The last few months had been tough for Felix and Eliot, not relationship-wise exactly, but with the way Eliot had been spiraling as a result of his dreams, Felix had spent much of the last few months worrying about his excessive drug and alcohol use along with his lack of sleep. Luckily, Eliot had a great friend in Margo and she had staged an intervention between herself and Eliot and ever since things had started to get better so Felix was looking forward to starting the new year on a positive note.
Which was what they were doing tonight. One of the perks of being a party planner was that Felix tended to get invited to some of the parties that they planned, which was where Felix and Eliot found themselves tonight. It was one of Felix’s best and most high profile clients so it was guaranteed that they would have a good time tonight.

Eliot and Felix managed to work it out so that they could spend New Years Eve together. Technically Felix was working the party but everything was going smoothly from where he stood, soda in hand because he was cutting back on alcohol a lot compared to his recent consumption but he'd grab something stronger closer to midnight in case of any toasts. He smiled at Felix as he reached for his hand to pull him closer and steal a kiss. "You set the bar for my turn to plan next year and you know it." He teased.
***
Felix laughed and took a sip of his drink, “Good thing you have a whole year to work it out then.” Of course it would depend on which of Eliot’s clients came to him for New Year’s Eve next year, but Felix knew that whoever it was, Eliot would do a great job on their party, “So, who do you think is having more fun though? Us or Margo and Roman?” Roman’s company was having their own party, which was where they had gone for the night, but there were plans to meet up with the other couple after midnight.
***
Eliot pretended to think for a moment before answering that question. “I think...I’m having more fun at least because I just get to hang out with you and not deal with anything work related. Roman and Margo are having to talk to clients. And I’ve met some of his company’s clients...they’re boring as hell.” He said with a small smirk. “Where’s your vote landing? Us or them?”
***
“That makes sense. They’re mostly scientists or something, right?” Roman may have been a friend, but Felix didn’t exactly know what Godfrey Industries did besides medical related things, but he didn’t know anything specific. “So, I’d say we’re having more fun too. Margo is probably just having fun showing off her outfit.” She’d texted them a picture of the Fillory outfit she’d chosen to wear to the party and as usual she looked fantastic, “When are you going to start getting outfits from Fillory by the way? I’m dying to see what a king wears in Fillory.” He knew that Eliot was behind Margo in the dreams, but he also knew that Eliot became the High King of Fillory beside Margo’s High Queen.

“I think so. To be honest when he talks about what they do at his company I tend to find myself tuning out because it just all goes right over my head.” Eliot confessed. “Bambi does love to show off how good she looks at parties it’s true.” He laughed at that question . “Tell me the truth - you just want to see my crown don’t you?” He teased before getting serious. “I think that something is taking pity on me and giving me time to get used to actually sleeping again before throwing me into Fillory because that has to be the next dream.”
***
Felix laughed and took a sip of his drink, “It’s all very bloody technical and sciency. Way over our heads.” He was well aware of how much Margo enjoyed showing off how good she looked when she was going out, considering the three of them had lived together for some time until Margo had moved out recently.
In response to Eliot’s question, Felix nodded, “You’re bloody right I do. Afterall, I’ve never slept with royalty before.” He gave Eliot a cheeky smirk and waggled his eyebrows, “If that’s the case than that’s nice of them. Considering the things Margo has said about Fillory, that’s probably for the best.”
***
“Well if you ask me nicely maybe I’ll let you try it on…” Eliot said, taking another drink of his soda. “But you have to promise to give it back.” He frowned slightly. “It’s not just Fillory. It’s the fact that dream!Eliot is a damn idiot about certain things. Especially his feelings for Quentin. I’d rather not have to deal with that right now. I don’t have feelings for him here but - it’s frustrating to watch all the same.”
***
“Don’t worry, I wouldn’t be able to keep your crown from you,” Felix smirked and took a sip of his drink as he listened to Eliot, “And I thought my dream life was bloody complicated.” Honestly, Felix didn’t know whose dreams were crazier; Eliot dreamt about magic and a magic land while Felix’s dreams were filled with clones and shady companies. “I don’t blame you though, for not wanting to deal with those dreams yet.”
***
“Well I do know your weaknesses and how to exploit them…” Eliot teased as he leaned closer to him. “It’s why we work darling. We compliment each other’s crazy dream lives.” He got serious after a moment though. “I can’t expect to avoid them forever though and I know it. And I just...can’t let myself use those old crutches right?” He asked quietly, a little bit of his insecurity showing in the moment that was just them standing there. He didn’t let his walls down around most people but with Felix it was always harder to keep them up.
***
Felix was glad that Eliot was able to let his walls down around him, because it showed that he trusted him, “Whatever happens, I’m here for you.” He reached up and cupped Eliot’s jaw, his thumb brushing the other man’s cheek as he moved a little closer, “And Margo is here for you and we both know she’s a force to be reckoned with when it comes to you.” He smirked and leaned in to press a kiss to Eliot’s lips.
***
Eliot kissed him back, letting his forehead rest against Felix’ as the kiss ended. “A terrifying force to be reckoned with.” He agreed with a smile. “I’d be lost without you. You know that. And whatever happens - I’m here for you.” That was a promise he could easily keep. “I love you Felix.” Three words he hadn’t used a lot in his life before meeting his boyfriend with anyone other than his best friend.
