Contrary to popular belief Caleb did have friends that were not named Reid, Tyler, and Pogue. Today was one of those times when he was getting away from his friends and boyfriend to spend time with a new friend and it just happened to be his same name friend. Caleb Rivers had texted him to ask him if he wanted to come over and play video games, which was just the mindless fun that Caleb needed right now. Mindless fun was the perfect end to a long week of work and he made his way over to Caleb’s place with a couple six packs and some random snacks. He knocked on the door and waited to be let in.
Caleb was always up for video games. In fact that was usually how he spent his free time. But he had to admit it was better with another person around. More fun. And made him feel a bit less alone - though to be honest Caleb almost always felt alone - had ever since he was a kid. But still the fact remained that company was always welcome which was why he was glad Caleb Danvers was coming over to join him today.
He had just finished ordering a few pizzas when he heard a knock on the door. “Hey,” he greeted as he opened the door to let Caleb in, eyes taking in the beer and snacks. He grabbed the six packs leading Caleb into the kitchen (which was visible from the door already - the loft had an open floor plan.) “Perfect. I just ordered some pizza too. I hope you’re good with meat lovers.”
“Definitely fine with a meat lovers,” Caleb could have thrown in a gay joke there, but he didn’t know Caleb well enough to see how that would go over, so he tucked it away in his head to tell Pogue later, “And that is some perfect timing.” He followed Caleb into the apartment as they headed to the kitchen and he set down his stuff.
“What game are we going to play tonight?” Caleb was pretty open to what games he played. Although he did have to admit there were a few heated games of Mario Party when he was in high school and that game as well as Mario Kart could definitely break friendships.
Honestly Caleb had thought about making a joke himself. Because really you’d think pizza places could come up with a better name for it than that. But that was what it was called so Caleb just went with it.
“I was thinking GTA.” It was one of Caleb’s favorites which was slightly ironic given he used to help people steal cars but whatever. “Unless you’d prefer something else.”
“Oh man, I haven’t played GTA in forever. Sounds good to me,” Caleb had played that game when it came out, but fell off a while ago, but he knew a few guys that still played quite often. It had been a fun game and despite the media’s thoughts it definitely didn’t make him run out and commit those kinds of crimes, “Just gotta make sure to steal a helicopter.”
It definitely wasn’t the video game that made Caleb go steal cars. More his life in general. Needing a way to make money and putting his hacking skills to use. “Awesome,” Caleb said handing over a controller to the other Caleb before taking a seat on the couch and starting up the game.
Caleb grabbed the controller and moved to sit by the other Caleb, “So what else is going on in your life? I haven’t seen you in forever. And you don’t strike me as the type to stop by the gay bar I work at.” Although he was sometimes surprised by the people that did come into the bar, but he was never one to judge. It was just an interesting place to work.
“Work mostly,” Caleb said with a shrug. Because even when he wasn’t in the office he was almost always on call. Just in case there was some sort of breach. It was a very all consuming job. But the money was good and Caleb got to do what he liked. “And bars. Dive bars usually.” Not that he had anything against gay bars, it just wasn’t his scene. “But if you can get me a discount I might have to come by while you’re working.”
“That’s just a bit boring, dude. You are starting to sound like me when someone asks what I’ve been doing,” Caleb was trying to do more than just work, internship, and all that, “And I always give my friends at least one free drink, so you can always come visit. I mean you at least get to watch some interesting stuff going on. And there’s usually some cute girls who come in.” Usually large bachelorette or birthday parties, which could be a handful sometimes.
“Guess that makes you boring too,” Caleb replied with a grin. Though he didn’t mind being boring. He had enough excitement before he got to Orange County. He liked boring. “If there’s a free drink I’m there.” Cute girls didn’t matter that much to Caleb. Though he did have the occasional one night stand, he wasn’t all about hooking up.
"I know quite a few people who would agree with that and I am definitely boring compared to my boyfriend," Pogue was the more adventurous out if the two of them and Caleb needed to learn to have a little more fun sometimes, "And good, you better come entertain me for a bit." He couldn't help but want his friends to hang out while he was working; it made the night go a lot quicker.
“I’ll crack one joke per free drink,” Caleb grinned only slightly teasing. He would do his best to entertain but he wasn’t expecting all his drinks to be free. “I don’t think I even know what bar you work at.”
"Wow, that is a hard bargain," Caleb countered with a laugh, "not sure if your jokes are worth losing my job. I work at Pandemonium, which is more of a club. It is owned by a couple guys on the Network, which is nice because they understand the OC weirdness."
“Didn’t I tell you I almost had a career as a stand up comedian?” Caleb replied with a smirk. “But yeah I’ll definitely check it out.”
“You would be absolutely terrible at it,” Caleb teased him with a laugh and made a face. He heard something at the door, which must have been the pizza, “Ah perfect, let’s grab some greasy food to go with our beers before we start playing this.” It was going to make for a very fun night, which was just what he needed.<.lj-cut>
