It was a little surreal to dream about something that hadn't actually happened in his real life, but was fully set in the dream universe he had been getting used to. The dream was starting to fade, but it was him and his friends going to the Spenser bonfire. While there he met two new people, Sarah and Chase, and then the cops came which resulted in them trying to escape and lots of power usage. It was exhilarating to dream about the car going off the cliff then using their power to lift them up and land behind the cops. They were totally those teenage shits, but it worked and they escaped. He could sense that something was going to happen with Sarah in the dreams, but he didn't want to focus on that anymore. The dream was swimming away as he rolled over and blearily opened his eyes to see he actual person he was with in real life. They hadn't quite gotten around to figuring out the semantics of their relationship, but Caleb was a bit old fashioned and referred to Pogue in his head as his boyfriend.
It didn't hurt that Pogue was nude with just a sheet covering him in that moment and Caleb leaned over to give that sleeping face a kiss. He had no idea who this Sarah person was in his dreams, but he knew that he had no idea who she was in real life, so it wouldn't really be an issue, but it was encouraging him to maybe mention these dreams to Pogue and feel out the situation. He pulled away from Pogue's face, "Wake up, Sleeping Beauty."
Pogue unlike Caleb hadn’t started to dream though Alex had made some cryptic comment about dreaming that Pogue still didn’t understand but apparently he would in time. That meant that whilst Caleb was bothered by the events of his dreams Pogue by comparison slept the sleep of the dead. Only not as he was and would always be a light sleeper, call it an old habit but it was important to be able to rouse relatively quickly and be able to think clearly.
That meant when Caleb kissed him Pogue stirred and opened his eyes slowly to regard his friend now turned lover, a smirk playing on his lips as he reached up to smooth a hand through Caleb’s hair.
“Morning,” he rumbled, voice thick and heavy with sleep.
That smirk was enough to send a shock of heat through Caleb. He still wasn't quite used to being able to act upon his impure thoughts about Pogue, but the slight hesitation would wear off eventually. For now he just gave Pogue a sleep smile as he closed his eyes to enjoy the sensation of Pogue's fingers in his hair. He felt a bit like a cat as he leaned into the touch. "I've got something to tell you and it's probably to much to talk about in the morning, but hopefully you believe me?" Caleb wasn't going to just sit around on this for much longer because he needed to get it out. This was the perfect time to do it and hopefully Pogue didn't think he was completely insane.
“That doesn’t sound at all ominous,” Pogue drawled with a pointed look before he shifted so he was sat up, back braced against the headboard and sheet barely covering his dignity. “I feel like this is a sitting up conversation so...”
He gestured at his new seated position.
“I am now sat up so let’s hear it.”
"It's not ominous," Caleb countered with a chuckle as he watched Pogue sit up. He reached over to pull the sheet up a little more so it covered Pogue's abs, and explained, "I can't be distracted." Because, let's be honest, those were the ultimate distraction.
"So, you're on the Valar network now and apparently once you join that weird things start to happen. You start having these weird dreams - I have no idea if it's an actual other life or what, but it feels real. I've been having these dreams about the four of us still living in Ipswitch and basically doing the same things, but apparently we're all warlocks and blessed with this Power to pretty much do magic. I couldn't quite decide if I should tell you guys now or wait until you start having these dreams because they'll happen eventually."
Warlocks? Power? Magic? It did sound pretty crazy but this was Caleb and he wasn’t into wild flights of fancy. He was grounded, down to Earth and rational. That meant that Pogue despite his own lack of experience with the dreams and his uncertainty around them believed Caleb when he said he was dreaming what he was.
Plus Alex had mentioned dreams so it couldn’t be a coincidence, right?
Pogue rubbed a hand through his hair before he dragged his fingers though a slight amount of scruff on his cheeks. “How often are you having these dreams?”
"Not super often, a few times a month, but now with all four of us around who knows if it'll increase. I just woke up from one where we went to a Spenser bonfire. Kate was there and then some new people named Sarah and Chase. Then the cops showed up and we drove Reid's cliff off a car and using our powers we somehow made the car fly back up and then land behind the cops before we drove away," Caleb explained. It sounded absolutely insane, but he had dreamt it and it was definitely something he felt he could do now.
"And I've got this Book of Damnation now that details the history of the Power. The Power takes away some of our life force every time we use it and my father used it so much in the dreams he basically became a shell of himself," Caleb leaned over to rifle through his nightstand and pulled out the book before putting it on the bed between them. It was an intimidating book, but Caleb had found it incredibly useful.
