The day was young and the sun was only just peeking out from behind the sleepy darkness of the LA night but there was definitely stirring in the shared home of Valenti and Manes, but not in the form it normally took. Instead it was at least six foot, dark haired, lithely muscled, heavily tattooed, pierced and with a pair of startling blue eyes that could stir even the most unaffected into action and also apparently very comfortable in the kitchen clad in nothing more than a dark pair of boxer briefs that clung scandalously to a well defined pair of hips.
Coffee, it was a definite need.
Teeth slid out on a lower lip and caught on the piercing through the edge of his bottom lip as the dark haired stranger helped himself to a mug and went about putting on a new pot of coffee, ringed fingers idly scratching at his side before smoothing over the side of his neck.
A yawn caught him unaware before it was accompanied by a slow languid stretch.
Alex had walked in from the garden through the back door to a sight he was not expecting. He was barefoot, having yanked on an Air-Force t-shirt and baggy sweatpants with bed-hair and his glasses on when it struck him just how unprepared he was to run into one of the most handsome, alternative looking guys he'd seen in his entire life. Half-naked in Kyle's kitchen. Half-naked with hair that looked like it had hands pushed through it and a hickey on his collarbone, and another just under his ribcage, and yet another on the sharp line of his hip that told Alex immediately that he had stayed over the night before for reasons that were most definitely not a bro night in.
His breath caught in the back of his throat and he cleared it if not just to let the guy know he was there.
"Morning."
The dark haired stranger in the kitchen turned rather sharply on his heels when an unfamiliar voice greeted him before he offered a slightly apologetic bashful grin as he hadn't been expecting to run into anyone else. Apparently Kyle had forgotten he now had somebody sharing his space.
"Morning," he said in return, voice deep and with a distinct gravelly tone to it.
He cleared his throat and stepped forward to offer a hand. "I'm Seth, you must be... Alex?"
Alex's eyebrows lifted in surprise that the stranger - Seth - knew his name. As well as knowing his way around Kyle's kitchen. He took the hand as it was offered, giving a firm handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Seth," he said, proud of the way that his eyes absolutely didn't do a sweep of the other man's body as he moved forward - even if he noticed the sharp definition of the other man's torso because how could he not? He was only human, after all. And Seth was attractive in an unconventional sort of way. The remains of eye-liner were smudged underneath one eye. "Sorry- Kyle didn't tell me he had company, I'd have gone out for coffee instead."
Seth chuckled and tipped his head to unapologetically check Alex out because he had eyes and he'd be remiss if he didn't at least take a moment to appreciate the sight in front of him. "You too, Alex." He waved his hand and shook his head. "Don't worry about it, didn't actually plan to end up back here."
And they really hadn't but these things happened.
"I'm actually making some fresh coffee right now, how do you take it?" He padded back over to a nearby cupboard and rummaged out another cup.
"Uh- black," Alex said, still trying to wrap his head around the fact that there was a very scantily dressed man in his and Kyle's kitchen (and he knew it was wrong but he felt the tiniest bit territorial and he hadn't had any coffee yet which meant any kind of proper geniality was right out the window for him). "Thanks."
Biscuit wandered past, licked Seth's calf like she knew him and then stopped beside Alex, sitting next to him with her tail enthusiastically wagging as she bumped his thigh with her nose until he reached down to scratch behind her ears.
"Hey gorgeous," Seth said warmly as Biscuit licked his calf and padded over to settle beside Alex. He poured out a black coffee for Alex and offered him the cup before he turned back around to make up his own. He stopped for a moment and rummaged out another cup, seemingly making up another cup. Presumably for Kyle and it looked like he knew how the other man took it.
Seth idly scratched at his hip, right over the mark there, before he sipped at his coffee. "Anyways, I should probably get dressed and get on my way."
Alex took the cup and watched Seth for a moment longer before he was shaking his head. "I- uh, no," he waved his hand, taking a sip of his coffee and taking half a step backwards. "Not if you don't gotta rush out. I'll head back to the- where I stay. Say g'morning to Kyle for me."
Because he might be surprised, but he wasn't about to be a total asshole to Kyle's boyfriend? Casual sex friend? God only knew. It was somewhat short circuiting Alex's pre-coffee brain.
And then speak of the devil Kyle appeared. Thankfully more clothed than his counterpart but not by much. T-shirt and boxer briefs. It dawned on him that as he approached the kitchen that Seth wasn’t alone which meant he was talking to Alex.
Shit.
He at least had the decency to look a little sheepish as he rubbed a hand through his hair. “Morning,” he rumbled as he took the coffee passed over to him by Seth before he breezed past in the direction of the stairs. “It was nice meeting you, Alex.”
