Who: Simon Lewis & Isabelle Lightwood When: Backdated: Mid August Where: The Beach What: A Date on the Beach Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Ever since Isabelle had moved back to Orange County, Simon had been wondering exactly where they stood. Of course they were still friends, but since they hadn’t ended their relationship on bad terms it was fairly obvious that there were still feelings there. Even so, Simon hadn’t wanted Izzy to feel obligated to get back together or anything and besides, Simon had wanted to give her time to settle back in and spend time with her family before he made any sort of moves.
This most recent dream though had finally prompted him to make the move to ask her out. In the dreams Simon was still suffering from his magical memory loss and had decided to attend Shadowhunter Academy as a potential way to get his memories back and then Isabelle had shown up and more or less threatened the other girls to leave him alone because they were together, but Simon, knowing he didn’t remember the things she did, couldn’t be the person she knew him as at that moment.
In the waking world, Simon wanted what they’d had before Isabelle moved and if that dream hadn’t been a sign that now was the right time, he didn’t know what was. So once she’d said yes when he asked her out they’d decided on something simple for their second first date, which was a trip to the beach.
Izzy had been on the verge of asking him out, but she didn’t want to push him into thinking he had to go out with her! Se was aggressive, she knew this and she was waiting for the time to be right or for him to ask her out. She wasn’t a total control freak, but Izzy did like to have a handle on things. She had been home for a few weeks now, spending a lot of time with Max before he went back to school and then decided she wanted to open a bakery, which she was almost close to doing. So when Simon asked her out, she instantly said yes!
She was dressed in a sundress, her hair pulled back in a loose ponytail as she had a bag slung over her shoulder, which had a beach towel, sunblock, a few more odds and ends. She had sunglasses over her eyes as she walked beside SImon. “This was a really great idea,” she told him with a smile.
Simon had his own bag as well as a cooler and he was carrying a beach umbrella as they walked along, looking for the perfect spot to set up for the afternoon, “I hoped you’d like it. I haven’t been to the beach yet this summer and I figured you probably hadn’t either,” It had actually been quite awhile since Simon had been to the beach; sure he could have gone at any time since he was a Daylighter and all, but going to the beach as a vampire had just seemed strange to him, “How about that spot?” He asked, gesturing towards an open spot of sand nearby.
“You are right, I haven’t,” she agreed with a bright smile as she looked at him, then nodded her head in agreement to the spot he picked. He was doing rather well on planning this date, she was impressed for second first date between them. “Perfect,” she informed him as she slid her sunglasses up to set down her bag and started to dig through her bag to get things set out while she hoped he put up the umbrella. “This is one of the things I miss most about being in New York.” she told him.
Simon was happy to hear that she was having a good time so far and couldn’t stop the grin that spread across his lips as he worked at putting up the umbrella. It tipped over the first time he tried, but eventually he got it at an angle and deep enough into the ground that it didn’t seem like it would fall over any time soon.
Once that was finished, he proceeded to lay out a blanket then his towel at one end of it. “Do you want something to drink? I brought water and soda.” Setting up a surprise picnic lunch had been a little difficult when they now lived together, but the Institute was big enough that Simon had had just enough time alone in the kitchen to get things sorted out without Izzy knowing anything.
She arched a brow at the basket, but smiled at the nice surprise, “Water,” she replied as she shifted to sit on the blanket, once seated she shift her hair ponytail over her shoulder, “When did you do this?” she asked in awe, Simon was always good at surprises. She leaned forward to look over what all he brought.
“Nice,” she looked over at him, smiling brightly, “you did well, Simon!”
Simon couldn’t stop smiling as he set everything out then handed Isabelle a bottle of water, “You have to leave the kitchen at some point,” He winked at her then sat back and proceeded to pull his shirt over his head; while he’d been a vampire tanning wasn’t exactly something he was able to do despite being a Daylighter so now was his chance to work on a tan. “Thanks. I’m glad you like it.”
She had been held up in the kitchen thinking up ideas and what she wanted her menu to be, so he had a point, she needed to get out more before her life got really crazy. She took her the bottle and opened taking a sip and sighed with contentment. She casually looked over at him, waggled her eyebrows at him,”Looking good, Simon.” She shifted to lean to kiss his cheek, she didn’t want to be too forward with him, “So tell me what all you’ve been up to minus being human again since I’ve been gone.”
As silly as it was, considering they had already been in a relationship once before, Simon felt his cheeks flush as Izzy kissed him and he had to clear his throat before replying to her question, “Um, well the guys and I have been spending most of the summer playing shows. We’re working on some new songs, but haven’t really got them ready to perform live yet.” Rock Solid Panda, the name they had finally decided to stick with, was doing surprisingly well over the last couple of months and he was looking forward to inviting Isabelle to their next show.
As he spoke, she leaned for the bag to dig out some sun tanning lotion ,”It’s good you guys are writing new songs,” she encouraged with a warm smile, “no longer going to be a part of a cover band?” she asked teasingly. Her eyes looked over at him, “remember me when you get famous, k?” she joked as she opened the bottle to get some lotion on her hands and started to cover her legs. “I can see it now, Rock Solid Panda, traveling the world, playing out stadiums!”
“You know for a fact that we’ve been writing our own music since before we moved out here.” Simon knew that Izzy was teasing him, but at the same time they did sing a few covers during their gigs, but the majority of their music was their own, “And of course I’ll remember you. You’re a very hard person to forget, Isabelle Lightwood.” It was true; Simon had never met someone like Isbaelle, both in and out of the dreams. “And if we do become big, you’ll always be on the VIP list, fyi.”
“I better be,” Izzy laughed back at him, “Don’t make me go on daytime television and tell all your secrets,” she would never do that. She winked at him, “I’m glad things are really looking up, for the both of us!” Finally in the same place at the same time, she was staying, he was human, not that it mattered anyways. “Life is good, huh?”
