Alex wasn’t really the club going type but there seemed to be one that had his attention so call Kyle Valenti curious. Curious enough to use a rare night off to slip into Pandemonium looking good enough to eat. At first he just observed and then eventually he headed into the crowd, artfully and masterfully side stepping a guy in hot pants before ducking around a slightly too drunk guy looking for anyone to dance with. Drink, he could definitely do with one of those. Kyle slid up to the bar and caught the eyes of the nearest bartender. “Can I get a vodka and lime?”
It wasn't a horribly busy night, so Caleb was quite enjoying the people watching that was occurring, which was usually pretty epic at the club. He had seen all types of people and he didn't even bat an eye at the guy in hot pants anymore. He was cleaning up a few glasses to prepare for the next rush of people to hit the bar after dancing for a while when he noticed a dark haired man come up to the bar. He made eye contact and Caleb knew to head over his way for his drink order. Vodka lime...super easy and Caleb gave him a nod before grabbing the supplies and placing it on the bar in front of him. "You got it. How's your night going?" Caleb asked as he prepared the drink and added a couple slices of lime to it.
“Interestingly,” Kyle said with a chuckle as he watched the drunk guy making contact with the one in the hot pants. “Yours?” He grabbed a seat and leaned forward to rest on the bar, fingers slipping up to comb through his dark hair.
Caleb watched the man's eyes notice the drunk guy and hot pants guy and let out a laugh, "Pretty good. You must not come here very often because that's pretty normal. As long as they don't fight it'll be fine, but I'm sure it'll turn into some sloppy dancing if you watch long enough." He slid the glass over to the man once he was finished.
Kyle snorted quietly as he reached into his pocket to dig out his wallet, pausing over the amount needed to pay for the drink plus an extra generous tip. “I think I’ll let them have as much privacy as is possible in a club.” He flashed a sharp smile before taking his first sip. “But you’re right. This is my first time here.”
"Thanks," Caleb commented as he took the money and held onto it for a moment before he went to ring it up, "Privacy is definitely hard to come by, but it seems like so many people get drunk enough to care. And welcome, hope you'll enjoy it. You picked a pretty busy night to stop in."
"Looks like it," Kyle said with a nod as he took a further sip of his drink. "But it beats working." Which he had been doing a lot of in recent years almost to the point where he'd had no life. Plus he'd seen his dad earlier in the day so distractions were a must and whilst this club wasn't really his normal scene it would definitely keep his mind off things.
"I'm sure it does. Definitely feel free to watch and observe until you feel comfortable. You don't take up a lot of bar space," Caleb couldn't help but chuckle at his comment. He didn't mind when people hung out at the bar. The area was big enough that most people grabbed drinks and then went to the floor anyway, but he had a few people that were too scared to go onto the floor right away.
Kyle couldn't imagine that he'd ever make his way to the floor, he wasn't big on dancefloors and crowds of people all pressing together. Maybe when he'd been younger but growth happened as you got older or what was the point of growing up? He had a feeling the dream version of himself felt that more keenly than he did. "Kyle," he offered, figuring it was only polite to give his name to the bartender he was talking to.
A lot of people thought about themselves, but once enough alcohol hit the system all bets were off. Especially if there happened to be someone who caught their interest. Caleb had seen it happen more times than not. He also had learned never to judge anyone at this job. "Caleb, nice to meet you," he flashed the man a smile, "be right back." He moved to head down to someone else who needed a drink.
“Right back at you,” Kyle said with a smile before he turned his attention to watching people as Caleb headed off to serve somebody else looking for a drink. The club definitely had life to it and he could tell everybody was having a lot of fun which was never a bad thing.
Caleb finished up with the other customers and made his way back over to Kyle. "You doing alright with that or want a refresh?" He nodded his head towards Kyle's drink, "I'm surprised no one has come over to ask you to dance or buy you another drink yet." Kyle has a handsome guy and usually on busy nights like this people were a little bolder.
Kyle glanced back from where he’d been watching people and nodded his head. “Yeah, I’ll take a refresh.” He chuckled and lifted his shoulders while rubbing at the back of his neck. “It’s okay. Not what I came looking for tonight. One of my friends has been coming here so I figured I’d check it out, see what the deal was.”
Caleb started to work on refreshing Kyle's drink and gave him a smile at being recommended by his friend, "Oh yeah? Perfect, the bosses will like to hear that word of mouth marketing is definitely working. Hopefully you continue to stop by."
"Yeah, my best friend Alex mentioned it," Kyle said with a nod of his head. "And he's notoriously crappy for doing anything fun so I figured it must be good if it got him out and about." Not that Kyle could talk given how many hours he worked.
Caleb couldn't help, but laugh when he heard Alex's name, "Oh yeah, I know Alex. And really? Notorious for never having fun, that's a bad title to have. I'll have to make sure to mention that the next time I see him."
Kyle chuckled. "He'd probably tell you the same thing about me." Peas in a pod or some shit like that. Kyle lifted his glass and took a further sip. "I'm working on it though, the whole having more fun part of things."
"Ahhh, so basically a friendship of just sitting around and doing nothing, gotcha. And don't worry, I know how it goes having to make sure you fit some fun into your life," Caleb gave Kyle an easy smile, "I usually get harassed by my friends for being too serious or too caught up in school or work."
"Basically that yeah," Kyle admitted with a laugh and lift of his shoulders in a way that was synonymous with 'what can you do?' because he wouldn't change it for anything. He could relate to what Caleb was saying though, he was used to the whole have more fun but normally it came from a place of love so it was hard to hold it against his friends. He finished off his drink and rapped his fingers against the bar. "What is it you do at school?"
Caleb definitely agreed with him because that was how it went with his friends most of the time. "I just graduated with a degree in history. I'm currently interning over at Natural History Museum in LA. It's been pretty interesting so far, lots of directing old people to where the exhibits are. I'm still not 100% sure on what I want to do with my degree, but museums have always been a place I enjoy. Should be able to do a bit more than just being a guide in a few weeks though; I'm excited to go into the archives and help curate things. Did you want a refill?"
the gaps in the sentences when the music was particularly loud or somebody just so happened to be making a lot of noise behind him. "Sounds like you've got it figured out which isn't a bad place to be after just graduating." He shook his head. "Nah, I shouldn't. Driving and I'm pretty sure I don't want to push my luck."
Caleb was pretty used to raising and lowering his voice depending on the music, "And I hope so. I feel like the only responsible one out of my friends sometimes." He couldn't help but tease them a little, but he expected his friends to eventually find their path and wouldn't push them towards anything. "And sounds good, do you want me to grab you a water or anything?" At least this guy seemed responsible compared to a few patrons that he had to prevent from driving home.
"Yeah, a water would probably be a good idea," Kyle agreed with a smile. Better safe than sorry. Honestly he should think about making a move, he'd been curious about the club and definitely had that curiosity sated. Maybe he'd come back or maybe he wouldn't. Honestly he hadn't thought that far ahead. Miracle he'd even gotten a chance to explore tonight given his crazy work schedule.
Caleb gave him a nod as he grabbed another glass and filled it up with water before sliding it in front of Kyle, "Alright, here's that for you. I gotta make my rounds again, so if you disappear before I get back have a safe drive back to your place. It was nice meeting you; feel free to come in anytime." He flashed him a friendly smile as he started to make his move down to the people at the end of the bar that looked ready to close out.
