Snow falling in southern California was novel enough to draw attention from all over, not just the local news. The fact that it turned into a substantial snow event drew even more attention. Only the hardcore regulars made an appearance in the bars and nightclubs. Between the lack of business and the snow it wasn’t worth staying open. Staff got sent home. Lights were turned out, and doors were locked for the night. Everyone went home. Lucifer, strangely, slept alone. He felt privacy was the rule of the night. He couldn’t tell you why. He just accepted it and went for a solitary swim on his extra large bed. The next morning he learned why he’d had that feeling.
Word had passed through the phone tree. Lux would remain closed until further notice. Employees would all receive their full pay. The boss would be in contact. That was it. No other explanation was offered nor supplied when requested. Hell, no one could even get the boss on the phone. But was anyone complaining? Nope. They were getting paid very well.
Meanwhile, the snow had come and gone. Tonight meteors were falling, leaving bright trails across the skies over L.A. Lucifer stood on the roof of the building that contained his nightclub and his penthouse. He watched the cosmic performance with a feeling of dismissal. A small huff, a wry smirk and a shake of his head made his thoughts on the matter clear. Lucifer felt someone was showing off. Bastard. Whether that was true or not, he didn’t care. A couple of other things were on his mind. His thoughts filled he took a step forward from the ledge.
People looked to the sky and made wishes on the falling stars. However, there was one body in the sky that wasn’t falling. Far from it, actually. However, anyone who spent a wish on the moving object wasted it. And, while the meteors were silent, anyone who was paying close attention, should the other foreign object get close enough, they would hear the sound of wings.
