Now that all the Sons of Ipswich were back in the same state Caleb decided to invite Reid and Tyler over for a night in. He figured they can eat like shit, drink, and play video games or watch a movie. Basically all the things they did when they were at Spenser. So far things had been good between him and Pogue and it felt like old times having him back in his place. He was currently scrolling through his phone as he tried to figure out what to order from GrubHub.
He was probably just going to order a few things from a couple different places because he knew what Reid and Tyler liked to eat, but he was still figuring Pogue out. A hand ran through his black hair as he paced around in the kitchen before finally settling on some items. There would be some Chinese, some Italian, and some Mexican. He was also debating if he wanted to explain the Dreams to the guys when they finally gathered, but he'd feel out the conversation before deciding on that one.
It was about a week after they'd moved out here that Reid and Tyler had swapped keys with Caleb. In fact, Tyler's back pocket held a copy of his and Reid's apartment key for Pogue, considering he was here now too and they would likely just move in and out of each other's orbits the same way they always had done. They'd only been late because they'd stopped to grab beer, and Tyler hadn't had his ID on him, so even though Reid did, the cashier wouldn't serve them; they'd had to go somewhere else and Tyler sat in the back of the uber sulking like a teenager.
Still, laden with beer and potato chips, as well as half a dozen movies crammed into his backpack, they arrived and let themselves in.
"Sorry we're late," he offered by way of greeting, walking over towards the kitchen and dumping the first of their bags on the counter. "We have beer."
Reid to his credit had refrained from teasing Tyler about the ID thing as contrary to popular belief he could keep his mouth shut at times. This being one of the times. Especially when Tyler was already sulking about it. “Lots of beer,” he added helpfully as he trailed in behind Tyler with yet more bags ladened with groceries.
Pogue had just finished up in the bathroom so he was rubbing at damp hair as he wandered out to greet Reid and Tyler with a warm smile and the accompanying physical contact because he was a tactile creature
“Did I hear the magic word?”
“If by beer then yeah yeah you did,” Reid muttered with a smirk as he tossed a can in Pogue’s direction.
"Always with the beer, you know I can make better drinks, right? Ones that actually taste decent?" Caleb teased as he made his way out of the kitchen. He didn't mind beer, honestly, but sometimes the cocktails he made at work worked a lot faster and tasted better than some of the beers he served. He put his phone in his back pocket as he went to help grab items from Reid and put them on the kitchen table, "I just made 3 different GhubHub orders, so they'll be here in like 30/40 minutes."
He was excited to have everyone over. It was pretty common place to have Reid and Tyler, separate and together, over here when they wanted to hang out, but now Pogue got to experience the fun. He grabbed himself a can of beer and cracked it open as he dug out a bowl to pour the chips into.
"Lucky for you," Tyler said to Caleb, having leaned into the warm and lingering clap on his shoulder from Pogue, "I didn't have lunch. Also, unless you're looking for us to fall asleep on your couch again, cocktails are totally outta the question." He wrinkled his nose, grabbing himself a beer and then vaulting over the back of it, grinning over at the others, securing what he considered to be the best seat in the house for himself. "I bought movies, too, so if we get bored of actual conversation we can stick something on to ignore each other in favour of."
Pogue cracked open his beer and took a healthy swing before leaning around Caleb to steal a chip. “What kinda movies?” He nudged Caleb in the side. “You can demonstrate your cocktail making skills later.”
Reid rummaged out a couple more bags of things such as popcorn and sweets that he secured bowls for.
“Hey, Caleb? Did Tyler just leap onto your couch with his shoes?” He asked with a teasing grin in Tyler’s direction.
"Is this going to turn into the movie Cocktail? I get to be Tom Cruise though," Caleb couldn't help but chuckle a little. He was going to have to show Pogue the ropes once he started working at Pandemonium, but for now they'd just have a night in with the guys.
"Tyler....." Caleb's voice was a low warning as he turned to lock eyes with his friend. He was doing his best to keep a straight face as he glared at him. He honestly didn't care that much, but it was a fairly nice couch.
Tyler flipped Reid off and turned to look innocently at Caleb. "Landed ass first, man, no shoes scuffing your precious furniture." A little grin crept up along his face, though, unable to suppress it, bright and cheeky. "And I didn't spill my beer."
Reid returned the middle finger with a blown kiss before he bared teeth and just grabbed a bowl, kicking his barely laced pair of boots off to one side as he joined Tyler on the couch.
Pogue snorted softly. “Your apartment, your Tom Cruise moment.” Another chip eaten and Pogue was sauntering over to grab a seat but more importantly rummage through the movies.
"You guys are all so weird," Caleb commented with a shake of his head and a smile on his lips. He loved his friends dearly and was loyal until death for them, but man they were a motley crew. He wondered sometimes if they would even be friends if it hadn't been for their families. He moved one of the bowls of chips onto the coffee table, he knew they couldn't fit everything onto the coffee table, but they'd clear it off once they had plates of food, "Alright, what do you need to get caught up on for movies, Pogue?"
Reid threw a piece of popcorn at Caleb in retaliation for the use of weird. "Takes one to know." Yep, mature. That was Reid.
Pogue's brow was furrowed together as he came across one DVD that seemed to be in another language. "Uh, Tyler, what is this?" He recognised a couple of the others like Wreck-it Ralph and a few of the horror movies but some of them just escaped him entirely. "Uh, honestly? I have no idea. Can't remember what was out before I left."
"It's Pan's Labyrinth, Pogue. It's good." Tyler said, leaning forward to take a handful of chips before he leaned back again. "Movies are one thing, but it's TV that he's really gonna need to get caught up on. You know Game of Thrones has finally finished?"
