what we can do to make that happen then.”

***

“For you I mean both. I have disposable income thanks to my parents and well if I can’t use it to help people what’s the point of having it? And with you I know at least it’s all going to get where it’s actually needed. I readily admit that I am jaded and cynical about certain things.” Amycus said with a small laugh at himself.

“And I promise this time that I’ll make sure to put Apollo up so that he doesn’t try to steal your drink. And since I invited - lunch is on me. Order whatever you’d like.”

***

Freya nodded some.

“Fair enough. With the UN it just depends on which specific organization and donating to them. But I do know what you mean.” She may have been born into an affluent family with government ties but she stood against basically everything her father voted for and well, she was going to use her privilege to help others.

“Always appreciated. And well, who turns down free food?”

***

"So after lunch you give me the list for both and I'll get the checks where they need to go." Amycus said, closing off work talk with a shrug.

"Have you met my sister's friend Lily?" He asked in response to her question. Lily was his friend as well but she and Alecto had always been just a little closer.

***

“Sounds like a plan.”

Because really, sometimes that was just the easiest way to go about matters like this. As for the question about if she knew Alecto’s friend?

“Can’t say that I do.”

***

"The girl has more pride than sense at times." Amycus said, affection tinging the comment to make it less harsh. "She's brilliant but...proud and lets it get in the way of people helping her at times."

***

“Sounds like a lot of people I know.”

More pride than sense? That could basically sum up Freya’s entire family. Not asking for help because of said pride? Again, summed up her entire family. Freya included even if she was trying to be better. Evie had her moments as well.

***

“Same actually. And I’m including myself in that before anyone feels the need to remind me of my own flaw there.” Amycus said with a smile as he handed their server after he ordered. “But I’m working on it.” Especially since he’d noticed Madison struggling with her laces and refusing help and citing him as the example of just pushing through without help no matter how hard something was. Annoying little mirrors his daughters were at times. “Lily’s just the first one that comes to mind somedays.”

***

“That’s all any of us can really do. Acknowledge it and work on it.” How much progress was ever made on that matter? Well that was a different situation entirely. But at least there were attempts and the like. “But fair enough.”

***

Amycus raised his water glass towards her with a wry smile and offered up a toast to her. “To working on my flaws.” He sipped from his glass and then set it down. “Is everything okay Freya? You seem...more stressed than I expected.” Tact wasn’t something he used often.

***

Raising her own glass of water, Freya returned the wry smile before taking her own drink of water before setting the glass down. The question caught her off guard though she supposed it was fair enough. Even with the fact she hadn’t needed to travel for work since the whole working herself to near death back in November, well...there was still a lot going on that she could never truly relax for any extended period of time.

“Just work. And Klaus being on the network now and wanting to find a way to keep him from dreaming.”

You know. The usual.

***

“If we can figure that out maybe we can use it to protect Alecto from the Dreams too.” Amycus said quietly. “She...I’ve told you what I’m like there. Alecto comes right along that same path and I’m too much of a big brother to want that in her head if I can avoid it.” He said quietly.

***

“Well I obviously understand that desire. Knowing what our younger siblings are to face and no way to stop it? Not something I’m good with.”

True, Freya never really went into what the future held for her brothers - how three of the ones on the network would die - but Amycus knew enough about her own Dreams and whatever her brothers might post on the network to know the general idea that there was a lot of pain and suffering and drama on the horizon in them.

“So yeah, if we can find a way to keep them from even starting the Dreams in the first place? That would be ideal.”

She couldn’t stop Elijah, Finn, or Kol from Dreaming as they already had started, but there was still a chance for Klaus. And Rebekah and Henrik but they weren’t on the network which meant focusing on Klaus alone in that effort unless the two youngest of the Mikaelsons also showed up.

***

Amycus had never pushed for the details about what Freya dreamed. She shared what she wanted to and he was able to put it together from that that it was bad. “And when the two of us put our heads together - there’s little we can’t figure out. So to our next project?” He asked, head half tilted.

***

Bad was an understatement, but Freya was used to that.

“Exactly. To our next project.”
