Who: Magnus Bane & Alec Lightwood
When: Backdated: Thursday, October 31st. Early Afternoon
Where: Their Loft
What: Alec comes home early to surprise his husband
Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly
Status: Complete

The last month and a half had been a tough one for Magnus. Alec had been in New York, helping Robert with something and then an opportunity had arisen where they could potentially open a second location for Pandemonium in New York, so Alec had ended up staying a little longer.

Of course they had seen each other during this time, Magnus could create portals at the snap of a finger after all, but he had grown extremely accustomed to seeing Alec every day so only seeing him for a few days at a time had been tough.

Now though, Alec’s business with his father was finished and they could handle most of the second club stuff from California and portal to New York if needed so Alec was coming home. However, he had decided to come home the Mundane way and fly, which boggled Magnus’ mind since he could have been home already instead of spending six hours in the air. Either way, Magnus had agreed to let Alec decide on his own way home and would be picking him up from the airport that evening so at the moment Magnus was sleeping in, Chairman Meow curled up beside him in the side of the bed that was Alec’s.

The situation wasn’t ideal but Alec was the most responsible Lightwood and he could afford to help his father out. However, he shared similar feelings to his husband when it came to them being apart. It was strange to sleep in a different bed, altogether, on top of missing his husband’s presence as well as the cat’s.

While it would have been much easier to be portaled home, Robert had come up with the idea of surprising Magnus by not only flying home but to also arrive earlier than expected. It was a solid plan and Robert paid for Alec’s first class ticket, as well as the taxi to pick him up from the airport.

Now, Alec was outside the door and even though he had his key, he preferred to make Magnus open the door. So, the Shadowhunter began to knock, planning only to stop when his husband let him in.

Once the knocking began it took a few moments for it to register to Magnus and once he realized what it was, he frowned, eyes still closed. Their apartment was above the club which meant that there were only a few people who had access to the entrance to their stairs and any of those people would also have a key for the upstairs door. So who was so rudely interrupting his sleep?

Opening his eyes, finally, Magnus groaned as he glanced over at the Chairman who appeared to be able to sleep through the knocking just fine. Getting to his feet, Magnus grabbed for the ornate, blue, silk bathrobe beside the bed and pulled it on over his bare chest and black, silk pajama pants. His normally well styled black hair was a mess, but at the moment he didn’t care what he looked like and only wanted the knocking to stop. He was tempted to use his magic on whoever was outside the door, but not knowing who it was meant that he had to refrain.

“I’m coming!” He called as he left the bedroom and made his way across the living room to the door of their apartment, “I don’t know how you even made it up here in order to bang on my door at such an early hour. I’m beginning to wonder if this would be considered breaking and…” The final word was forgotten as Magnus pulled the door open to see his husband standing on the other side, “Alexander...what?”

Alec was nothing short of amused as he heard the warlock yelling. It was only made better when he was cut short after opening the door and seeing who the offending party was.

Without missing a beat, he crossed his arms and replied, “First off...you’d better not be coming without me. Secondly, it’s almost noon...and lastly, surprise!” He chuckled before entering the apartment and setting down his luggage and pulling Magnus to him for a kiss. “You’re so cute when you are grumpy.”

To say that Magnus was surprised was an understatement. While he was extremely happy to see his husband, he almost couldn’t believe that Alec had been able to pull off this surprise. There was so much Magnus wanted to say to Alec in that moment, but as the other man’s lips met his there was nothing that he wanted to do more than this right here. As he kissed Alec back, his arms reached up to wrap around his neck, pulling him in closer. He knew that he probably had morning breath, but Alec had started this.

After a few moments, Magnus finally broke the kiss, quirking a brow at the Shadowhunter, “How long have you been planning this?” He wondered if Isabelle, Jace or Simon knew about Alec’s plan or if he had kept it from them as well.

