Percy timed his visit to the Burrow after the family had their dinner, so he knew at the very least mum and dad would be there. He'd asked Ginny and Bill to be present, hoping they could act as emotional support, and though Percy didn't tell them that was the reason, it was pretty much assumed. Ron lived there, so the chances were good that he'd be present, but he hoped that Fred and George wouldn't; Percy wasn't sure he wanted to face those two, yet.
Unlike the first time he spoke with Ginny, he didn't specifically tell her not to let his parents know he was coming, nor did he give the same instruction to Bill. He let them use their discretion. But judging from mum's reaction when she opened the door and found him standing on the front porch, they must not have told.
At first, Molly was surprised. Then there was a sudden outburst of anger for being away for so long and a suspicion that he was there to cause conflict. But before too long she was welcoming him with tears and clinging hugs and a huge plate of food left over from dinner. Surprisingly, Arthur didn't react the way Percy thought he would, which was to respond coldly. After all, it was their argument that set Percy off, leaving home and the family without any contact for seven years. Instead, Arthur greeted his long long son with compassion and forgiveness, which almost brought Percy to tears. In fact, it was very difficult for Percy to reign in his own emotions to keep from breaking down.
Over an hour was spent updating his parents about what he'd been doing with his life, but nobody yet touched upon the reasons why Percy had left in the first place. It hung between Percy and the rest of his family like a specter. Percy eventually knew it would be eventually dealt with... it had to... but nobody wanted to ruin the mood, and Molly was afraid that if the wrong thing was said, Percy would leave again and never return.
