Katherine had climbed in bed after a long night of work, she fell asleep instantly and started to dream again. She was in Bulgaria, in a small village, fooling around with a boy she liked and even had sex with him. Back in the 1400’s there wasn’t really contraception and she ended up pregnant. Her father hated her, she basically disgraced the Petrov’s family name by being promiscuous and pregnant. She had woken up with a gasp in the middle of her dream father yelling at her. Sitting there in her bed, Katherine rubbed her face, suddenly her kidneys were pulsing with release. She climbs out of bed, raced to the bathroom, and once she finished, she was washing her hands as she looked at the mirror and noticed her shirt was more filled out than before. Lifting the shirt, she saw a round bump, she shifted to the side, slid her hands over the baby bump, Katherine freaked out and screamed loudly. Jeremy had never really been a heavy sleeper and over the last couple of years his dreams had trained him to be able to react quickly even while sleeping so Katherine’s scream woke him instantly as well as Dragon who had finally gone back to sleeping in his dog bed. The boxer was at the bedroom door barking as Jeremy climbed out of bed and the moment the door was open Dragon bounded out, towards the bathroom door. “Katherine? Elena?” Flipping the light on in the hallway, Jeremy glanced at both bedroom doors check which of his sisters had lightly been the one who screamed. The scream had startled Elena out of a sound slumber as well. But she was up and at her door in a minute, meeting Jeremy’s gaze before a single gasp escaped her lips. “Katherine.” It had to be. And, just like that, medical training came into play, Elena racing to the bathroom, ready to do whatever life-saving technique was needed. “Katherine, what’s wrong? Are you hurt? What happened?” Eyes scanned her sister for any sign of injury. No blood, that was good. She was standing upright, also good, no injuries to the extremities that she could see...just a very very large belly. “...I’m sorry...what?” Katherine was standing there, shell shocked, she looked at the mirror, then at Elena who was in the doorway, “I….” she wasn’t even sure she could say the words, “i….” Holy fucking shit, how did this even happen? This was the worst day of her life and she’s had some pretty shitty ones. Suddenly she started to pinch herself repeatedly, “I need to wake up,” She kept pinching with no waking, “Don’t stand there, pinch me!” she demanded of Elena, “Why am I not waking up!” Katherine was full-on drama queen mode now. “THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!” she yelled at both her siblings now, “it was in my dream, fucking dream!” Jeremy got to the bathroom door just after Elena and his eyes widened as he took in the scene, “What the…” It wasn’t until Katherine started talking about her dream that Jeremy was reminded about Nadia. It had been so long since he’d had those dreams that he’d almost forgotten about Katherine’s daughter, “Shit. Kat, calm down.” He moved into the bathroom and made to grab her hands so she would stop pinching herself, “It’s gonna be okay, Katherine.” He wondered if he should have given his sister a bit of a head’s up on what to expect from her dreams. Then again, Jeremy never would have expected this to happen. “It was in your dreams,” Elena agreed as Jeremy stilled Katherine’s hands. She stepped forward, too, hands resting on Kat’s arms. “There’s some bleedover, though...remember? It’s why I’m a vampire or why one of the patients at the clinic had bruised ribs. Deep breaths. We don’t know what’s going to happen here.” Whether or not she would stay pregnant… “This is not okay!” Katherine snapped at Jeremy, but then Elena was there, defusing Katherine’s meltdown before it went into full effect. She took in a deep breath as her twin spoke, nodding her head, knowing Elena was right. Katherine muttered, “okay, okay, fine.” She looked at Jeremy, “sorry,” she didn’t want to be pregnant. “What am I going to do?” she puffed out as she looked at her belly. Jeremy wasn’t the least bit surprised that Elena had been able to calm Katherine down better than he had and once it appeared that her meltdown had passed, Jeremy let go of his sister’s wrists and took a step backwards, “Why don’t we go downstairs. It’s a little small in here for all three of us.” He didn’t think that any of them were going to be getting back to sleep any time soon so going downstairs was probably the best thing to do. “Yeah,” Elena nodded, rubbing Katherine’s arm soothingly. “I’ll make you some tea. Let’s sit down and talk this through. We don’t need to figure this all out tonight. We don’t know if you’ll stay pregnant or if it will pass, but let’s figure out a few things at least.” She looked between her two siblings, her chin quivered, but she took a deep breath, “yeah...you are right,” she nodded her head, they were right, “lets go downstairs, but I don’t want tea, I need ice cream.” She spun around, headed to her room to change into something a little more comfortable. “This is bananas,” she called out over her shoulder, “so fucked up.” “I think there’s some ice cream in the freezer.” Now that all three of them were living in the house grocery shopping was something that needed to be done regularly and Jeremy usually put ice cream on the shopping