“Look, I come with presents and not in the form of more tabloid rumors,” Fleur told Jim with a playful smile as she set a cup of coffee on the table next to him before sliding into the chair beside him, happy to sit down for a moment. After spending almost two weeks stuck to him she knew a thing or two about him, like how he preferred his coffee.
She set her own coffee down before setting to work on releasing her hair from the tight bun she had it pinned back in. That was the one thing she hated about ballet was that she always had to keep her hair tied back. The short sparkly dress peeking out from under her zipped up athletic throw was a close second; she would have to change out of her dance costume before they did any work on self-defense unless she wanted to be further known as a sparkle ninja or something similar.
“I see you are still alive but doing okay otherwise?” She asked in her accented English generally concerned about her friend’s well-being.
"And here I was looking forward to the latest thing on Bat boy," Jim said, grinning at her as she gracefully slid into the seat across from him. He took the coffee gratefully. He wouldn't mind a sparkle-ninja - it was both amusing and kind of hot. Bill had lucked out!
"I'm doing pretty well," he replied, nodding his head. "Very well, really. Things are looking up! And how about you? You look extra sparkly today."
Jim did have a lot on his mind. He knew he and Hermione were due to have a talk about his past and wild, wild ways. He wasn't looking forward to that.
“I will remember that for next time and make sure I come prepared,” Fleur told him with a laugh as she wrapped her hands around her steaming cup of coffee. It was a small pleasure but it was a welcomed one after a long morning at rehearsals; that and the company.
Fleur nodded, her blue eyes sparkling. “Would that have something to do with a certain young lady?” It was nice that she could tease him about his love life for once. “Pretty good myself. Had dress rehearsals this morning so do not mind the sparkles.” Truth was she rather liked the glamourous rhythmic gymnastics costumes, they were more exciting than tutus; they flowed, had sparkles, and were a lot shorter. The shorter length made them easier to move in and more sexy.
"How did you guess?" Jim took a sip of his coffee, letting the warm liquid spread from his belly to the limbs. It wasn't that he was cold, but he enjoyed the feelings, "How is it coming? You must be exhausted, all that bouncing around. Such hard work, Queen Sparkle."
His tone was teasing, but he knew it was hard, often times painful work. That didn't mean he wouldn't tease her.
“Hm, maybe because I know that look.” She also knew what it was like to be in a new relationship. Her relationship with Bill had been liked that when they first started dating and even now, after three months, it still felt new. It still felt exciting. “Going good for the two of you then I take it.”
Fleur laughed, “Sparkle Queen? You should bow to my authority then.” She had the feeling the nickname would stick for a while. “Much better now that I actually catch the props and they do not hit me in the head.” It was amusing now but it had been frustrating to try and learn to dance and keep a ribbon in motion or track of a ball. It had lead to many twisted ankles and bruises on her body.
“Perhaps I will drag you into coming to see it next weekend. Hermione might enjoy it.” Girls always liked that kind of thing.
"A bit rought thanks to the tabloids, but I think we'll muddle through. I'm frankly surprised your name didn't come up! We were stuck together for so long, it would only be natural to assume."
He laughed, imagining balls and loops smacking Fleur in the head, "Sure, I think that might be fun. Have to see what you put all that effort into."
“You will get through it,” Fleur reassured him. It wasn’t like either one of them were irrational or prone to believing what they read in the papers. “Could still happen! I could be some sexy old flame or your secret weekend fling.” It was certainly something that, that reporter would write. “You know there are a lot of dark secluded places in a theater. Do not worry mon amour, ton secret est en sécurité avec moi and I am sure we had a good time.” Fleur told him with a wink.
“If you decide you want to go let me know. I will get you good seats.” It would be easy enough.
"Now you've jinxed it." He complained, throwing up a hand, "And your boyfriend will kill me. I'd barely make the evening news." He paused leaning forward as she spoke in French. French was an awesome language.
"I'll send you a message as soon as I have confirmation from my date."
Fleur frowned a moment at that statement. She had seen Bill lose his temper before, when a guy at the coffee shop had gotten grabby, and it had been a little scary. Jim was already a touchy subject with him so he probably wouldn’t be happy if something was written. The last thing she wanted to do was argue with Bill or create problems for Jim.
“Yeah, I better not say anymore just in case.” You never knew who would be listening or watching them. It was rather annoying.
Fleur nodded, it was fair enough. “So, lunch or teaching me self-defense?” They were both good options.
