WHO: Blossom & Elsa
WHERE: Random Park
WHEN: {backdated} Early September
WHAT: Blossom is introduced to Elsa and her awesome powers.
WARNINGS: PG
STATUS: Complete
So far, Blossom was walking dogs three times a week. It was nice, it got her out and she liked having the form of company in the little furry friends. But she was aware that getting out for more than just dog walking was important.
Sheâd stopped by a cafe to get a cool drink, a fruity mix with blitzed ice in it, dripping cool water over her hands as she wandered. Sheâd consciously left her iPod at home, because the point was to attempt to talk to someone, not give the aura of âdonât bother meâ, which tended to be what people thought when folks wandered with air pods in.
It was sunny with a breeze, so a wander through a fairly open park seemed like just the right thing to do that afternoon, hopefully something she could find some interest in, so she didnât get bored right away and just go home to read something.
Maybe she shouldâve brought a book, in case she didnât manage to strike up conversation somewhere. Oh, foiled plans.
---
It wasnât too bad a day, but even a warm day wasnât something that bothered Elsa. The cold never bothered her, but neither did the heat; she had figured out a way to coat her skin in a thin layer of ice.
It gave her a slight bit of sparkle as she wandered through the park, lost in thought.
Elsa spied some kids playing on a swingset, glanced around to see if anyone was looking, then tapped her foot on the ground. Ice shot out towards the swingset, then exploded in a flurry of snow around the children.
---
Blossom heard the screams, childlike but joyful, so nothing to worry about, just as she noticed the snow falling around the little play area. Snow? Blossomâs head tilted to the side, watched the little flurry falling down as kids ran around, chasing to toss snow on each other, catching little snowflakes in their hands.
Deciding to move closer, Blossom reached out to catch some of it falling on her finger tips, laughing a little. âIsnât this just crazy?â She glanced at a blond lady nearby, still grinning, because Orange County was weird enough to have a tiny microclimate with snow, of course.
---
âNo, this is perfectly normal,â Elsa said, a coy grin on her face. âIt snowed in July last year, too.â
Perhaps not in a very localized area like this. âItâs almost like the weather has a mind of its own.â
A number of snowmen spun up from the snow and started dancing around the children, though Elsa was careful not to give them sentience or anything approaching actually being alive.
---
Perfectly normal seemed like a stretch, maybe if there was a âfor Orange Countyâ tacked on there, that would be a passable statement, but Blossom was left frowning for the most part over it all. It was clearly a fun experience for the kids; some of them mightâve never actually seen snow except today depending on if they were local or from somewhere else.
âWell, weather doesnât have a mind, obviously, but with the change in climate it is entirely possible that the weather can be unpredictable enough to cause sudden dips in pressure and increases in chill that can meet in a cross wind in order to---â
It took Blossom a second to just watch the snowmen the kids were playing with, while she stopped her mouth and let her brain engage, âI realise now you meant that figuratively and werenât looking for a motormouth to go off at you. Sorry.â
---
Elsa found herself smiling as Blossom went into the science of it all, which was, actually something she appreciated. âI donât mind. I almost went into weather when I was younger. Ended up an architect instead. Being a weatherwoman would have been ironicâŚâ
She clasped her hands behind her back. âSo this isnât surprising to you?â
---
Blossom had flirted with the idea of weatherperson too, although it was a quick and fleeting thought, mostly when sheâd started to learn the details of how rain was made and understanding tectonic plates and wind directionality and how it could be used to predict weather patterns. But being on the TV wasnât something that Blossom wouldâve really been comfortable with.
âIâll bet the architecture world is glad you made the decision.â And it seemed more and more like a science understanding wasnât needed to tell the weather anymore.
âNot really, Iâve lived here for a little while now,â long enough to see that things didnât have an explanation in Orange County, âweird things happen around here and itâs okay.â Weirder than having dreams of another life, most of the time it was just super fascinating. âI guess around here we just go with things, right?â
---
âI like to think theyâre grateful for me. Iâve landed some amazing contracts since leaving university, so Iâll consider those wins.â Elsa shifted a little on her feet, uncomfortable with talking about herself.
âI guess we do. If itâs not some giant dragon wrecking your house, itâs something else. And no, Iâm never letting that go, ever.â
A regular earthquake would have been preferable.
---
âIâll bet they are, creative talent is something they undoubtedly cherish.â Although Blossom didnât know for sure that Elsa was greatly talented, but Blossom always assumed the best of people because it was better to start like that.
âOh, yeah, thatâs a bummer.â Blossom wasnât sure how people dealt with these things on the regular. âMy dad was shocked at the insurance prices so I have to hope to goodness that nothing bad happens.â Or not overly bad.
Hopefully no more dragons at least.
---
Not everyone appreciated creative talent, but Elsa hadnât run into too many of those. She didnât expect that luck to last forever, eventually sheâd get a bad client, but hopefully not for awhile and sheâd hopefully figure out a way to handle it.
