Jughead hated running around trying to get all the things he needed for school. It would be so much easier to just drop out. Then he could work full time, and maybe make enough money to save some for the future. Going to school for the better part of the day every day made that impossible. But education was important, and he took it seriously.
He wanted to be the first in his family to graduate high school. He wanted to be the first Jones to go to college, to get a degree, and a job. A real job. Not drifting from one job to the next accumulating a list of complaints and even a few arrests like his dad had done. He wanted to be someone, to make a difference. And the first step toward making that happen was to graduate high school.
He had a backpack stuffed full of supplies slung on his arm, and he was pretty sure he had everything he needed to get. Or at least everything he could afford to get right now. A few things would have to wait until his next pay check, which was going to be his last full time check for a while since he had to drop to part time with school starting. That sucked, but he did what he had to do.
He sighed, fingers caressing the coins in his pocket. He didn't have much left over, but there was enough to stop and get a burger. Burgers were his go-to, where some people like to much on chocolate or drink coffee. He preferred burgers. He knew he should save the money he had left over, but he was seriously craving a burger, and there was a diner right there, just ahead of where he was.
He made his way to it and stepped inside, breathed a deep breath to inhale the scent of burgers and grease and french fries. With the anticipation of a delicious burger in his immediate future, he made his way to the counter with the back pack hanging off his arm.
