"Heeeeeey... it's you..."
Who: Lin, Korra
What: Lin rescues Korra from a drunken frat party.
When: After this drunken text last week.
Where: Somewhere in Huntington Beach, then Lin's place.
Ratings/Warnings: PG-13 for drunks, showers, UST and frat boys being frat boys.
Status: Complete!
Lin pulled up in front of what looked like a frat house. She frowned, and got out of the car. The music was loud, and obnoxious, and she was tempted to cite them for disturbing the peace.
Why not.
She knocked on the door, loudly.
The door was soon opened by a shirtless guy in a feather boa with a top hat on his head. His arm was draped over a woman's shoulders, and beers were in his hand.
He looked Lin up and down, and then shouted, "WHO ORDERED THE STRIPPER SHE'S LIKE WAY OLD YOU GUYS!"
Lin's fist snapped out, smacking the boy upside the head. Then she grabbed his hair and flipped him onto his back and jabbed her foot into his ribs, "What was that, punk?"
The little punk only groaned in response, and the woman he'd been leaning on scattered. Other people at the party made a circle around them, most of them staring, some cheering.
One of the guys walked up and held up his hands, "Hey Lady, we don't want any trouble, but you've like totally got the wrong house."
"Korra?" Lin asked, pushing the kid out of the way and walking in, "I'm here for the girl who made the earth move, and is too fucking young to be drunk. So you really have two choices. Bring me Korra, and I just site for noise. Don't, and I bring your in for giving liquor to a minor."
"THAT bitch? She didn't just make the earth move... man... she like... burned one of my friends, and clobbered the fuck out of him with some ice and ... we locked her in the back bedroom, she was WAY too much trouble for our tastes," One of the guys spoke up and said. He didn't really mention what tastes he was talking about, and started leading Lin into the back of the house.
The punk on the floor got up and sputtered some insults at Lin, but mostly they were drunken mumbling and they were hard to make out.
The rest of the crowd started parting away from Lin as they figured out she was a police officer.
She resisted the urge to use unnecessary force on the guy. She wanted to shove his face into the wall, "Close enough."
Then she broke the lock with her fist and kicked the door open, "KORRA!"
Korra had curled up to take a little nap in the closet while waiting for Lin, but the bellowing was definitely enough to wake her up. She slid open the door to the closet, and poked her head out, "Heeeeeey... it's you..."
"Get up, lets get out of here before I start arresting people." Lin pulled Korra to her feet, trying not to notice the cleavage or Korra's bare legs. It was how the girl managed to irritate her, that was the problem. That's all.
"Yes ma'am, on my feet..." Korra stumbled a bit when Lin got her to her feet, and grabbed on to the older woman to steady herself. It was her own fault for drinking this much, but she'd just been having fun and had really lost track of how many of whatever it was they'd given her.
Lin moved Korra's hand off her breast and then started to guide her out the door and through the frat house. She wondered if she'd have to carry Korra out.
No one was carrying Korra anywhere! Korra was too awesome to be carried, and totally had this. Or at least, she was desperately trying to remember how her feet worked. It took most of her concentration.
The frat members and their party guests gave them a wide berth as they headed for the door.
The door slammed behind them, and Lin had to lift Korra up a little higher in order to clear the steps. She dragged her down the path towards the car, "Why, Korra? You know they just wanted to get into your swim suit."
She propped her up against the car.
"Because... because... I don't know, I don't... Maybe I wanted them into my swim suit, or maybe I was just tired of being... you know..." Korra waved a hand over her head, and nearly knocked herself over in the process, "... avatar is all... lonely and stuff, and... friends."
"You can make friends in better ways. Why don't you ask someone on the valarnet? I'm a better choice than those punks." She jerked her thumb back at the frat house, "You're better than that."
"They were there, they liked me, it was... you know... it was nice." Korra pulled her legs up against her chest and curled up in the car, then shut her eyes, "Think... pretty sure I saw them slipping things, you know... people's drinks. I freaked out... sure didn't make any friends that way."