Kate? As in his ex-girlfriend Kate? The names Sarah and Chase meant absolutely nothing to Pogue but clearly they did to Caleb. The mention of driving a car off a cliff and using their combined “powers” to make it fly through the air did cause Pogue’s eyebrow to lift because that did sound crazy, really crazy.
“Wait, wha?” Anything he would have asked got cut off when said Book of Damnation was suddenly dropped onto the bed between them. Well, that was very real. Honestly this all sounded like something out of a movie or a book.
He looked at the book and at Caleb then back at the book again. “You were right, this is a lot to take in first thing in the morning.”
"I know...I'm the worst," Caleb admitted with a small shrug of his shoulder as he reached over to take Pogue's hand and gave it a small squeeze, "But I really didn't want you to get mad at me because I didn't warn you about this before it happened. And honestly, I need some help trying to figure out how to tell Reid and Tyler and you're the most rational."
"And I'm about to make it way worse," Caleb explained before he concentrated on opening up the Book of Damnation with his powers. His eyes flashed gold around the pupil before it spread and his entire iris turned black. The book opened in front of them and the pages flipped wildly before settling on the page Caleb had wanted, the one with their names, and then the black disappeared and his eyes returned to normal.
Pogue appreciated Caleb being honest about these dreams even though they were still a little on the surreal wacky side especially as things like magic weren't real, right? He could understand Caleb's reservations about telling Reid and Tyler because Reid was well, Reid, and Tyler was easily led by the other.
Way worse?
Pogue's brow furrowed before he scrambled backwards ever so slightly as Caleb's eyes turned black and the pages turned of their own free will. "What the fuck?!" He uttered sharply when apparently the display of power was over and Pogue's eyes darted between Caleb and that book, the appropriately named Book of Damnation. "Seriously, you trying to give me a heart attack, Caleb? Shit, man. Warn a guy next time."
He wasn't too proud to admit that his heart was racing and he was breathing a little harder than he had been a moment ago.
Caleb wasn't surprised when Pogue scrambled back at the display of the weird powers they had. He reached over to set a hand on Pogue's shoulder to help soothe him. "I couldn't think of a proper way to fully explain what was going to happen. Apparently the powers have started bleeding over into this world once you start dreaming. It's insane, I know, but it's happening."
He gave Pogue a slightly vulnerable book as he admitted he was kind of scared about these powers coming over. It wasn't horrible to have them, but he was scared of the unknown and if the powers would also bring the life force draining that goes with it. He didn't want any of them to die before their time. His fingers flexed slightly on Pogue's shoulder, "I'm sorry I scared you."
Pogue was tense and it took a moment for him to relax under Caleb’s touch but eventually he did. He could tell that Caleb was scared, uncertain and afraid of what having powers might mean.
He swallowed and reached up to squeeze Caleb’s hand on his shoulder.
“So that’s something we all have to look forward to?”
"Yeah.... it's not that bad, but it is kind of freaky at first," Caleb explained before he squeezed Pogue's shoulder to urge him to come a little closer. He looked down at the book and used his free hand to flip a couple pages, "this basically details everything we need to know. I am not sure what will happen with the dreams, but I am kind of glad to not be alone for it."
Pogue could definitely see how it would be freaky. At the encouraging squeeze to his shoulder Pogue did move closer, lessening the distance between him and Caleb.
“Everything?” He queried as he reached out to flip a couple pages, tucking a loose strand of hair behind his ear.
"Pretty much. It seems to be more of a telekinetic power than uttering spells. You kind of concentrate on what you want to happen in your head and it happens," Caleb watched Pogue tuck his hair and smiled. Being able to just openly admire Pogue was something that made him extremely happy now.
"You can definitely take time to look through it. It might help get Tyler and Reid to believe me about things. I don't know if I want to say something now or wait until they have a weird dream."
“That’ll be good for Reid,” Pogue remarked with a smirk as he knew that Reid had very little time or patience for learning and memorising stuff. He glanced up and caught Caleb smiling at him, lifting an eyebrow. “What?”
He would definitely be looking through the book and trying to wrap his head around it in the hopes it would help him deal with the dreams that were coming. Inevitable it seemed like.
“My advice? Tell them ahead of time.”
