Who: Jace Herondale and Simon Lewis
When: Backdated: Mid September
Where: Simon’s van/Nine’s apartment
What: Going to get Jace’s things
Rating/Warnings: Low
Status: Complete
Jace knew he’d put it off as long as he could. Nine wouldn’t be out of the area forever and even though they’d phrased it as taking a break at first and then eventually broke up and it hadn’t been a huge messy thing - Jace really didn’t want to run into the dark haired man while he was picking up the things he’d left there. He just wanted to get in, pick them up, leave his key and put the bike in back and then head back to the Institute. Where he would probably have to actually tell Izzy that he was single again. Somehow that was higher on his list of things he dreaded in this fallout then having to tell his parents. Probably the fact Izzy was in California and could actually act on whatever instincts kicked in contributed to that.
He checked to make sure he had his keys as he headed for the door to meet his friend. “Hey. Thanks for going with me over there man. I promise I’ll be as quick as I can about it. We won’t even have to figure out how to get the pole. I’m going to leave it there.”

While Jace hadn’t really talked too much about his breakup with Nine, Simon knew what he must be going through. When Izzy had decided to go to school in New York they had decided that it would be better if they took a break so that Izzy could focus on her schoolwork and not have to worry about their relationship. In Jace’s case, Simon didn’t know the exact reason they had decided to split, but he likely felt the same way that Simon had when Izzy had first left so of course Simon was going to be there for his friend and taking him to get his stuff was just one way he was going to do that.
“It’s no problem,” Simon said as he unlocked the van and got into the front seat, “So how much stuff do you have over there?” Not that it really mattered since the back of the van was empty so there was plenty of space for whatever Jace needed to pick up plus his bike.

“The bike is the biggest thing. I’ve got a couple drawers of clothes and a few things in the closet. No furniture to worry about so that’s something in our favor right?” Jace said as he climbed in and leaned his head back. “I think he took all his things when he stayed here the last time so that’s one thing we don’t have to worry about.” Maybe he should have paid more attention that morning instead of being in a rush to get dressed and to the gym before his classes started. Then he could have figured out another way to get his stuff that didn’t involve them having to almost sneak in while the dark haired man was away.
“And some of my workout stuff is in his living room.” He wasn’t going to go into details about exactly why the clothes were in the living room.
***
And Simon didn’t need the details. He wasn’t naive and knew what couples got up to when they were alone so he simply continued driving, “It is good that there’s nothing too heavy since I no longer possess enhanced strength.” That was probably the one thing Simon really missed about being a vampire, but considering the route his dreams were going, it was probable that at some point soon he would possess the enhanced abilities of a Shadowhunter.

“And I didn’t do the runes for me to have more.” Jace said looking out the windshield. “At least Sandor isn’t texting me anymore to ask if I’ve heard from Nine lately.” He said quietly. He liked Nine’s dad, a lot actually, but it had been a little awkward having to tell him no. That he hadn’t and had eventually just stopped texting Nine because he’d been frustrated by the lack of response.

“So no one knows where he went?” All Simon knew was what Jace had told him about their breakup and until now Jace hadn’t mentioned where the other man had actually gone. “So how do you know he’s not home?” As he asked the question Nine’s building came into view and Simon continued driving until he pulled into the parking lot and turned off the van. “You ready for this?”
***
Jace took a deep breath as they turned into the parking lot. "He was going to a conference for his career. And then on a motivational speaking tour for it. We texted for awhile and then he just quit answering. And quit answering Sandor too."
"I called his dad this morning to see if he'd heard anything and he hasn't. And the security here says nobody's been in but the cleaning staff." That was a weird thing that he'd gotten so used to now that he thought about it. "Ready as I'm gonna be. Put it off long enough. Time to start figuring out what's next."
***
“Huh. Don’t get mad at me or anything, but it kind of sounds like he’s ghosting everyone.” Simon shrugged as he turned off the van and glanced over at Jace, “Maybe it’s a sign that you need to move on.” Of course going to get all of his stuff was the first step in moving on, so did Simon really need to tell Jace something it seemed that he already knew and was taking steps to do? “Lets go. After we get this done we can go get something to eat.”
***
Jace looked at his friend curiously. “Why would I get mad at you over that?” He asked with one brow arched. “You aren’t the one who’s doing it.” He said trying to sound more casual than he really felt about it all. “Yeah. Probably. Step one though right? Getting my stuff and leaving the key here.”
“Something to eat sounds good. After this. I’ll let you pick.”
***
Simon shrugged, “Some people get touchy about their relationships. They don’t like to hear something bad about their exes even after they’ve broken up.” Simon and Jace might have been friends, but there were still some things that people didn’t want to hear even from their friends. “Yeah, those are definitely the first steps to moving on.” Moving on from Izzy of course had been a little harder for Simon since he had still been living in the Institute, but now that was a moot point since Isabelle was back.
“I get to choose? Sounds good to me.” Ever since becoming human again Simon had been revisiting all the places he hadn’t been able to eat at while he’d been a vampire, “Lets get this show on the road then.”

"It's not like you're telling me anything I haven't been telling myself. Or that other people haven't. It's all good." Jace said, giving a little ghost of a smile to his friend. "Let's get the bike in first and then I'll meet you upstairs. Sound like a plan?"
***
Simon nodded, “Sounds like a plan to me,” He would let Jace take the lead since he knew where everything that they had come for was. Once the bike was in the back of Simon’s van, Simon stayed to secure it while Jace went upstairs to gather his things.
