Quentin was a disaster today. Between burning himself on his toast, spilling his drink on his shirt so he had to change last minute, and now? Well, now, he’d gone and caused a complete mess in the local supermarket by accidentally knocking into a toilet roll display.
Honestly he should just go back to bed and start this day over.
Or not.
Either or.
A curse escaped him as one roll made a break for freedom and on hands and knees he went after it.
Caleb was minding his own business as he shopped around for something to make for dinner, but he heard the noise of things falling to the ground and found himself going to see what happened. What he discovered was toilet paper rolls all over the place and a poor guy on his knees trying to fix the situation. One was starting to escape and Caleb quickly crossed over to stop it with his foot and leaned down to pick it up. He held it out for the man, "You doing okay? Oh wait, I've met you before." It clicked that this was Alex's friend who had come to the club one night, but he hadn't seen him since.
Quentin grimaced faintly as somebody had stepped in to stop his wayward toilet roll and he honestly wished the ground would just swallow him up already especially as he clasped eyes on a familiar face. Caleb. That was his name. Alex’s friend. The same friend that had spent most of the night flirting up a storm with the other man.
“Uh, yeah,” he replied as he took the toilet roll with a grateful smile. “Quentin.” He snagged another toilet roll. “Caleb right?”
Caleb felt a little awkward that he couldn't remember Quentin's name right away, but he had been focused on Alex that first night, so he deemed it understandable. "Yeah, you're better with names than I am. It's nice to see you again, although I'm pretty sure this is probably not your ideal run-in with someone. Did the Charmin bear try to start a fight?"
“Yeah, no, this is not ideal.” Quentin admitted with a rueful chuckle as his hand lifted to rub at the back of his head. He blew out a breath and turned to regard the chaos left in his wake, an apologetic expression crossing his features as an employee moved forward to help.
It took him a moment to realise that Caleb had said something and he lifted his eyebrows. “Yeah, something like that.”
"It's okay, I promise not to judge," Caleb commented solemnly as he moved to help out with gathering up all the toilet paper that tumbled to the floor, "Once I trying to carry a birthday cake out of the place, tripped on something, and sent it flying onto the floor. Thankfully they let me get a new one." He had made sure not to go into that grocery store for about a month.
Quentin shot Caleb a small smile. "Thanks, appreciate that." He did look taken aback when Caleb admitted to his less than composed adventure with a birthday cake and he gave a small laugh before he realised what had happened. "Well, look on the bright side, at least you didn't faceplant into the cake."
"I'm just lucky I didn't slip it and injure myself severly. That frosting can be a bitch," Caleb commented with a laugh. It would have been his luck if he slipped, broke his ankle, and then had to sit around and wait for an ambulance, "But also very glad my face did not get covered in cake."
"Yeah, definitely," Quentin agreed with a nod of his head. He picked up a couple more stray rolls of toilet paper and added them to the stack that he'd previously knocked over. "I think that's all of them unless you can see any other ones that might have made a run for it?"
"I don't think I see any," Caleb did a quick look around as the employee finally came upon them. He reached a hand out to help Quentin get up off the floor, "Someone else will wonder what's going on if they happen to find a stray toilet paper roll, it'll be hilarious."
Quentin gave a small chuckle at that and lifted a hand to rub at the back of his neck. “That would be quite the story.” When Caleb offered his hand Quentin reached up to readily and happily accept it, using that firm grip to pull himself to his feet.
"I hope the rest of your day is free from knocking things over," Caleb commented with a smile as he grabbed his shopping basket that he had set off to the side.
"Thanks, appreciate that," Quentin said as he brushed his hands off on his jeans. Maybe he should give up on shopping and head back home though one of the reasons he'd gotten out of the house was to shake off the effects of the dreams. Some of those really stuck with you.
"You're welcome. I better finish grabbing items for dinner. I'll see you around though," Caleb flashed Quentin a smile. The guy seemed nice enough and he hoped that it wouldn't be the last he saw of him. He was happy to help, but now he needed to do some quick shopping to get dinner started on time tonight.