“Believe it or not, it wasn’t my plan...and you don’t need to worry your pretty head about it.” He ruffled Magnus’ already messy hair. “Now, how about you go wake up and make yourself more handsome than you already are….and I will make food cause I am starving.”

“Look at you, you surprise me once and you suddenly think you can boss me around,” Magnus smirked as he leaned in and kissed Alec again, reaching down to give his ass a light squeeze before pulling away, “But I’ll do as you say.” He winked then headed back to the bedroom as Chairman Meow came sauntering out to greet Alec with a meow.

Once in the bedroom, Magnus went to his side of the closet to figure out what to wear. He could have simply used his magic to get dressed, it would have taken less time, but when it came to clothes, he enjoyed physically picking them out; his hair and makeup however, he used magic for those simply so that he didn’t waste more time than he needed to and could rejoin Alec sooner. “Am I handsome enough for you now?”

Alec left his luggage behind and after watching Magnus head to the bedroom, he went to the kitchen to get breakfast going.

It wasn’t long before the cat found him and he gave him some attention. It was nice to be back home, that was for sure. Turning to look at his husband, he smiled. “I thought you were perfect when you answered the door.”

“Well now you’re just confusing me, because you told me to make myself more handsome,” Magnus smirked as he came up behind Alec and wrapped his arms around his waist. Magnus was shorter than Alec so his chin rested on his husband’s shoulder as he watched him cook, “I’ve missed mornings like this.” They might have spent a few mornings together over the last month and a half, when Magnus had portaled to New York on weekends, but it simply hadn’t been the same thing.

The Shadowhunter rolled his eyes. “I do know that your morning look isn’t not how you’d like to be remembered...I know your standards.” Still, he couldn’t help but enjoy the moment. It was certainly better than when they had been apart.

“I’ve missed this, too…” he answered.

“That’s very true. Not very many people have gotten to see me in that state.” Magnus pressed a kiss to Alec’s cheek then moved away to get plates and start the coffee maker, “So, did you have any plans for your first day back or did you simply want to lounge around until tonight?” Since it was Halloween there was going to be a party at Pandemonium that evening, but Magnus had all the preparations pretty much handled and anything that he didn’t could simply be taken care of with magic when the time came.

“And that’s why I snap photos...just in case I need to blackmail you,” Alec teased, as Magnus moved away. “Well, it is the end of the month and I need to see if inventory has been done…” Of course, he was lying cause he just wanted to relax. “But I could be talked into taking the day off.”

Magnus let out a faux gasp as he finished setting the table, “Blackmail me? What on earth would you ever need to blackmail me for?” He knew Alec was teasing of course, “I suppose it’s a good thing then that I have pictures that I could counter blackmail you with.” He smirked and moved to begin making their coffee, “It’s also a good thing then that I’m good at convincing you to do things.”

“You weren’t able to convince me to come home sooner,” Alec shot back, chuckling. It wasn’t even in their control, and Alec wish he had been back sooner. “Can we just stay in?”

“Trust me, if that had been in my power, I would have done it right away,” Magnus knew that getting Alec home sooner hadn’t been in his hands, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t wish it had been.

Once he finished making their coffee, he brought both mugs, the ones with their first initials, over to Alec and held the A one out to him, “Staying in sounds like a fantastic idea.”

Alec gladly took the mug and took a sip. “I trust that the Chairman has been keeping my side of the bed warm.” He chuckled and focused on finishing the cooking. “So, breakfast first...then, I should unpack...then, relaxing until the festivities...I also need to figure out a costume…”

“You know that I can just use magic to help you unpack quicker,” Magnus smirked over the rim of his mug before taking a sip, “And yes, he has been doing a good job of it.” Chairman Meow had missed Alec just as much as Magnus had if his nightly search of the other man had anything to say about it. “Another thing my magic can help with once you decide on something.”

Alec missed Magnus trying to use magic as a solution to most things. However, he really just wanted to spend as much time as possible with his husband. He let out a small sigh, “Fine...I’ll let you magic things...this time…you’re lucky I like you.”