She shut her eyes and shook her head, "I'm not awesome. I'm ... so not awesome."
Lin closed the door, went around to the other side, and got in. She started the car, then looked at Korra, "What am I going to do with you? Tenzin is going to blow his lid."
Of course, that might almost be some entertainment. Some wonderful, wonderful entertainment. Lin put a hand on Korra's leg, "You try too hard."
"It shouldn't be that hard, you know?" Korra shrugged a shoulder. Her stomach lurched a bit, and she squeezed her eyes shut more, "I just... I don't even know. I'm stupid, but I can't tell Tenzin, can you maybe just... uncle iroh maybe has a couch or... somewhere..."
Lin rubbed her leg, then retrieved her hand and started to drive, "I'm taking you back to my place. We'll sober you up, and then figure out what to tell Tenzin."
Korra sighed, "I'm going to ... be grounded for the rest of my life."
And why did the leg rubbing feel so good. God she was so confused.
“Probably,” Lin replied, sending in something to have someone go down to the frat house. God only knew what they were feeding those girls. She wondered the same question, about legs, as she got onto the freeway, “You’re going to hate tomorrow.”
"Probably..." Korra trailed off, and then let out a long sigh, "Do you ever wish... do you ever... I'm so confused, you know? You make me think things..."
Lin's hands tightened on the steering wheel, "Do I ever wish what?" She glanced askew at Korra, "You're young, you'll be confused until you're eighty. Trust me."
"That kinda means... hey, that kind of means you're confused still too though... doesn't it?" Korra cracked an eye open and looked at Lin, "Because you're, you know... so not eighty yet, nowhere near it..."
"I left myself open for a dig and you didn't take it," Lin said, sounding impressed. It was dark, but maybe a blush crept up her face, "I'm a little confused in places. I don't like the feeling. I prefer rock solid ground."
"What are you confused about, lady lady?" Korra patted Lin's arm a bit, trying to be reassuring. Because really, what could Lin possibly be confused about? She always seemed so set in her ways to Korra.
"Myself. My place in life." Her job was her only real constant, and then that was a constant of 'always being passed over for promotion’, but now...She was just a detective, her prime behind her.
"I dream of being a chief, with incredible power and a rich history. But I also dream of being alone. I don't get Tenzin in either place. And then you..."
"Don't understand why you hate me so much, really... except if I puke in your car, then you might have a reason... and I might..." Korra was nothing if not honest. Most of the time.
Lin's voice was gentle, and a little bit apologetic, "I don't hate you, Korra. You frustrate me. And I don't like people thinking they own a place or can just jump in and cause problems."
And she was confused in other ways she refused to admit. Because Korra was too young to be attractive.
"I didn't think I owned it you know, I just... saw bad going on, and I said... hey, it's my job to fix the bad." Korra went back to closing her eyes. It was better when she closed her eyes, the car felt less like it was in motion then.
The attraction was obviously there, though. Korra felt it on her end, too, and that's what had her so confused lately. In her dreams she liked guys. Didn't she? That firebender specifically...
There'd been a girl too, but Lin couldn't remember her name. She sighed, continuing to talk around the attraction subject, "It's not your job to fix the bad. Or it wasn't yet. You can't just go vigilante, and I hope you're not considering it here. There's enough of that going on."
"Not here, no... I mean hell, every time I even mildly waterbend everyone freaks out at me, so..." Korra shrugged a shoulder, "This place isn't the same place, I don't think ... the avatar isn't a big deal here."
"Maybe the Avatar will be, some day." Lin put her hand on Korra's shoulder, "There was that furry invasion. Things are out of balance. But that's something to worry about for another day."
Korra rested her head against Lin's hand, "Maybe I don't want to be a big deal here... it's hard, you know... lots of pressure. I'm so not awesome... I don't really fit in here. I don't fit at all."
