It was another day. Anna was feeling better about things, most things. Elsa’s texts still were worrisome but she really didn’t think she had to think about Mitch like that. He was a good, solid guy-so she pushed the tiniest of worries out of her mind and threw on a cute red bikini with a dress to cover until they got to the beach anyway. Who knew if he’d want to stop and do something first. Either way, she showed up at his apartment early in the afternoon and knocked at his door. Dreams could go to hell, today was beach day and they were both going to enjoy it damnit. She had a red theme going on which suited her red hair, even decided to put on a bit of red lipstick to match. Just because it was the beach didn’t mean she couldn’t look cute, hell in her mind that was entirely what it was for. * The moment the knock came on the door, Mitch was up and answering it. “Well, hey there lady in red,” he said with a smile before moving out of the way and motioning for her to come right on in. Once she was in, he shut the door. Lydia wasn’t home yet again. So he had just been channel surfing before Anna showed up. He grabbed the remote and turned the TV off. Not like there was anything on. Plus whenever he was with Anna, they always got up to something. “What brings you here today?” * “Hey, I duno just thought I’d show up in a skimpy outfit and parade around your place for a while. Idk.” She said with a shrug and a bit of a laugh “Maybe I should tell your neighbors you ordered an escort service instead of a beach day after all?” She asked with a teasing wink as she glanced over at the tv. “No more boring stuff, lets go out! Get your swimming stuff, shit we live in beach land and haven’t been to the beach all summer!” * “This is you we’re talking about here,” he pointed out. Mitch wouldn’t be at all surprised if that was the only reason why she dressed like that and dropped on by. “Please don’t give the more reasons to hate me.” He was pretty sure they were just as annoyed over the banshee scream as he was. “Okay, okay, give me a minute.” He headed into his bedroom changed his jeans into boardshorts and then came back out. * Anna grinned at that remark. “I resent that.” But obviously by the laughter, not all that much. She snickered and tapped her foot, pretending like she was waiting forever. when he came out. “I think I got dressed quicker than you.” She teased, pulling his arm toward the door and pushing a button on her phone to call up an uber for them. It wasn’t long before said uber arrived and they could climb in. “I doubt your neighbors hate you. Nobody could.” She glanced back at that building though, making a face at it. Maybe she’d send them all cookies or something, smooth things over. Everybody liked cookies right? * “Hey, I had to find them first, okay. It’s been a while.” Before anything else could be said he was getting pulled out of the apartment. He did manage to lock the door while Anna called them an Uber. “I’m pretty sure they hate me now. Lydia and her fucking screaming. I’m getting tired of it. I’m sure they are as well.” Maybe he should just move now and just start fresh again. Actually, that didn’t seem like such a bad idea. He might have to actually look into that after today. “So, what do you have planned for us?” he asked once they were in the car. * “Oh.” She glanced down at them, curious to see what condition they were in. “Well at least they still look good. No grandpa shorts.” She teased with a grin and then frowned a little as they got into the car. “Are you happy with her?” If he wasn’t happy then the answer was probably to move on. If he was, well Anna would be disappointed but she could handle that. She’d handled disappointment most of her life as it was. She could just be friends, even if she really wanted to sleep with him. Pining was not fun. But when he switched directions of the conversation she smiled and watched the world pass by for a second before looking back at him. “Surfing, beach picnic and whatever else the hell we find! There’s a boardwalk where we’re going. They have drinks.” * This hadn’t been the direction he wanted the conversation to go, but Anna asked the question and he might as well answer it. “Not really,” he replied as he looked over at her. “I think we moved too fast.” He shouldn’t have let her move in. It was way too fast and now things were just not that great. THey definitely should have moved slower, really gotten to know each other and all of that other good stuff before two people actually decide to live with one another. He looked away and looked out the window for a moment before turning his attention back to Anna. “I knew there would be drinking. It's kind of our thing.” He flashed her a small smile. “So, basically we’re going to be busy.” * “Do what makes you happy, life is too short to be miserable.” She patted his thigh and nudged him. “I mean it’s not like you have to marry her right?” He hadn’t asked her to be his wife had he? Oh god, that would be awkward. She realllly hoped the answer was no! “Uh huh, we’re gonna have a real summer day. It’s almost over you know. Then it’s the season of pumpkin spice Latte.” She smiled. Couldn’t exactly have PSL’s on the beach! Well you could, but that’d be weird. “I’m not sad at all it’s our thing. Are you? Maybe we should surf before drinks though...being able to stand is good.” She laughed as she pulled her hair away from her face as she made the mistake of cracking the window to smell beach air since they were getting near by. “Maybe if we can it might be fun to grab a fire pit. But those are always impossible to get.” * “You’re not wrong.” Anna was right, Mitch knew that. And honestly, he was pretty close to kicking Lydia out and just ending their relationship. “Nope, I don’t. We didn’t move that fast.” The only dumb thing he did was let Lydia move in. He hadn’t asked her