Seeing his dad out in public always made him feel weird. He knew he was a bad son, that he should make more of an effort with his old man. But he was a product of his upbringing. If his dad had been more of a dad, maybe he'd be more of a son. It was easy to think that way, to put the blame almost entirely on his dad, but Forsythe Jughead knew that wasn't entirely fair.
He was almost 18, now. Almost an adult. He was old enough to accept responsibility for himself and for his choices. He chose not to make the effort with his dad. He knew it would be futile to try. And it was easier, way easier not to bother. So he didn't. And that was on him.
He was doing just fine without his dad, anyway. He'd been on his own for six years. Ever since he was eleven years old. And soon he'd be an adult, officially, and it wouldn't matter anymore. He was really looking forward to that day.
He sighed and turned away, ducking into the nearest shop before his dad saw him. The last thing he wanted was to engage in small talk with the man. Instead he body slammed someone who was exiting the shop just as he tried to slip inside. Great. "Sorry," he muttered an apology and hoped that would be the end of it.