She'd felt like that for most of her life, but she'd always pushed through it before. By being loud, and friendly, and good at stuff, she'd managed to be minorly popular in school, but she'd still had plenty of enemies. As it turned out, being awesome wasn't really that awesome at all.
Lin parked, turning the car off. It ticked and creaked as the engine started to cool down. She turned to Korra, then changed her mind and got out of the car. She hauled Korra out of the car, then guided her inside her apartment.
She propped Korra against the wall and closed the door, locking it, "You'll find a way to fit in. You always do."
"This isn't Republic City..." Korra leaned back against the wall, letting her arms dangle down to either side of her and looking up at the ceiling, "This' a nice apartment you got here..."
"You're so out of it. Come on. Lets get you out of that and into bed. Or maybe the shower to sober up." She put an arm around Korra. This was a bad idea, she should have taken her to Iroh.
Korra giggled, "You just want me out of my clothing."
They'd been dancing around the attraction issue all night, of course, but Korra was too tired and too drunk to keep that dance up for long. She wasn't all that subtle in her day to day life, either.
"No," Lin replied, focusing her eyes down the hallway instead of at Korra. She was going to continue to dance around it. Because it wasn't happening, "I just want you comfortable. And you can't sleep in that. It's still a little damp."
It was probably good that Lin was focusing her eyes down the hallway, because Korra had already begun the attempts to get herself out of the swimsuit she'd been wearing, and drunken coordination wasn't her strong suit.
She was half-nakedly fumbling at the thing while trying to speak, "S'cus I got ... I think beer on it, not sure... well it was wet stuff, whatever it was..."
"...we're putting you in the shower," Lin said, shuddering. She veered Korra into the bathroom, and sat her down on the toilet. "Wait here."
She walked out to get a towel and robe for Korra.
Korra stayed where she'd been sat, still trying to figure out how to get out of her swimsuit. There'd been some Lady Gaga song or other at the party she'd been dragged to, and she started singing to herself while trying to pull the swimsuit down her legs.
While still remaining seated. It didn't work very well.
Lin came back in, and sighed. She helped Korra back into a sitting position, "Spread your legs out." She located the zipper on the suit and pulled it down, then started to tug it off of Korra. She paid very close attention to the suit, and not the skin being slowly revealed. That didn’t stop her from feeling incredibly warm and a little dizzy.
The younger woman started giggling hysterically, then pointed her finger at Lin, "You wan' me to spread my legs, eh?"
To be fair, Lin had probably walked right into that one, but it didn't make the situation any easier for anyone. And Korra went right on ahead and spread them for Lin, though of course only until the swimsuit was off of her. Then she was sitting there, in all of her naked glory, on Lin's toilet.
And trying very hard in her state not to kiss Lin. Something told her that wouldn't be well received. She tucked some hair behind her ear and fought the urge back, "Sorry, hey, just dump me... in the shower, I'll be good. Swears."
"You can't even stand," Lin replied, steadfastly looking anywhere but Korra's caramel skin, as she tried to figure out how to get Korra into that shower without getting soaking wet, herself. And without letting Korra fall over.
She resigned herself to getting her clothing wet. She leaned into the shower and turned it on, then turned back to Korra, "Okay. Up we go."
Lin was going to be happy that she kept her clothing on, because as soon as Korra had managed to get back on her feet she was flailing all over Lin, a process which would have been even more awkward otherwise. The girl finally managed to balance herself by wrapping her arms around Lin's neck and hanging on for dear life.
That only made it harder to resist the urge to kiss her, really. Korra chewed on her lip, instead. What she really wanted, she told herself, was for Lin to be far, far away from her. That probably wasn't going to happen when she could barely stand. But after this? She made a drunken resolution to never speak to Lin again after she was sober.
She also made a drunken resolution to stay sober. Being drunk hadn't been fun so far and she had no idea why kids did this every weekend.