to marry him. “Summer did go by pretty quickly.” he couldn’t believe it was almost September. “Oh god, can’t wait to see the five hundred things that are pumpkin or cider flavored.” You knew it was truly September with everything was one of those two flavors. “Nope,” he said with a shake of his head, “I like that it’s our thing.” He laughed. “Uh, yeah, drunk surfing probably wouldn’t be a very good idea.” Especially since they had no clue what they were doing. “If we can, we should, if not, that’s okay too.” * “I apparently asked a guy from my dreams to marry me within not even a day of meeting him, so I mean I had to ask. As if I know what normal is.” She shrugged comically and gave him an amused look. “You can add it to your cereal now too. They make it in a pure form of powder, you can literally do lines of pumpkin spice if you wanna get it that way.” She teased, causing their driver to raise an eyebrow as he finally found somewhere to park. They’d arrived! Beach shenanigans could officially begin. She slid out the door, eagerly pulling him with her “Have you ever surfed before?” She pointed out a spot where they could go rent boards for a small fee and headed in that direction. “I like that we have things.” She hadn’t really had anyone to have things with before. * Mitch stared at Anna for a moment before laughing. “Wow, your dream self has a problem.” He pulled a face when she mentioned putting it in his cereal. “How about I don’t. That sounds pretty gross.” He shook his head. Nope. He was not going to snort Pumpkin spice either. Just hell no. Once the driver had parked, he climbed out and started walking alongside Anna. “Nope, I have never tried surfing. Tried snowboarding once. But I know that is not the same thing.” One was on snow, the other is on water. Totally two different things. He knew he was going to eat it the whole time they were out there. “Have you?” he asked as he followed her lead towards the rental place. “Me too or I wouldn’t be hanging out with you so much.” * “I mean technically he asked me, but I still agreed! We hadn’t even known eachother for twenty four hours. Prince Hans.” Anna made a face. Guy even sounded like a douche bag and she’d barely met him dream wise and she already could see he was up to no good in real life. She practically wanted to strangle her dream self and scream at her that he wasn’t worth a damn. But she couldn’t. She was stuck watching it all play out. “Nope, I have no clue what the hell we’re doing!” She smirked as she grabbed a board and nudged him toward the water. The sand was warm, the boardwalk was basically perfect. It was like some bad summer teen romance, and she was living for it. * “Can’t wait to see what happens next in your dreams.” Her dreams sounded crazy, but not as crazy as his. He hasn’t even had any in a while, which was fine by him. He really didn’t want to see what was next for his dream self and he really didn’t want to wake up to more items or more wounds. “Great, we’re both clueless.” He grabbed one of the rented boards and followed Anna out into the sand. * “Dream me isn’t exactly the smartest tool in the shed I think.” She frowned a bit, not really wanting to know but at the same time it was kind of like a story. “It’s a little like an adventure book, there’s singing. Little me used to sing in the hallways of a giant castle since nobody else was around.” They had servants and stuff but they never really spoke. “Yep! It’ll be half the fun. Hope you’re hungry, ‘cause you’re probably about to eat a lot of sand. And water. Or drink it, whatever. “ She waved a taunting hand at him and grinned as she headed off for the water, picking a random spot to leave her bag in. She pulled off the red thing she wore ontop of the red bikini underneath and gave him a wink. “Whatcha think? It was used in the last swimsuit shoot. I may have liberated it from set.” It had some cute little fabric details, but mostly it was skimpy and brightly colored. * “Ya think?” Mitch didn’t even need to know much else to come to that conclusion. Like, who in their right mind says yes to marriage to somebody who they’ve only known for a few hours? “It sounds like those cartoon movies that are popular,” he pointed out. He shook his head at her. “I think you’re going to be eating it a lot more than me.” Now he was going to be even more determined to stay up right when they hit the water. Once Anna picked their spot on the sand, Mitch set the board down and removed his shoes and his shirt. “Where's the rest of it?” he jokingly asked as he gave Anna the once over. “You look good,” he finally said, this time being serious. It was probably a good thing she didn’t show up like that to the apartment, they probably would have never left it. * “I mean years of isolation will make people do any number of crazy things I guess. She had nobody. The only thing she ever had were movies and stuff telling her that romance was the way to freedom.” She shrugged, then made a face at him. “I’m going to be a skillful pro, thank you very much.” She laughed at that and removed her shoes as well. Her face fell at first with n exasperated stare. “I could go grab a sheet if you want.” But she doubted he did want, and she smiled a minute later to the compliment. “You do too.” She said without even thinking about it as he pulled off his shirt and she caught a glimpse and quickly looked back at the water like she hadn’t just embarrassed herself. “Um first one to leave the water buys lunch?” Always a competition with her. * “I guess so,” Mitch said in agreement. Because only someone crazy like that would do the things her dream self is doing. “Your poor dream self. She’ll learn, I’m sure.” He snorted at her comment about being a pro. She wasn’t going to just hop out there and be awesome at it. That was just not how it worked. “Uh huh,” was all he said. “Um, nope, you