list. Once Katherine had left the bathroom, he glanced over at Elena, “How much do you know about Katherine’s past in the dreams exactly?” He was well ahead of both of his sisters in the dreams, but he didn’t know exactly where Elena was. “She told me a lot,” Elena answered. “Not everything because, well, it was Katherine. I know she had a child in Bulgaria in 1492...that’s why she went to England. Her father basically disinherited her. That’s why she met Klaus.” Katherine didn’t hear her siblings, she was in her bedroom, trying to put on some clothes, but honestly there was nothing that would fix, minus a shirt she stole to sleep in from some guy during her travels and some sweatpants that she rolled down for the baby bump “this is so fucked up,” she muttered as she headed out of her room to go downstairs. Jeremy nodded, glad that this wasn’t a huge surprise to Elena, “Alright. Good.” He turned towards the bathroom door, “Lets go take care of her.” As he stepped out of the bathroom, he spotted Katherine heading towards the stairs as well, “How’re you doing?” He hoped, for Katherine’s sake, that this pregnancy was only temporary and was only the dreams fucking with her briefly. “I’m going to go with not great,” Elena answered, stepping forward, too. “Come on, let’s get you some ice cream and then maybe you’ll let me do a preliminary exam? I doubt anything is wrong but it would be good to know that you’re okay.” Elena would be right as Kathrine sigh loudly at the pair as she headed down the stairs, “fine,” she grumbled as she headed to the kitchen. “I suppose we should see whatever this little fucker is,” she wasn’t happy, she hated this ,this was something she had never wanted….ever. “I feel like a beached whale.” Once they were downstairs, Jeremy went straight to the stove and grabbed the tea pot to start to fill it while Elena and Katherine talked, “I wonder if we should ask on the Network if something like this has ever happened to anyone,” Jeremy might have been on the Network and dreaming for a number of years now, but he couldn’t recall ever seeing anyone talk about a spontaneous pregnancy before. “Want to take that on?” Elena questioned. “Kat And I can go to the clinic. They’re used to weird medical conditions coming from the dream world. Usually it’s injuries though. I could see if they have anything in their records, though.” “Not a word that it’s me or what happened,” Katherine stressed to her brother, her arms crossed over her chest and stressed, “I don’t want to be known as the woman who got pregnant from a dream.” Also certain people will not let her hear the end of it. She sighed as she flopped in a chair, “bad enough going to the clinic.” If she had her way, she would hide in the house till this went away. “Don’t worry, I won’t name names.” Jeremy could only imagine what this was like for Katherine and he didn’t want to add to her stress, “From what I’ve heard about the clinic, it’s a couple dreamers, so they should be used to this sort of thing too.” Jeremy put the tea pot on the stove and took out three mugs and tea bags, “I can drive you guys there if you want.” “It is,” Elena confirmed. “I’ve even set ribs for someone who broke them when a building collapsed in a dream. You’ll be safe there. Plus HIPAA is still in effect.” She smiled with a nod. “That would be nice, thanks Jer..” Katherine groaned, “Yes, let's make this a family event,” she breathed out, but honestly she would rather be with them than a stranger, “Shit, I need to call in for work….” she groaned, “I didn’t bring my phone!” She heaved herself up with a sigh, “I’m not hungry, can we just go and get this over with?” “That’s impressive,” Jeremy was proud of Elena and the fact that she could do things such as set ribs, “Maybe someday I’ll be able to do something like that. I haven’t mentioned it yet, but I’m thinking of becoming an EMT.” As the kettle boiled, Jeremy poured two mugs of tea and brought them over to the table, “Drink this first, Kat. I’ll go get your phone.” Offering her brother a smile, Elena shrugged a bit bashfully. It definitely wasn’t the hardest thing in the medical world. “I think that sounds great. I didn’t know you were interested in the medical world.” She took the tea that was offered, looked at her baby brother and over to Elena, “you both are going to be unbearable now,” she muttered before she took a sip of her tea. Katherine was the underachiever, she knew her place, sighing loudly as she set her mug down, “I think you’d be great,” she offered, “I’ll help you study as I do for her,” her head tip to Elena. Jeremy smiled at his sisters, “Thanks. I’m definitely not interested in becoming a doctor or anything like that, but I think I could do a good job as an EMT.” No matter what anyone else, including Katherine, though, he’d never thought of his sister as an underachiever. If anyone had been an underachiever, it was him. After all, he’d come very close to not graduating high school because of all the days he’d skipped. It was only because he’d met Myrcella and didn’t want her to think he was a loser that he’d started turning things around, “I’ll go get your phone and your shoes, Kat. Then we can head over to the clinic.” “I think you could, too,” Elena agreed with a nod. “I’m so proud of you”. And she meant it, too. Pushing herself up, she gave him a quick hug. “Go on. We’ll be ready to go.” |