When Pogue caught him he gave a sly smile and shrugged a little, "Oh nothing." He wanted to gush about how many things he liked about Pogue, but was trying to be a mature adult and not a love struck twink.
"Yeah.... probably a good idea, but you have to come with me."
Pogue nodded his head. "You know I will." Even if they weren't exploring this new dynamic Pogue would still have had Caleb's back when it came to broaching this subject with Reid and Tyler. As close as they were as a group there was definitely a slight divide between the two pairs.
The book itself was pretty thick so Pogue knew for a fact he'd have to set some time aside to look through.
"Thanks," Caleb answered with a grateful smile. He looked thoughtful for a moment before leaning closer to Pogue with a smile, "So I need to make up ruining your morning. Is there anything you want?"
Pogue smirked over at Caleb as he leaned in closer with that smile on his face and he reached up to tangle his fingers in Caleb’s sleep ruffled dark hair. “Fuck yes you need to make it up to me.”
He grinned a second later before he leaned in and caught Caleb’s mouth in a kiss, his free hand catching on his shoulder before it mapped its way down the length of his back.
There were a lot of things that Pogue wanted but everything else paled in comparison to one Caleb Danvers.
That was exactly the response Caleb had been hoping for and his lips widened in a bright smile before Pogue came in for a kiss. Caleb made a happy noise in the back of his throat as he returned the kiss and reached a hand out to push the book out of the way and then draw Pogue in closer.
Things had been extremely hot and heavy between them since they finally figured themselves out and Caleb didn't think he would ever get sick of it. He slipped a hand under the sheets to run it along Pogue's hips. How the hell did he get this lucky?***
Hot and heavy was definitely one way of describing how Caleb and Pogue had been taking forward this new dynamic. Pogue much like Caleb didn't think he'd ever get sick of it especially when it was over and they were both glistening with sweat he could quite confidently say that nobody would ever find half of the bite marks he'd left on Caleb's body. The important thing was that he knew where they were and that by extension expressed to Caleb just how much Pogue wanted him and also how he felt about him, possessive and definitely not wanting to share.
He reached for the edge of the sheet and pulled it over them before simply rolling over onto his side, head propped up in the palm of his hand as his other idly mapped and followed the pathways of muscle and freckles.
"Okay," he admitted gruffly with a smile playing over his lips. "I think you made it up to me."
Caleb hadn't been with someone who left as many bite marks as Pogue did. It wasn't a bad thing and Caleb was surprised by how much he enjoyed it. He liked being Pogue's...whatever they were. He was finally in a relationship that actually felt right. Caleb just didn't leave his mark on Pogue in a physical way was more of the sweet attentive part of the relationship.
Every muscle Pogue's hand touched twitched underneath him and Caleb let out a huff of a laugh at the comment. He leaned over to chastely kiss that smile before pulling back, "That's what I like to hear. I mean if I have to ruin your morning more to get that result then I definitely will."
After a moment he reached down to trace his fingers along the back of Pogue's hand that explored his body. "Pogue...." his voice held just a hint of shyness as he locked eyes with him, "what do you want to call this?"
Pogue's hand stilled when Caleb asked what he did and he pulled the edge of his lower lip into his mouth as Caleb made eye contact with him. Labels, they were scary, but honestly nowhere near as scary as not having this and not having Caleb and just because he'd managed to screw up every other relationship he'd ever had didn't automatically mean he'd do it with Caleb.
Only, what if he did?
Pogue was by most accounts a highly confident outgoing individual with a very much devil may care approach to the world but he was plagued by insecurities, most of which stemmed from his upbringing and the detrimental impact that it had on his self confidence and more importantly his self worth. He valued Caleb and his other friends more than his own life, Caleb especially.
He swallowed hard and lifted his shoulders. "Well, I'm not seeing anybody else." He brushed his thumb along Caleb's side. "And I'm not intending to."
That was the one thing about dating your best friend; they pretty much knew all about your insecurities. Caleb knew Pogue extremely well and they were both really good at keeping communication open between them, so Caleb had no intention of letting this relationship get screwed up. Not when he had been hoping for it for far longer than he cared to admit. He knew this was a big ask of Pogue to figure it out, but Caleb wanted to make sure he wasn't crossing any weird boundaries.
At Pogue's admission he removed his hand from Pogue's and moved it to cup the other man's cheek. God, he was so beautiful. Caleb gave him a nod and a shy smile, "You already know you've got me all to yourself. Now the big question, are we going to be nauseating adorable and call each other boyfriends?"