don’t need a sheet.” She looked good. She definitely didn’t need to cover up. “Thanks?” He smirked a little when he noticed how quickly Anna looked away. “You’re on.” He grabbed his board and started making his way to the water. * “I hope so, or it’s going to be a huge heartbreak for her I think.” She hoped those feelings didn’t transfer over if it was. She didn’t want anymore heartbreak. She’d had enough with a sister that ignore her. Anna winked at him and picked up the board “Lets goooo then!” It wasn’t that much bigger than she was, but it was awkward. “I’m gonna win, prepare to taste defeat.” She glanced back at him with a laugh and left everything at their spot. The beach wasn’t that crowded, but there were people out, public drinking was a thing on the board walk. Some couples had beers or spirits. Some were in the water. Anna practically bounced on the balls of her feet to get into the waves. She couldn’t wait much longer, like a child at an amusement park she jumped in and waved. “Come on already!” * “Well, I’m always around if you need to talk about it if it happens,” he told her. He knew the feels came along with the dreams. He knew it was going to suck whenever Anna had something bad happen. But he would be there for her when it happened. “Yeah, yeah, stop running your mouth and get going.” It was a good thing the beach wasn’t crowded. That meant less people in the water for them to run over on accident. “I’m coming,” he shouted back as he made his way in. “We all don’t run at five hundred miles per hour.” * “I know.” When he did finally reach the water, she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and grinned “Yeah obviously, some people have lead feet!” A wave was coming, Anna didn’t have the first clue how to actually get up on the board, she looked around them and watched a few surfers straddle their boards. She climbed up ontop of it and wobbled, using Mitch’s shoulder in an attempt not to fall face first in the water. Eventually she settled and the board didn’t flip, but even the slightest little bump in the water made her grip the board for dear life. “See, I’m a pro.” Okay, so she could sit on the board. * “Are you trying to say I have lead feet?” he asked, eyebrow raised. Mitch held onto the board as the small wave came. They hadn’t made it too far out yet, so the wave wasn’t huge. “Uh huh,” he said with a laugh as he watched Anna. She was going to fall and he was going to laugh when it happened. He did eventually climb up onto his own board and paddled out a little. He didn’t want to go too far out since he really had no idea what he was doing. “Why are we doing this again?” * “I don’t think I’m trying, I am! C’mon lead foot!” She laughed, then flailed as she held onto her board like no tomorrow when that tiny wave came to disturb the peace. Rude. She followed right behind and shrugged. “‘Cause it’s summer, duh! And I think people are supposed to like things like this. But I’m failing to see why!” She was struggling. Surfing was hard okay! She reached out with a hand to grab Mitch’s leg and grinned. “Now this is the way you surf.” Letting other people tow you along. But a slightly larger wave came, Anna paddled out a little further now, waves were getting bigger and more rocky. “Woah.” She could swim pretty well, but she wasn’t really a pro. “Lets just catch one and we’ll go in!” Drinks needed to be had after all, it was a thing. She waited for another wave as she got positioned, she wobbled and stood when she felt the water shift. What she didn’t expect was not to catch a wave at all, but she caught her foot on the board and fell right under the water instead. This was not her best idea ever. * “Not everyone has to like this,” he pointed out as he tried to shake off Anna. He was not her tug boat. “This is not surfing. This is you clinging to my foot while I try to paddle out.” Once his foot was free, Mitch sat up on his board and let the wave go by since he hadn’t been ready for it. “Already over the whole surfing thing?” he asked with a smirk. He, like Anna, waited for another wave to come. He finally picked one and only managed to stand up halfway before losing his balance and falling into the water. Yeah, he sucked at this. It wasn’t long before he was walking out of the water, board in hand, and making his way towards their small pile of stuff on the sand. * She looked like a drowned rat when she resurfaced and cracked up when he ended up in the water as well “aww wait come back!” She laughed again and drank some nasty salt water and made a face. “Ick, yeah okay.” It didn’t take her too long either, “Surfing sucks. Or we suck, the verdict is still out.” She was covered in sand and grossness. “Next time tell me this is a bad idea?” She nudged him and tried to shake some sand off one hand. “Why is this in everyone’s ideal image of a perfect summer? What’s a perfect summer anyway?” She frowned “Needs more drinks. That sounds like a perfect summer. And a shower.” She made a face. * “Nope, I’m done. I suck at this,” Mitch said as he continued to walk away, waving at Anna as he did so. “Looks like you're over it too!” He looked at her once she caught up. “I think it’s us that sucks,” he pointed out. They were newbies at it. These other people who were surfing had probably been doing it for years. “Okay, I’ll do that,” he said with a nudge back. “A perfect summer is whatever you want it to be.” He never bought into it all. “There’s an outdoor shower,” he pointed towards said shower. “We can rinse off the sand, take the boards back and then go get drunk.” * “So done.” She made a face as she dumped the board down by their stuff opposite of his. “Pretty sure I have sand in places I didn’t know could get sand in them. Lets get the hell out of here.” She made a face. “Maybe that’s our perfect summer. Drinks and beach. Sounds a bit more our speed.” |