"Rest assured I'm not going to be spreading any rumors," Jim said, holding up his hand like scout's honor. "How about a snack, then self-defense, then lunch? You'll be starving by the time I'm done with you."
With any other woman, at any other time, that sentence could be taken an entirely different way, and probably would have been intended to be.
“That makes two of us,” Fleur agreed with a nod as she reached the bag she had slipped under the table earlier. The last thing either one of them needed were rumors spreading though so far Fleur had been lucky in that department unlike Jim. “Did Hermione take it okay?” It was a random question but she was kind of curious.
“Whatever you say,” she said lightly. Anyone else she might have rolled her eyes at or shot back some flirty comment but she had been better about that since Bill had pointed it out to her that she did it. She would save her comments and suggestions for her boyfriend alone.
“Lets take the snack to go so we can get started sooner.”
"Not as well as I would have liked, but I think that was mostly initial panic," Jim said. taking another sip of his coffee. "And really, I can't blame her. I tend to have shorter relationships."
He did miss their casual flirting, but it was better to stay on Bill's good side. Even if they didn't mean anything by it, he didn't want to cause a rift between the two, "Whatever you want to snack on."
Fleur shrugged and figured she wasn’t one to say much because she didn’t know what that was like, to have such things written about her. She would like to think that she would just brush it off, joke about it, and go back to whatever it was she was doing. How Bill would react was another story and Fleur wasn’t sure she knew the answer to that.
“You and everyone else though,” before Bill, Fleur wasn’t sure she had a relationship that had lasted more than a few weeks. “This one aside I do not think I have had one that lasted more than like three weeks.” Fleur got bored easily what could she say?
“Fruit is always a good snack,” it was something that was small, easy, and could be consumed quickly between rehearsals. “If you say please I might even share with you or give you the cookies.”
"I think I beat you by a month or two," he said, laughing. "Janice was a month, maybe?" Isabela had been nearly as long. There'd been a couple of others like that, "I have a habit of scaring them away somehow. Don't let go of Bill, Fleur. He makes you glow. That could be the dress, though."
He tilted his head, "Please?”
Fleur smiled brightly at the mention of Bill’s name, it was something she could not help. “I do not plan on ever letting him go,” at least not unless he wanted to be let go. “Sounds silly because we have only been dating a few months but I would be happy with having him forever.” She knew a lot of people thought they were moving too fast in their relationship but it worked for them.
“See bet you would not have thought you would have longer relationships than I did.” She said with a shrug. There were a few people that were notable but most of her relationships had been flings. “I had one guy, Mathieu, that was just rough and I swore I would never date again after him.”
“Were yours that bad?” Fleur asked as she reached into her bag and pulled out a thing of grapes. She offered both those and some chocolate chip cookies up for Jim to choose from.
"A couple of them I had issues committing," Jim admitted. He didn't like the idea of anyone being rough with Fleur. She deserved better, and not just because she was pretty.
"But Isabela took off one night. Bought a ship and just sailed away," Jim continued, shrugging a shoulder. "I knew going in she might be flighty, but...Things seemed to be going really well. And then Janice jumped all over a job offer."
Shrugging his shoulders, he turned the subject back onto her, he said, "Do something radical, be the one that asks HIM to marry you."
Fleur sighed and shrugged her shoulders, “Seems like a lot of people do.” She was one of them usually. “I am sure you will find someone that does not one of these days. Someone that you cannot scare away quite so easily.”
“Sorry it didn’t work out,” and she was because she knew Jim’s reputation wasn’t who he was. He had always been more than terrific with her and she knew he wouldn’t ever do half the people thought he would. He was a good guy. “But a ship? Sailing is a bit boring. Her life would have been more exciting with you.”
“OH! I could kiss you right now,” She said happily. “How awesome would that be? It sure would surprise him.” There were several possibilities that jumped to her mind. Paris over New Years being the leading one in her mind. It would be romantic.
“Did I ever tell you in our dreams we are engaged?” Fleur said lightly. “I feel like if he ever wants to propose he would feel the need to live up to if not top that and it was pretty amazing.”
"I'm trying hard with Hermione. Letting her set the pace." He grinned, as even if he let her set the pace, he wasn't going to stop flirting and teasing her, "And if Isabela heard you say that..she always compared sailing to sex. Bad if you do it wrong, but when you do it right, there's no better feeling in the world. We'd planned to get a ship and sail..."
"Lets not kiss and say we did," Jim said, winking. "You are? No wonder you were drawn to him like a moth."
