Who: Max and Isobel
Where: Max's house
What: Talking about work.
When: Now.
Rating: Meduim.

Isobel had a busy week, she hadn't even spoken to Max after they did the text exchanged and she hadn't even spoken with Micheal, she made a mental note to text him tonight. As she got out of her car, she reached in to grab her bag and then another bag filled with food. With her hip, she closed the door and moved to his front door. With three sharp knocks, she stepped back as she waited for her brother to answer the door.

Between the dreams, her growing firm, she was going to offer him a job, not like she normally would with a condescending tone. She had the paperwork all filled out, an offer for him to do pro bono cases as well, along with new interns.

The thing about Isobel is that she didn't beat around the bush,"Work related?" she asked as she put up the wine and than moved back to her bag to pull out a folder that had a contract for Max to be a partner in her firm, if he took her deal.

"I'm legit asking, not to be nice," she told him as she moved over to him. "I've been doing some thinking and well..." she held out the folder, "I can't tell you the client I was working with, but the jest of it is family issues and I normally don't take cases like this, but it was on a whim." she told him, "to be helpful instead of on the other side. So I got to thinking if you come work at the firm, we could help more. I've slotted some funds for pro bono cases and with my firm resources, could have a better chance of winning than one normally would."

Moving to sit up on the counter away from the food of course, "You'll be on salary, we can work together, I will cut some of my shadier clients, some have to wait out of their contracts to end, but I will deal with them." She looked over at her twin, "you won't be working for me, we wil be partners."

“Yeah,” Max nodded. “Full docket and a bunch of research.” But her next course of conversation caught him off guard, Max blinking at her.

“You’re serious, aren’t you.” It was definitely a change from how they had been. But then the dreams had started and their relationship in the actual world had evolved. They actually...well liked each other might be a bit strong still but they were much closer.

“You’re changing the make-up of your clientele because you want to work with me?” It was kind of unexpected.

"You are going to make me regret this, aren't you?" she muttered as she went to pull out the wine, "I am," she said as she set the bottle out and than moved to get the opener, "I wouldn't have went through all of that," her head nodded at the folder, "if I wasn't. Like I said, I'm not being nice, I'm being practical and I need a change, don't you as well?"

Grabbing two glasses she answered "I'm not changing all of the clientele, I'm just willing to meet you halfway and to improve my business for better things than getting a drug lord off of trafficking charges and whatever sleazy landlord upped rent for more money." She looked at him as she open the bottle of wine.

"You want to do good in the world, I want to be and do better for the world," there was a popping sound from the bottle and she poured into their glasses, "why can't we work together. It will be challenging, but honestly," she put the bottle down, took her glass for a long sip, "I like a challenge."

“I’m not going to make you regret anything.” Yes, he had heard even the low muster.

Max took his glass, taking a sip as he leaned against the counter, studying his sister. He wasn’t entirely sure what to say to all of this. But Isobel made a good point, as she undoubtedly knew that she would. “I suppose it would be nice to be able to pick and choose my clients,” he allowed finally. “Not to have ones assigned to me by the city.” And having all of the resources of her firm at his disposal to help with pro bono cases was very tempting indeed.

“I want some time to read through the papers, obviously.” It was second nature being a lawyer. “But I’m not turning you down, Is. I just...I want to be sure I fully understand.”

"Fair enough," she told him with a nod of her head as she took a sip of her drink, "just don't make me wait," she told him with a smile, "so take a few days, get back with me, if you have any questions, ask me."

She moved to sit down while drinking her drink, "things are slowing down for now, but they will pick up more toward Christmas."

“I won’t take forever,” Max promised. “Give me a week. I’ll have you an answer before your business picks up, and time enough for me to give some notice before the holidays.” Because he would need to give two weeks notice to his current job.

Turning, he put the papers up somewhere safe before he started taking out all of the ingredients and putting together the meal, dicing, sautéing, mixing... “By the way, nice wine selection.”

"I do have good taste," she remarked as she took another sip and than sat it down on the table, "we should talk about Mom while we are alone. Have you decided on what you are going to get her for Christmas?"

She leaned back in the chair, "she's been hinting about some travel luggage she's like to me."

"I was considering a spa day," Max answered. "I thought she'd like the pampering. I mean, I'd get her a gift certificate, let her choose whatever treatments she liked the best. If I chose I'd inevitably get it wrong." That much was certain. Their mother had high standards even if she loved them both.

"Oh...." she nodded her head, "what about a spa weekend?" she asked him, "we could send her away for a few days, I'll look to see what is the hippest place right now and send her for the New Year, what do you think?

“I think that she would love it,” he nodded. Their mother did enjoy her luxuries. And with a spa weekend she would be pampered. “Maybe some place that offers a detox? She raved about that retreat in the mountains.”
