She hadn’t chosen the bar for its charm or its status. She had chosen it for its honesty. There were times, like tonight, when she needed an escape from the lies, the pretending. Times when she was tired of rich people. Not that she had ever been particularly fond of engaging with them, but on occasion, it was necessary.
More importantly, she had needed an escape from Charlie. She had run out of patience to deal with his constant demand of her time, as much as she may have enjoyed it. Without conscious thought, her fingers find a fresh bruise, hidden by her sleeve. She pressed down sharply until it ached, before returning her hands to her beer.
Making her way to a table tucked into the corner of the room, she sat, idly watching the people.
