Who: Leon and Liv
What: Liv forces Leon to go shopping
When: April sometime
Where: The mall
Rating/Warning: Low/none. Language because Leon.
Status: Complete

Liv had been shopping a lot lately. Retail therapy was clearly the way to handle everything going on in her life. Plus who didn’t love new clothes? But now her closet was overflowing with things. She couldn’t buy anymore for herself. Well she could but she really shouldn’t. So giving Leon a makeover it was. He needed a new wardrobe anyway. Those t-shirts were ridiculous.

“Come on!” Liv said practically dragging Leon into one of the higher end stores at the mall. “We need to get you some new shirts like yesterday.”

Leon frowned, allowing himself to be dragged along by Liv. Malls weren’t exactly his favourite place to be, but like usual, it was easier to just go along with Liv’s whims than to fight them. He’d tried that plenty, back when she first started eating brains - not that he knew that was what was happening back then - but now, well, they were usually pretty harmless.

He frowned down at his his t-shirt and frowned. “What’s wrong with my shirts?” he asked, a little offended.

Liv wrinkled her nose as she examined Leon’s shirt. “Too punny,” she replied. “It’s not as cool as you think it is,” she added as they made their way to the collared shirt. “You’re an adult. You need something like this,” Liv said grabbing a nice dark blue button down.

“Chris thinks my shirts are cool,” Leon grumbled, more to himself than Liv. He frowned at the shirt. “I’ve got suits, Liv. For funerals.”

“Chris is a child,” Liv pointed out. “And this is not a suit. You could even wear it with jeans.” It would just dress him up a bit. Make him look like an actual adult instead of an oversized child.

Leon frowned, taking the shirt in hand and looking it over. It did look nice. Probably nowhere near as comfortable as a t-shirt, but it wasn’t too bad. And then he looked at the price tag, and nearly choked. “Are you trying to make me bankrupt?” Leon snapped. “There’s no way I’m spending $75 on a fucking shirt, Liv.” He could get seven and a half perfectly good t-shirts for that price.

She could tell by the way he was looking at it that he did like the shirt. At least until he saw the price. Liv frowned. “Yeah but it will look so good on you,” she argued. Liv preferred higher end things, or at least on this brain she did. But since she wasn’t going to be the one wearing it she supposed she could make an exception. “We can find something similar at a different store,” she went on the frown still on her face. “It’ll be cheaper.”

Leon glanced over at Liv, and then scowled back at the shirt, trying to pretend not to see the frown on Liv’s face. Sure, she gave him an alternative, but it was obvious that she wanted him to buy the overpriced shirt in his hands instead. He rubbed it a little between his fingers; it did feel nice.

“Fine,” he snapped. “If you’re going to keep looking at me like that, I’ll get the damn shirt,” he grumbled, and then even quieter followed it up with “I wish you’d eat another football fan.”

Liv smiled triumphantly. She knew that eventually she’d feel guilty for making Leon buy such an expensive shirt. But right now she was excited, and proud of herself. “You are going to look so handsome!” Liv commented unable to contain her excitement.

“Football season is over,” she reminded him. Even if she had consumed the brain of another fan it wouldn’t be as much fun without the games to watch.

“What, I’m not handsome now?” Leon asked, frowning. Sure, he understood that guys generally looked better in nice dress shirts, but he at least had style that stood out from everyone else.

“Fine, basketball or baseball would be fine too,” he said after a moment. Maybe baseball, since the season was just getting started. It had been disappointing, to say the least, when Liv’s football brain had ran out just before the Superbowl. It wasn’t something he especially wanted to relive with the NBA playoffs coming up. Suddenly, he shook his head. The last thing he should be wishing for was for some poor sports fan to get done in.

“You’re okay,” Liv joked. She didn’t really see Leon in that way, but he wasn’t terrible to look at at least. “But you’d be even better in this shirt.”

Liv rolled her eyes. Of course Leon wanted another sports brain. “Sorry,” Liv replied with a sheepish smile. “Next time a sports fan gets murdered make sure you’re assigned to the case.” That was the only way she’d eat the brain after all.

Leon grumbled to himself under his breath, but even so he walked his way to the front counter. If Liv expected him to buy more than one shirt, well then, she had another thing coming. For one, Leon didn’t have enough spare money in his bank account to buy more than one.

“Deal,” Leon said. “They really have to stop assigning me to all the weirdos.” Though, for all the brains that Liv had been on, the make-Leon-buy-a-fancy-shirt brain wasn’t the worst of the bunch.

“You know, Leon,” Liv said still beaming that he had agreed to buy the shirt. “I don’t think there is such a thing as normal… especially here.”

“You’re telling me,” Leon snorted, making his way up to the till. He paid for his shirt, and then frowned at Liv. “So, are we done now?” he asked, really, really hoping they were.

“One shirt?” Liv replied. “Of course we aren’t done. We need to get you pants, and shoes. And a lot more shirts…” her voice trailed off grabbing his hand and leading him to a department store. She knew if she was going to convince him to buy multiple things they needed to be cheaper. But at least he would have one really nice shirt.

Leon sighed. He really should have seen that coming. Still, he had to admit he was relieved when Liv led him out of the store into the cheaper department store, and he didn’t resist. If he was going to be forced to shop for the rest of the afternoon, at least it was a place where he could get a shirt for under $10. “I guess I could use some new tennis shoes,” Leon said, looking down at the beat-up old Reeboks he was currently wearing.

That was the spirit! Liv practically beamed at Leon’s comment not even bothering to look down at his feet. She’d seen them enough time to know how they looked. She really should have thought of that herself already. But it was even better coming from Leon, more of a chance he would buy a new pair. She led him over to the shoe section grabbing a nice new pair of Reeboks. “Try these!” Liv said excitedly, not even bothering to ask his shoe size.

Leon looked at the shoes, shot Liv a look, and then put the shoes back before grabbing a pair that would actually fit him. “Glad you’re not trying to force a pair of useless dress shoes or something on me,” he said, slipping his shoes off. Not that he didn’t have a pair, a single pair, of dress shoes, but there was absolutely no reason that he need to own another pair.

It didn’t take him long to lace up the new shoes, and he did a couple of practice steps, running in place for a moment. “How do they look?” he asked.

“They wouldn’t be practical enough for your job,” Liv replied. Leon did have to chase down people on occasion. No reason to scuff up some perfectly nice dress shoes doing that. Liv grinned as Leon walked around in the shoes. “Perfect! You look like some type of athlete. Could even be a pro.”

Leon snorted. “Not likely” he scoffed. Not that Leon hadn’t once nursed fantasies of playing pro-sports of some kind. He’d been on his school basketball, football, and baseball teams right up until the end of his junior year when his dad had been killed and he’d had to start working part-time to support his mom. But in his heart he’d always known he’d be a cop, and had never seriously considered going pro.

“They feel good though,” he said after a moment of toe lifts. “Guess I’ll get these too.”

Liv practically cheered when Leon agreed to get the shoes. “See?” Liv replied with a large smile. “Even my non sports related brains pay off.”

“Sometimes,” Leon snorted, giving another couple bounces on his soon-to-be-new shoes before taking them off and putting on his old pair. He might as well resign himself to the fact that Liv was bound and determined to take him on a shopping trip. “Alright, Liv, lead the way.”