âTheyâre a bit high,â Elsa agreed. âI donât have a car but when I get one Iâm afraid to even look at those. Cars get wrecked all the time out here.â
It wasnât the most fun conversation to have, so Elsa switched subjects. âJust taking a walk?â
---
That made Blossom all the more sure sheâd be finding another mode of transport than a car if she was going to be paying high premiums and possibly deal with it being destroyed a lot. Maybe a bike, that would be better.
âIâm trying to stay healthy,â it was probably something that happened all around California, âbut Iâm not so great at organised events.â She wasnât sporty, she didnât like gyms and things like that. âIâm glad I did now, so that I could see this.â She smiled at the snow stuff, because it was fascinating seeing these things.
---
âI wish I could do more. Last year I had a mini blizzard and I got more complaints than thanks.â Elsa wrinkled her nose. It still stung a little. Thereâd been a heat-wave and sheâd just been trying to help. âWalking is a great way to stay healthy, as long as you try to stay cool while doing it. Would you like your own snow flurry?â
---
It took Blossom a little while to figure out, but then she realised that it was an indication that this what the blond woman was doing. Which⌠was cool. âWhy would people complain about that? About something helping them stay cool?â And okay, blizzards might be a little but much for people, but why complain? âThat seems rude of them.â Which it did, someone trying to help and they complained. Very rude.
She did need to remember to hydrate, but⌠âI⌠I would love one.â She was sure, if she was a cartoon, sheâd have heart eyes at that exact moment, âYouâd do that? Really?â
---
âIt was rude,â Elsa agreed. Rude and unnecessary, but she decided to leave the past in the past. No matter how rankled the thought still made her.
She tilted her head, endeared by Blossomâs reaction to her offer, then winked at her. âI think a limited duration one, Iâm sure after a few hours youâll want the snow to stop.â
And if she did this right, it shouldnât melt all over things either. The power of magic. With a flourish of her fingers, and a trick of the wrist, Elsa sent a flurry of sparkles in Blossomâs direction. A little cloud formed overhead, dropping snow that drifted to the ground but did not stick nor leave a wet mess behind.
---
Magic had to be the coolest thing, and even though Blossom was getting used to people talking about it and her dreams having super powers. So something like this, having a little flurry of snow for herself, thatâd be so cool and really help her not overheat.
âThatâs so neat!â Her hands were held out under her, the snow dropping onto her hands, so cool on her skin while the little cloud was so cute above her. And if sheâd have this to wander with before it would just fade off, that was so sweet too.
She couldnât get why people wouldnât be so pleased with this. âThis is the best thing ever, youâre so freakinâ cool.â Ice powers, how amazing was that!
---
âI am a little bit sub-zero,â Elsa joked, eyes flashing in delight at Blossomâs reaction. People liked this sort of thing, which was a lesson she should have learned from her dreams, but try telling that to the anxiety goblin sheâd nicknamed Hans. Still, she had fully relaxed again, in the delight of Blossomâs delight.
So she blurted out, âI can make ice castles too!â
---
âAre you freaking kidding?â Blossom couldnât contain that little outburst, because really? Ice castles!? How was that not a thing that was loved around here? âThat sounds amazing? I mean, a castle? Made of ice. Thatâd be an amazing attraction.â
It seemed like maybe, just maybe, someone needed to tell this woman how absolutely amazing having those powers were. âI take it youâre a dreamer, right?â Because otherwise this would be weird. âMan, I wish I had ice powers.â
---
âYou act like Iâm some kind of Disney princess,â Elsa replied, lighting up just a little. âOr well, Queen in my case. A snow Queen, more or less, with magic I was born with. In my Dreams, yes.â
Though she didnât know the origins of her powers and had always been curious. She tugged lightly at her braid. âI made a beautiful palace. I havenât.. quite decided what I want to do here yet. Iâve been practicing various designs. ActuallyâŚ!â
And here Elsa started to nerd out, âItâs been really great for my work, I can visualize a design and make a mini 3d version from Ice almost immediately, to look for any weak points or to just see what the building looks like!â
---
âI mean, itâd be a super cool story right? Awesome Princess with powers helps the whole nation have fun, becomes Queen and unites with northern kingdom by befriending a Princess turned Queen with like, maybe fire powers? Or air powers? Thatâd be so cool.â Not that stories like that were ever told. Every Princess needed to have a Prince, and that was just bleh!
âYou know, if you could find a way to like, keep the designs cold always, you could really make some super cool designs and like, sell them? Or display them? Thatâd be a really cool art installation right? Miniature 3D models of beautiful ice sculpture buildings. Like the Eiffel Tower and Taj Mahal, the coliseums?â Blossom was probably getting a little carried away with things though.
âOr even just for yourself, thatâd be so neat too.â Collecting some snow in her hands, Blossom gave an awed sigh, âI just think itâs so rad.â Rad, ugh, she needed to speak normally.