Lin held on tight, hands pressing hard against Korra's back and hip. She closed her eyes, and let out a silent prayer that she NOT go to the special hell. Carefully, she guided Korra into the shower, under really cold water. Cold water to sober her up. Then she would give her warm water to warm up.
"Okay, just try to stay up straight."
Korra started shivering immediately as the cold water poured down on top of them. She started to resemble a drowned rat, and simply nodded.
Lin rubbed Korra's back, closing her eyes and fighting back her own shivering. Her teeth started to chatter, "Feeling better?"
"Mostly feeling... c-c-cold..." Korra replied, through chattering teeth. She was clinging onto Lin, not only for dear life anymore, but also because she was WARM.
Lin turned the water to warm, and rubbed her hands up and down Korra’s back. To keep her warm, and warm herself up, and some part of herself admitted she needed the contact.
Korra had been about 30 seconds away from waterbending the water so it didn't hit them anymore, but when the warm water hit, she just wanted to languish in it forever. She leaned heavily against Lin and let out a purring noise.
"God," Lin rasped, as Korra's purr reverberated through her throat and chest, "Okayletsgetyoudriedup."
"Nnghuh-uh, water warm, very nice, stay water." Korra purred.
"Yes, very nice water, Korra." Lin tried to extract herself from the Avatar, so Korra could stay in the very warm water and Lin could strip and dry off. At least that was the idea.
The Avatar was having none of that, still half wrapped around Lin as she was. And very, very sleepy. She smacked her lips a bit and closed her eyes, "Nice water."
Lin solved the problem by changing the water back to cold, hoping it would force Korra to jump out of the shower.
"GAH COLD!" Korra's eyes flew open and she held out both hands, stopping the flow of the water around her completely, "THAT is not nice water."
She glared daggers at Lin, the interrupter of the nice warm shower, "That was completely unnecessary."
"You were falling asleep in my arms," Lin said accusingly. The effect of Korra pressed against her, with the water bending over her head and away from their bodies made her more irritable. Only mostly because of her reaction to it, "It's time to get out of the shower."
"Oh. Why didn't you say so?" Korra bended some water around the faucet to turn it off, then bended most of the water off of the two of them, "There... Cold water, very sobering."
Lin's eyes followed the entire display, then she closed her eyes and exhaled shakily, "I forget you can do that."
"It's one of the handier parts of waterbending," Korra was definitely feeling a lot less out of it, though she was still tired enough that if warm water was still pouring over her she'd probably be asleep on Lin already.
She yawned, and looked around for a towel, "I can't get the water out of hair as easily."
Lin started unbuttoning her shirt, shrugging it off and tossing it into the tub. Korra hadn't been able to bend the water out of Lin's clothing, and her skin was damp underneath it. Her bra clung to her, and that joined the shirt, followed quickly by the rest of her clothing.
She sighed in relief, and reached for a towel. She'd kept her eyes closed the whole time.
The person in the room who did not have her eyes closed had paused in the middle of drying her hair, towel still on head, and was still staring at Lin when her eyes reopened.
Lin might have been much older than her, but she was cut for an older lady. Korra was impressed.
Lin glanced at Korra, then started to dry her hair and damp skin from the clothing, moving her eyes somewhere else. Anywhere that wasn't Korra. Her muscles were very tense, "You can have the bed, I'll take the couch."
Korra finished drying her hair, and made a face at her, "No way, I can take the couch."
"The couch is fine, you take the bed," Lin insisted, folding her arms over her bare chest stubbornly.
"I'm not stealing your bed away from you Lady, I owe you enough." Korra insisted, while stepping out of the shower.
"Fine," Lin replied, and brushed past Korra. A shiver ran through her body, but she wrapped the towel around herself and kept right on walking, beelining to the bedroom, "I'll make you some hangover tea in the morning."
She closed the door behind her.
"Tea. Just what I always wanted." Korra mumbled. She watched Lin go, then shrugged, tossed her towel over the shower rod, and headed for the couch. There was a blanket there she could curl up in, at least.