Fleur made a face not sure she agreed with that analogy but sailing just wasn’t her. “I prefer to keep my feet on solid ground, thanks.” It had never been her cup of tea but then again she was the type that got sea sick. “I could never do that and not be sick like every day. My parents tried to do a cruise once...” It had been bad.
“Where is your sense of adventure Jim?” Fleur told him a teasing voice knowing that she would never in fact kiss him but it didn’t mean she couldn’t play around. Then she reminded herself she needed to tone it down a bit because she didn’t want to fight with Bill again. “I do not know if it was necessarily that alone... I do not even know how to describe to you how drawn I was to him the instant I saw him.”
"What about airplanes?" He joked. But he understood. Not everyone had the stomach for it. Fleur's adventures would be a different sort, "And my sense of adventure is strong, thanks."
He grinned at her, adding, "Lust at first sight, or were there emotions, too?".
“Only when I have to,” planes she could do when she had to but least on a boat you were not stuck next to two potentially creepy and annoying people for long periods at a time. Fleur liked to have her own space even when traveling.
That was a good question. “Both,” the physical attraction had been the stronger of the two, and her relationship still strong in the physical sense but there had been some emotions there too. “It was kind of like déja vu. Like I already knew him, already cared for him, so I could be so strongly attracted to him.” She shrugged knowing how crazy she sounded.
Jim could imagine the sorts of conversations a woman like Fleur might be forced into on an airplane. He nodded his head, "I've noticed similar feelings with people from my dreams. Less lust, since they're mostly men."
“Funny how that works n’est-ce pas?” Fleur said as she offered him a cookie. “I mean the whole dream thing is just odd,” she really didn’t know how else to put it. There had been too many things to be pure coincidence but she still wasn’t sure what else to make of it.
“Maybe we are just meant to find these people for whatever reason and the connections are there from somewhere else or something,” now she was sounding too metaphysical for her own liking.
"Odd, but not impossible. If you think of it as some kind of leak or shared consciousness with another world. Perhaps some kind of other dimension. If others share that consciousness then the connections not only make sense, but they have to be there."
Jim took the cookie and chewed on it a moment, "The closest thing to fate there is."
“Makes sense when you put it like that,” Fleur admitted softly trying not to think on it too much. If she sat and thought on it, it would probably give her a headache. It wasn’t like the connections were a bad thing, especially when it came to Bill, so she wasn’t going to question it.
“You still owe me a moon rock by the way,” she told him with a grin. She hadn’t forgotten it had just been awhile since she had seen him.
Time travel generally gave people headaches, and multi-dimensional travel wasn't much different. Jim preferred not to think about it. When he did, he tended to long for something he simply couldn't have. Jim flashed her a grin, "We could swing by my place and I can get you yours, Fleur. I made sure to set it aside so I wouldn't give it away."
"Perfect. Lets do that." She had to admit she was curious to see what a moon rock looked like. It was nice of him to set it aside for her even after all this time. "Way out food can settle before we go running around."
"Your place clean or a messy bachelor pad?"
"Pretty clean," He replied, getting to his feet. "I've picked up recently and I've got a lot of old books and star charts laying around. Some ship things." He flashed her a grin, "Boring ship things."
Fleur nodded as she followed Jim. "Yeah, all that boring stuff. I mean who would want to know constellations and stuff." Fleur told him with a grin. "I should have a star named after you for Christmas."
"How do you know there isn't one?" Jim grinned at Fleur, opening the door of his car for her. Somewhere, a camera shutter clicked quietly, the sound lost in the traffic, "Besides, I think your name has a more cosmic ring to it."
Fleur rested her hand on the top of the door as she turned to look at Jim, giving him a smile. "I don't. Do you? She slipped gracefully into his car.
"Then we will name the star after me since I sparkle any how," she told him after he was behind the wheel.
"You sparkle like a star and dance like the planets," Jim assured her. "And are quite adept at capturing moons with your allure." He paused, "Bill would be a terrible name for a moon. Almost as bad as Jim!"
She couldn't help but laugh at his last comment, "Then maybe I should find a new moon that has a better name. I mean names are important and we know all the best planets have moons."
Fleur reached out and played with the radio. It was just how it worked for them: Jim drove and she played with the radio. Not that she ever left it on one station for very long.
Jim parked in front of his apartment, and got out. He opened the door for Fleur and offered her his hand, and said, "Maybe I'll show you a few other things too."
Nothing bad, of course. Just some things in his apartment. He led her up the stairs.
“Only maybe?” She teased knowing that he would show her or he wouldn’t have told her that. Fleur let him lead her upstairs curious to what it was he had to show her.