Alex's already short-circuting brain didn't need to see Kyle, sleepy with just-fucked bed-head. He didn't need to see the easy, casual way that Seth's fingers trailed along Kyle's clothed stomach with the kind of familiarity that told Alex this definitely wasn't the first - or even second - time that this had happened. He just hummed something non-committal in the direction of Seth's naked, tattooed (and okay, yes, nice) back and focused his gaze on Kyle.
Or he did for a moment but the knowledge of what happened the night before made Alex's ears go pink.
He sipped his coffee. "So Seth, huh?"
Kyle cleared his throat and dropped his hand to squeeze the back of his neck before he took a slow sip of his coffee as he worked out how best to reply.
"He's a good guy," he shared as he briefly rubbed his hands over Biscuit's ears and he leaned back against the nearby counter. "He just got back into town." He honestly hadn't wanted this to be the way that Alex found out about his... well, not a change of sexuality, but rather a more honest approach to how he was in general, experimentation in college had definitely opened Kyle's eyes to things.
"He looks it," Alex deadpanned. Honestly, he'd never have considered that even if Kyle was into guys, he'd be into ones that looked as though they'd stepped out of an emo band. He lifted his shoulder, forcing a non-chalance that he wasn't entirely sure that he felt. "When did that happen?"
Kyle exhaled a breath before placing his coffee on the side where his hands slipped out to curl around the edges of the counter and he passed his tongue over his lower lip. "Well, Seth didn't happen until I got home, met him at the beach."
He shrugged his shoulders and folded his arms over his chest. "But uh, college. That was the first time."
"College?" Alex asked, ignoring the tug in his chest that felt like misplaced jealousy. How had he not known Kyle was struggling with his sexuality in high school? Or if he wasn't, who was the guy in college that had made him shift his world view? Alex knew he had no right, but there was a part of him that felt like this was wildly unfair. It was irrational, especially given his propensity for playing his cards close to his chest but he'd come out to Kyle first, and that was even with Kyle being the reason Alex had worked out why he wasn't going loopy over Liz the way so many of their friends were.
He rubbed the back of his neck, squeezing it slightly before he shrugged. "And you guys are what, a casual thing?" Since he'd run into a beautiful brunette not too long ago in the kitchen, again. He needed to get coffee making facilities in the guest house, that sold it.
"Yeah, college," Kyle said with a nod. He'd had some inklings when he was younger but college was when he'd felt confident enough to explore them. He definitely hadn't been keeping secrets but rather it had never come up in conversation and he hadn't had a reason to confront the truth since Alex had returned home. He'd admitted to Liz that he had experimented in college but that was about as much as she knew.
He reached out for his coffee and took a slow sip from it.
"Totally casual." Because there were a lot of downsides to being an adult but recreational sex was not one of those things. "Always has been."
Well. That was something. Alex didn't think it should feel like a victory but it kind of did. And that was all kinds of messed up. He raked his fingers through his hair and scratched at his jaw, feeling the stubble coming through. He needed to shave. Definitely not the best look to have greeted some handsome stranger in the kitchen sporting.
"That your choice or his?" he asked, more curious than anything else. Alex longed for the ability to do something casual, just to get some of the tension out of his system in a way that didn't involve feelings, but he learned pretty quickly that he wasn't good at that.
"Mutual decision," Kyle shared. "He travels a lot and my work is kinda my first love so..." His shoulders lifted and another sip was taken from his coffee. "And we both know as much as fun as we have together that isn't the sort of thing that can go from the bedroom to anywhere else really."
He pushed away from the side and helped himself to an apple from the nearby fruit bowl.
Alex nodded his head, rubbed behind his ear and lifted a shoulder. "Yeah- okay. Well, that's good. Good for you guys." He wet his lower lip and curled his hands around his coffee. "I'll- uh- you can- have a good morning." He turned on the spot, intending on fleeing back to the guest house so he could process this privately.
Kyle debated whether or not he should stop Alex but he figured he'd given him enough of a shock for one day without forcing him to talk about the atmosphere hanging between them. Definitely a conversation for another time. "You want to grab some dinner later?"
Alex's eyebrow lifted, lips tugging into something that was approaching a smile as he turned to look over his shoulder at Kyle before he asked, "You sure you're not gonna be... otherwise occupied?"
Kyle snorted and shook his head. "Yeah, no." He sipped at his coffee and smiled over at Alex. "So, dinner, yeah?"
"Sure, dinner." Alex responded with a nod, throwing a "have a good morning," over his shoulder.