---
âI wish it had been like that,â Elsa admitted, lowering her head as she remembered how alone sheâd been in her dreams. âI was so afraid of hurting people that I locked myself away. And you know what happens when youâre repressed for years and thenâŚ. lose control.â
A mini blizzard suddenly raged at their feet, then started to form into the buildings Blossom mentioned.
âThough I really wouldnât have minded a gorgeous fire princess.â Elsa smiled bashfully, âMuch more my type than a prince.â
---
âYeah,â Blossom sighed a little, she was sure that it would be scary, powers and origin stories sounded like theyâd be cool on the outside, but having them was probably super scary. She didnât really have that in her dreams, she and her sister sharing their powers and just always having them. Not to mention that things didnât really get deep and dark in her dreams. âThat sounds a little less fun.â A lot less fun.
The blizzard caught Blossomâs attention, crouching a little bit to look at the models, and she was right, they looked so very cool, it was almost a shame that they would melt. âWell, itâs not like youâd need one, a prince I mean.â Blossom got tired of the Disney stories where all the Princessâ problems went away when she found her Prince. Like having a man was the most important thing. Sure, it was nice, and Blossom wouldnât mind a boyfriend whenever it happened, but it wasnât like all her problems would go away with that.
âFire and ice would be so great though, right? Like a nice balance.â
---
âI donât recommend accidentally creating eternal winters,â Elsa said, managing to make a joke of it which was something she was sure her therapist would be proud of. âAt least not without knowing the secret to bringing back summer.â
She looked at the buildings, the ice glistening in the sun, and appreciated the adorable redheadâs words. âIâd marry the princess if sheâd have me, but youâre right, I donât need one of those either!â
They were just kind of nice to have. âMaybe that was one reason things didnât work out with my last girlfriend. Too much ice between us, too much alike.â
---
Blossom didnât think that an eternal winter would be great; too much cold for too long was probably bad for most people. Probably not if you liked the cold and winter, but everyone got tired of the same thing day after day.
Giving a soft smile, Blossom shook her head a little, âI donât think being too alike is a problem either, sometimes things just donât work out, the time might not be right, or maybe youâre not really meant for each other. It doesnât mean that you need someone different.â There was that saying, opposites attract, but that the same time likeness attracted likeness.
So either you were meant to date someone entirely different, or entirely the same. And even there, it wasnât like there was a guarantee. âIâm sure the right person is out there, somewhere. And youâll meet her when the time is right.â
---
It was nice to hear it, at least put that way. It didnât alleviate her heart of the hurt, and she knew that her and Weiss were destined to never be more than friends, a bit like how it had worked out with Ozma. She just had to remind herself it wasnât anything wrong with her, just luck.
Mostly she missed the intimacy. And the flirting. She understood a lot better why her sister was flirty, now.
Which was why it was really hard not to wink at Blossom. âIâm sure sheâs out there, Iâll just have to have your optimism in mind.â
---
In a sense, Blossomâs youth worked in her favour. Sheâd never really had her heart broken, sheâd had one boyfriend in high school and it wasnât some big love affair, they went to a few dances together and went bowling one time and hung out with friends, but it wasnât a whirlwind romance that made her think theyâd be together forever.
âI think everyone will have someone, yâknow? Itâs just about finding the right person.â
She did hope that Elsa at least found someone, even a few someones, people to love and grow with. âI can loan you my optimism though, like if you need any, you can just like, call me and Iâll just flood optimism everywhere.â
---
Meanwhile, Elsa had messed up her relationship with her sister and her parents, and never got a chance to repair the latter. And while she was on good terms with her exes they were still...exes.
"Sometimes I think that one person might just end up being a friend and not a lover. And maybe that's okay. But I'll take a little of that optimism as long as you keep some for yourself!"
---
âOh I have so much optimism.â That was something she was told on the regular, âyouâre so optimisticâ, âhow can you be so optimisticâ, âyouâre brimming with optimismâ. And it wasnât a bad thing, how could being optimistic be a bad thing?
âBut would it be so bad? A platonic soulmate? I think thatâd still be nice, having that person you can always rely on, regardless of where you are or what youâre doing. And not have it be tied up into something romantic?â Blossom wasnât sure that romance was everything, she just wanted connections with people.
---
âIt wouldnât be bad at all!â Elsa smiled, agreeing completely. She thought, maybe, Ozma was a bit like that in some ways, while other people might be in other ways. So maybe it was possible for different people to take on different aspects in her life.
Which was okay too. âMakes it less complicated, at least. But thereâs a lot to like about the idea.â
---
âWhatever it is, Iâm sure youâll find something that makes you feel complete.â Even if it wasnât a person, or just something or someone to share things with. âI have a sense for these things, Iâm sure of it.â
She didnât though, even if she hoped that it was true, but she just felt like someone as awesome as Elsa undoubtedly shouldnât be lonely at all. In any capacity.