"Oh god, you could just waste years of your life trying to get caught up on tv shows. They go on for so long now," that was Caleb's one complaint about getting caught up in tv series. He was more of a movie kind of guy because at least they were only about 2 hours of his life. Then he heard the doorbell ring and he got up to get the first of the GrubHub orders from the delivery person.
"Pan what?" Reid asked around a mouthful of popcorn before leaning forward to snatch the DVD out of Pogue's hand like a hyperactive toddler on Christmas morning.
Pogue gave Reid a look before he glanced at Tyler. "It did? Was the ending worth it?"
Reid's only response to that was a distinctly loud snort.
Tyler pressed his lips together, "Not worth it," he shared sagely. "If I could go back and scrub the whole thing from my brain I totally would do."
He nudged Reid's shoulder. "And dude, we watched this like, two years ago. It's got the hand thing in it?" He glanced up at Caleb. "You've seen Pan's Labyrinth, right?"
"Tyler's correct," Caleb agreed with a solemn nod, "Danerys got completely shafted and I'm still wondering what the hell was the point of everything." He moved over to the kitchen table to lay out the food and then the door bell rang again.
"Um, I think so. It's been a really long time since I've seen it," Caleb called out as he answered the door and grabbed the next set of food. He saw another delivery person in the hallway and chuckled as he waited for them to arrive. Once the food was in his arms he shut the door, "Alright guys, I think we may actually have enough food for once."
"Well screw that," Pogue grumbled. "I'm not watching all those seasons for that crappy ending." He glanced over in time to catch sight of Caleb with all the food in his arms and laughed. "Yeah, I think you might be right." Pogue got to his feet and wandered over to help Caleb with everything.
Hand thing? Hand thing? Oh! And had there been a lightbulb above Reid's head it most definitely would have gone off. "That's a pretty cool movie."
Tyler grinned, nudging Reid again. "I do my best not to make you watch shit stuff, Reid," he muttered, turning on the couch to look at Caleb with all the food, "You need a hand with that?" he asked, only half intending on actually following through on his offer because he'd just made himself comfortable on the couch. "Smells amazing."
"Thanks," Caleb muttered to Pogue once his face appeared and he took one of the bags out of his arms, "At least someone actually helps out." He shot a look over at Tyler with a grin. He honestly didn't mind because he would do the same if he was over at Tyler and Reid's place. They walked to the kitchen table and Caleb set to work putting out the food and grabbing plates and utensils.
"It does smell great. Has anyone quite decided on what we should watch yet?" He was curious as he snagged a breadstick and took a bite of it while he worked.
"No worries," Pogue said easily enough as he started to unpack the varying boxes and containers with food in them, dishing out an equal amount of everything to every plate.
Reid leaned over and caught one of the horror DVDs and upon closer inspection he could see he'd grabbed The Conjuring. "Yep, this one. Horror."
"If I had Jedi mind powers," Tyler said with a grin, shifting on the couch so he was kneeling on it, arms folded on the back cushion as he watched Caleb and Pogue moving as an efficient team, "I'd be up there helping more. You guys have it in hand though."
He glanced over his shoulder to watch Reid, opening his mouth to argue that horror wasn't the best idea for him but he'd at least didn't have to get up early tomorrow so if he was up all night staring into the corner of his room expecting something horrible to appear it wouldn't be the end of the world.
They finished dishing things up and Caleb passed Reid and Tyler their plates of food. It was nice to not have to cook anything and clean up would basically be a breeze. Once that was done he grabbed his own plate and settled in on one of the lounge chairs in the living room. "Horror? Alright then..." He wasn't quite sure Tyler actually liked horror movies that much, but it was his stack of movies, so he didn't have much to say on that.
"Sure, Tyler, sure," Pogue muttered with a pointed look in the other man's direction before he like Caleb came trailing over with his plate of food, settling on the floor in front of the couch rather than on the couch itself. Honestly Pogue had never sat normally a day in his life, why should now be any different?
Reid arched his eyebrow in response to Tyler's impression of a goldfish. "We can watch something else, if you want?"
Pogue looked between his friends after having taken a forkful of food.
"No!" Tyler responded quickly, turning and resettling on the couch with his food carefully resting on his lap. Caleb, he knew, would forgive shoes on the couch but if he spilled his food, he'd get That Look, the one that made him feel really guilty and he wasn't much of a fan of that particular of Caleb's looks.
He cleared his throat. "No- I- I'm good, yeah. We can watch it."
Caleb's "Look" was pretty impressive when it needed to be. He loved his friends, but sometimes it was a handful to try and be the only responsible one. A small smile appeared as he shook his head at Tyler declaring they would watch the movie no matter what. "Alright then, might as well pop it in now. We can watch something completely different after." More of a palate cleanser.
"Alright, if you're sure," Reid muttered as he put his food to one side and got up to put the movie on before he nudged Pogue so he could clamber back onto the couch.
Pogue lightly smacked Reid's leg because, "dude," though it did mean he strayed further away from the couch and more towards Caleb's chair where he rested his back against it.
"Shut up and eat your take out," Reid fired back with a smirk.
"Get a room you two," Tyler muttered, leaning forward to grab the remote and being careful not to dip the ties of his hoodie into his food. Turning the TV on and flicking to the right channel for the DVD he shifted ostensibly to get comfortable but he did move a fraction closer to Reid so their thighs were almost touching. It was almost imperceptible. Almost.
Caleb couldn't help but roll his eyes as Tyler called out for them to get a room. Heaven forbid Pogue moved closer to his chair, it meant absolutely nothing. Sometimes his friends made absolutely no sense and he just had to let it roll off his shoulders. Instead of retorting he just watched Tyler and Reid move closer on the couch and smirked to himself. He always sensed something was going on with those two. So he settled back and started to eat as the movie began.
