Who: Armand St. Just and Freya Mikaelson
What: Brief catching up
When: Recently
Where: Pimpernel Outreach
Warnings: Low
Status: Log | Complete
Splitting up her time between the UN and Pimpernel Outreach was exhausting but it was Freya and well, if she wasn’t being pulled in multiple directions then she would probably wonder what was wrong with her. Still, she at least had managed to mostly remain in the general area for an extended period of time as opposed to constantly travelling so she couldn’t complain too much.
Not about that at any rate. The work she had to do and the hurdles in place that made her want to melt the brains of the entire administration? That was a different matter entirely. Either way, it was (currently) easier to get in touch with her and she was going to take advantage of it for as long as possible.
Currently she was in her office at Pimpernel Outreach looking over current expenditures and the like. Well not exactly. Instead she was looking over things for the activities that couldn’t be tied directly to the non-profit, the disappearing of people and setting up new identities for them to escape abuse where the law failed, to avoid deportation. Rubbing her temples, the witch sighed in frustration.
“Tea, I need tea…”
Armand had decided that this year, as one of his resolutions, he would try and bring some brightness to people’s lives. Especially if they had helped them. He could see Freya was looking a little stressed and, having been the gofer a few times in the past, snuck out of Pimpernel and got her a cup of her coffee and a cup of her favorite tea. When he spotted a sidewalk florist nearby, he picked up a bouquet of flowers as well for her and his sister and the front office of Pimpernel Outreach. It was kind of a last-minute gesture, but he had an actual reason to give flowers to Freya.
He usually went above and beyond for his school work and she had given him some important information to use in a mock trial which had impressed his advisors. He’d been meaning to thank her for a while but school had gotten harder since he was almost to his last year of law school. So today would be his chance to do something nice for her.
He took the first bouquet to the receptionist, who smiled and thanked him profusely. Then he looked for his sister but couldn’t find her, so he got something to put them in and set them in Percy’s office, asking Percy to remind him to pick them up before he left for the day. And now, Freya’s turn. He took the flowers and the two drinks and knocked on her door. “You looked like you needed liquid relief,” he said, keeping the flowers out of view.
Hearing someone at her door, Freya blinked as she looked up. Now, she liked Armand, he was earnest and well meaning with a typically good head on his shoulders. But she also had six younger siblings - all of whom had different personalities and while surprise tea wasn’t uncommon? She was also used to niceness in the form of needing something so the flowers were suspicious.
“Well, I never turn down a cup of tea…..thank you. Now, what sort of trouble have you gotten yourself into?”
What? It was a typical older sister response. And while Freya was many a thing, a mind reader was not one of them. Which meant she was going to ask what was going on. Best to just get it out of the way after all.
“No trouble, for a change,” he replied with a grin. “Just wanted to brighten your day and saw the flowers. Well...and also to thank you for the data you gave me. The mock trial went well and my advisor was impressed with the lengths I went to to get current data.”
He moved into her office more and set down the tea and coffee in front of her. “One of those is coffee. You didn’t exactly look like you needed a caffeine fix but I wasn’t sure so I figured I’d get both.” He wasn’t sure if she wanted him to stay or if she was busy so he hovered closer to the door. “Stressful day?”
“Good.” After all, Marguerite was his older sister, not Freya. But she still had that general reaction because, well, six younger siblings. How could she not? “But that’s very sweet of you.” The whole world could use some brightening up if someone were to ask the witch. Not that they did, and not that she had to work within constraints to keep from crossing lines to achieve her main objective. “I’m glad that the data helped you.”
As for the tea and coffee, she nodded some.
“Tea’s fine for now,” Coffee was usually more when she was running on fumes and pushing herself to the limit. Despite her trips to LA and the southern border, she hadn’t had to travel much and wasn’t at that point presently. As for stressful day?
“When isn’t it a stressful day?” It wasn’t like Pimpernel Outreach was her only job, things with the UN were ... complicated and Supreme Court rulings just made it all the worse. Add in everything they did here. Well, stress was essentially Freya’s default.
“Is there anything I can help with?” he asked. He wasn’t entirely sure about everything Freya did outside of Pimpernel Outreach, but if he could at least help with stuff associated with the outreach center he’d make the offer. He was between projects to work on at the moment, so there was that, but generally, he was trying to be helpful where he could be.
He also wanted to thank her for the help she had given curing him all that time ago when he’d raged out for some random reason. He knew it was typical Orange County weirdness, but he’d not even been sure if she’d been thanked by more than Marguerite, who had been caught in the middle of it. He ran a hand through his hair and then spoke. “Did I ever get around to thanking you when I...I guess Hulked out would be the term?”
“Well unless you’re a numbers type of person…” Which was what she usually would go to Elijah with, he was the hedge fund manager after all and had helped them get started. Which meant he knew their general expenses. But she kept the less legal activities from him for that very reason as well. “I’m just looking at some expenditure reports so it’s fine.”
In theory. But there weren’t many things that required law help at the moment. Everything was running smoothly from an operational standpoint. It was just the general nature of life and red tape issues that caused the headaches.
“Hmm?” It actually took Freya a moment to place the incident Armand was asking about which made sense in some way given what had happened after between Elijah having to come and lend her strength for a barrier spell that still caused her to pass out, then going to the hospital that same day because she had worked herself near death and then the forced bed rest followed by holidays…. A lot of it was a blur.
“Maybe? Probably?”
Armand nodded. It wasn’t anything he could help with, but it was still important. He should leave her be sooner rather than later if he couldn’t do anything more than bring her tea and coffee. Let her work in peace, at least.
“I probably didn’t, just because I’ve been busy with stuff, but thanks. I didn’t mean to make Marguerite’s opening day any worse.” He ducked his head down for a moment. Not his fault, it was the OC weirdness at play, but still. He should thank the people, or in this case person, who helped.
“Yeah, of course. It’s what I do.” And that really was the way that Freya looked at things. Without the constant barrage of family drama and enemies that needed to be dealt with like in the Dreams, Freya instead found herself helping people not related to her. And had been doing so since she could remember. So for her? It really wasn’t that big a deal even if she had pushed herself too far that time. But that had less to do with healing Armand himself and everything leading up to that day.
He could see she needed to get back to work so he nodded and gave her a grin. “Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks and drop off the stuff. Hope your day doesn’t get too much more stressful.” He paused then. “Is there anything else you need that I can get for you?” He wanted to be helpful since he was between projects at the moment, but he also understood if Freya wouldn’t want him underfoot.
When didn’t Freya need to get back to work? But she nodded some, “Well, you’re welcome and thank you for the tea and flowers.” No need to talk about the way her day could get more stressful. It always could get more stressful, she knew that was the way it always was. “No, I’m good. But thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” he said with a nod. “If you need a gofer at any point for more tea, let me know. I’m between projects so I don’t mind.” With that, he turned and left, heading back to his own workstation. Overall it had gone well, finally thanking her. Hopefully it brightened her day at least a little.