Pogue turned his face into Caleb's hand and lifted his own hand to curl around his wrist, a distinct press of his lips against Caleb's palm could be felt. He'd been with a lot of people and that was no secret but he'd never felt anything like this and the only way he could describe it was as feeling right and he was where he belonged.
"That is pretty nauseating," he admitted with a laugh. "But I don't know what other word we'd use to describe this."
That kiss on his palm brought a smile to his face and Caleb still couldn't believe how easy this felt. They just slipped easily into the role of lovers after years of being friends. He really didn't want anything to screw this up because it was quite possibly the best relationship he would ever have.
That smile stayed on his face when he let out a laugh and leaned closer to Pogue's face, just hovering above his lips, "That's a good point, boyfriend. I mean we could use lover or suitor or bae."
Pogue arched an eyebrow in response to the suggestions. “You call me any of those things and I’m totally not having sex with you.” His lips curled into a smirk as he tipped his head and traced the angular planes of Caleb’s face with his eyes.
Caleb let his face contort into feigned shock, "You wouldn't! How dare you hate my ideas enough for that." When he couldn't keep it up any longer he let out a laugh and leaned in to kiss Pogue. All the man had to do was look at him and Caleb would give him everything he wanted.
Pogue snorted and had been about to reply but then Caleb was kissing him so he definitely had better things to be doing with his mouth. He ran his fingers back through Caleb’s hair and took his time with fully acquainting himself with the other man’s mouth and how he tasted. He’d done it a lot since that night out but Pogue didn’t think he’d ever get tired of doing it over and over again.
Thankfully Caleb felt the same way about Pogue. He wanted nothing more than to just spend forever in a bed with Pogue, but his stomach decided to make a rumble and indicate that it was probably time for some food. He reluctantly pulled away from Pogue with a laugh, "I think we should probably get out of this bed and get something to eat. What do you want? Make something here, order delivery?" He was tempted to torture Pogue a little as he thought, but he knew his kind of torture would lead to more sex and they would never get out of this bed, so Caleb caught his lip with his teeth while he waited.
“Or we could go out?” Pogue suggested. “Might do us some good to get out of bed and the apartment.” He playfully pushed Caleb over into his back and slipped out of bed before catching on the discarded briefs, slipping them on and letting them settle around the curves of his hips.
“I’m feeling pizza, you?”
Caleb let out a whine as Pogue pushed him and then declared that they should go out of the apartment. "Ugh, going out is so much work. Besides, then you have to wear clothes and I'm a big fan of you not wearing clothes." He propped himself up on his elbows as he watched Pogue get out of the bed and put on his briefs.
Caleb was about to call Pogue out for pizza for breakfast, but when he looked at the clock it definitely was not breakfast time anymore. How in the hell had time slipped by that quickly? "I guess, brunch sounds good in general since we've technically missed breakfast."
“Well look at it this way,” Pogue commented as he pulled on his jeans, leaving them undone for the time being. “Putting clothes on means you have the fun of taking them off later.” He grinned but then stopped as he raked his hand through his hair. “Though I think I’m gonna need a shower before we go anywhere.”
"That is a terrible way of looking on the bright side," Caleb countered, giving Pogue his best glare, and finally pushed himself to sit up, "I hate you so much. If you're going to shower then get going or else I'm going to end up joining you and we'll never leave this place."
Pogue rolled his eyes. “Now you’re just being dramatic.” He lightly tossed Caleb’s shirt at him before he trailed in the direction of the bathroom because a shower was most definitely needed.
A grin was given and Caleb couldn't help but laugh as he caught the shirt and watched Pogue head towards the bathroom, "You love it." He wasn't usually the dramatic type, but it was so much fun to just tease Pogue. He tossed the shirt in the laundry bin before getting off the bed to find a new outfit. He was debating about waiting for Pogue to get out or just joining him for a shower as he picked out his clothes.
Pogue slipped out of his newly acquired underwear and jeans and slipped under a steady stream of warm water, head tipped back and hands lifting a moment later to work through the rapidly dampening strands of hair.
He soaped up and then moved onto shampoo into the hair before eventually he just rested his palms against the shower wall and leaned into the spray, head bowed and eyes closed.
Nothing really beat a nice hot shower.
