It was good to know that Theo's mom wasn't all that sane in recent Dreams. Honestly, she'd hated to see that sudden and downward spiral her mother had taken ever since they'd moved into Hill House. But Theo knew there was something wrong with the house. She was always cold, and she saw things whenever she touched various objects in the house. It was beyond comprehension, especially for a ten year old. But things were coming to a head, it seemed. Her mother was more and more on edge, but finally it seemed that someone had talked her into taking a vacation, getting away from the house. She was going to go visit her sister.
But then everything suddenly happened at once. Her mother had apparently returned unexpectedly and everything went to Hell in a hand basket. Theo had been woken up suddenly by her father, telling her to get dressed. He seemed crazed, almost out of his mind like something had frightened him to his core. But then as Theo and her siblings were gathered in the entryway, she'd refused to go, and her father grabbed her arm. Skin-to-skin contact. And she saw what had happened. A tea party with the twins and another little girl that was dead. Her father shoving her mother into the wall, clearly hurting her.
Theo freaked out at that point, screaming not to be touched. That was where the Dreams had left off a couple nights before. Theo hadn't been in the best of moods since then, the images of that vision of her mother being shoved by her father seared into her brain.
Tonight, despite her best efforts, Theo had fallen asleep. Or probably more accurately was she passed out from alcohol consumption. Another Dream came, and it was the conclusion to the previous Dream. Her father finally succeeded in getting her and her siblings into the car and drove them to a motel some distance away. There was a repeated question of where their mother was, but her dad never gave them an answer. However, Theo knew before the rest of her siblings, that her mother wouldn't be joining them. She didn't know the exact circumstances, but she had a feeling her mother would never be with them again.
Theo woke with a jolt, suddenly sober, and pushed herself upright.
"Fuck," she muttered as she pushed her hair out of her face. She'd fallen asleep on her couch. Not the worst place to pass out, but she did rather hate her Dreams of late. She really hoped that they would never go back to that damned house. And it seemed clear to her that there was a night from her Dreams that the Crains would never ever speak of, just like the one from her waking life. The night her mother had killed herself.
Theo glanced at the time. It was early, far too early for any clubs to be open. But Theo knew where she'd be spending her evening. The dance floor of a club sounded like an amazing place to get lost in.
"At least it's Saturday," she muttered to herself. She didn't have to work, unless Elsa called with an emergency, of course. Theo got up and went to shower. The least she could do was attempt to be a functioning adult for a while before going to a club later. And who knew, maybe doing some routine cleaning of her apartment would help her forget about her Dreams.
It wouldn't, of course, but at least she'd be doing something productive. She'd drown her problems in music and alcohol later.