Caleb mumbled to himself as he weighed out the options of taking shower with Pogue, waiting after, or taking one later in the day. He eventually grew tired of just thinking it over and made his way into the bathroom. He was still naked, so he was able to just open up the shower door and after a quick moment of taking in the sight of Pogue he stepped inside. "We need a bigger place with a bigger shower," Caleb commented as he moved behind Pogue and massaged his shoulders.
Pogue was surprised but in a good way when Caleb joined him in the shower and he leaned back into the warm strong hands now massaging his shoulders.
“What are you saying, Caleb? You don’t like being all up close and personal with me?” He grinned at the other man over his shoulder.
"Oh, I definitely do or else I wouldn't be in here, but it would be nice if I wouldn't bruise body parts trying to contort myself," Caleb commented with a laugh as he looked at Pogue. It would just be nice in general to move into a bigger place. He knew Pogue probably wouldn't care about having a separate bedroom now that they were spending their nights together, but maybe it would be better if Reid and Tyler were nearby.
“Fair point,” Pogue admitted with a nod of his head. His hand raked through his hair and pulled it back before he reached for the shampoo. Now secured he turned to face Caleb and passed his hands into the other man’s dark hair before he pressed in with his fingertips to rub and massage it into a lather.
“You thinking we should get a big place for all of us?”
When Pogue began to shampoo his hair Caleb's eyes fell closed and a half smile formed on his lips. Having someone play with your hair like this always felt amazing. A small sigh escaped his lips and he reached for Pogue's hips to bring him even closer.
"I am.... it wouldn't be a bad idea. We can have rooms on separate floors if we can't handle all living together. I have some money set aside for when I wanted to get out of this one bedroom."
Pogue grinned a little as Caleb drew him closer and allowed that to dictate the slow methodical strokes though Caleb’s hair and over his scalp.
“And I’ve seen their place, the sooner they get out of there the better.” It was pretty grim but Reid was Reid and Tyler well he followed wherever Reid led.
"Yeah, it isn't the greatest. Maybe I will do some searching in the coming weeks on what may be an option," Caleb murmured. He was being turned into goo from Pogue's hands and it was hard to think straight.
"If you keep this up we are never going to get food," he commented with a smirk as his thumbs traced circles on Pogue's hips.
A laugh escaped Pogue's lips when Caleb admitted that they might never get out of the apartment to get food which would be a shame as Pogue was starving but it was a learning for next time. Either have an ample supply of easy to make food or make sure that you had a constant supply of takeout.
"I am fucking hungry," he admitted ruefully as he drew Caleb closer and used the spray of the shower to catch and rid him of the soapy suds now gathered in his hair.
"So am I, but you're making everything a little hard right now," Caleb pointed out with a raised eyebrow when he was drawn closer. He couldn't help but laugh as he leaned down to give Pogue a kiss, and then playfully pushed him away, "Get away from me, tempter." His face was bright with amusement as he spoke and quickly finished up cleaning himself off and moved to turn the water off. They were absolutely acting like teenagers and Caleb was probably going to die dramatically if he didn't get food soon.
Pogue snorted as Caleb playfully shoved him away and in the interest of getting out of the house and grabbing food he hurriedly finished up and then smirked as he rather purposefully brushed past Caleb. "C'mon then," he muttered as he tossed a towel to Caleb and put another one around his hips. "I dunno about you but I could definitely eat a horse."
When Caleb felt him brush up against him he reached out to playfully smack whatever part of Pogue his hand reached first, "I hate you. And yeah, we're going to have to go find a buffet or something." He grabbed the towel and quickly ran it over his hair before putting it around his hips and went to go grab his toothbrush. There was no way he was paying for the amount of food the two of them could eat ala carte.
"Buffet works," Pogue said with a nod of his head. He wasn't particularly fussy and he definitely despite his upbringing didn't have expensive taste. "I should text Tyler or Reid, see if they wanna meet up for food and we can talk about the whole... witch thing another time, maybe? Privately I think would be better."
He snagged a smaller towel and worked that over his hair before he looped it around his neck and headed to get dressed.
"Sure, go for it. Yeah, the witch thing is not a good idea when there's food involved from your reaction," Caleb pointed out with small laugh. The last thing he wanted was to ruin Tyler and Reid's meal by showing off his witchy powers and freaking them out like he did Pogue. He watched Pogue leave before finishing up brushing his teeth and joined him to get dressed. Might as well ease into the discussion of dreams a different time, or maybe after they were done eating and somewhere private.
