It had been days since he heard from both Cisco and Iris. And he was getting worried. Especially with what was going on the city. This really wasn’t the best time to disappear. He had asked both Joe and Stiles if they had heard from Iris and Cisco, but nope, they hadn’t. Barry couldn’t sit around anymore. He was going to go out and look for them. He grabbed his keys and left his place.
There was only one other person he could think of bugging and that was Jemma. So, he drove over to the Agency. He knew once he got there he couldn’t just barge on in. He would need to text her to come outside or let him inside. Whichever. He just needed to talk to her.
Once he was there and parked he grabbed his phone and texted Jemma. I need to talk to you. I’m outside.
*
With the dragon and fire and earthquakes, Jemma was a bit busy trying to play field medic. So Barry was lucky that she was actually at the Agency when he showed up. Admittedly, that was because she had gone back to get some more supplies and was fully prepared to go back out given her wife had things under control at the Agency since she tended to stay inside when things got crazy.
Or she could get a text from Barry.
“Bloody hell….” Her immediate reaction wasn’t that something was wrong in regards to Cisco or Iris missing (though perhaps she should have been, but between working on a report for med school and then figuring Cisco’s head was acting up with everything going on...well, even Jemma could miss things now and again), but instead that Barry’s abilities had chosen that exact moment to act up and while of course she would help, this really was not the time.
Still, she headed up to the lobby to see what was wrong. As she stepped outside, the brunette looked to the sky - no sign of the dragon, though smoke from the fires where it had been were visible. Right, Barry. Who looked more worried than anxious about his abilities kicking in.
“Barry, what is it? What’s wrong?”
Because something was clearly wrong.
***
Barry knew now was probably not a good time to bug Jemma, but she was the last person he knew who to ask. He really hoped they were just hiding out from the chaos that was happening in the city and their phones died or something. But deep down he didn’t feel like that could be true. Something was wrong.
He quickly put his phone away and started walking towards Jemma the moment she appeared. “It’s Cisco and Iris… have you seen or heard from the lately? I’ve tried calling them and texting them and I get nothing. I’ve been to their places and they’re not there.” He was kind of hoping that Jemma might say that they’re inside, safe and sound, but that would be too easy.
*
It really would be too easy and Jemma had long since accepted that easy and Orange County weren’t exactly a thing. And with enough time, so would Barry. Still, when she heard why he was there?
“Bloody hell….” Because that was the last thing she needed. Her working assumption with Cisco had been he’d been hiding out because of his head but if he wasn’t home…. And Iris hadn’t really been there since the previous month after her own run in with…
If it was Hydra, Jemma was going to quit.
“No, they’re not. But come in, I can run some scans.” And pray that something came up. With most everyone who was able out in the fray, it was easy to lead Barry to her lab. And while Cisco had his tech, Jemma had the tech from her own dreams. Which meant the holodeck. Pulling it up, she started a scan - focusing on the frequency that she and Cisco had found for his glasses to help with the vibes.
And that was when she noticed something and zoomed in on it.
“That’s not normal….”
A fissure of some sorts. And then another energy and it closed. Moving from the holodeck to a nearby computer, Jemma pulled up the coordinates. Supposed abandoned warehouse. With the technology, she was able to move the location to the holodeck and pull up heat signatures. So clearly not abandoned.
“Of course they have them, of course…” The comment was muttered under her breath before she seemed to remember that Barry was there. Right. Awkward.
“It seems the people who who poisoned Iris last month has both of them…”
No easy way to break it, so going straight to the point. Could it be someone else? Of course, but doubtful. This had Hydra written all over it.
***
Those two words killed any hope Barry had. “What kind of scans?” he asked as he followed Jemma inside. Whatever fancy tech she had, he hoped it tracked down both Iris and Cisco. And quickly. Too much time had passed and who knew what was happening to them.
As Jemma worked, he was kind of impressed with the holodeck. Why couldn’t he have something like that? Most of the time he kind of just paced behind her as she worked. He didn’t want to bother her until she said something. That made him stop and take a closer work. “What is that? Or what was that?”
Now she really had his attention. She was obviously connecting the dots quicker than Barry was. “Who has them?”
Those people again? Is that who had Iris and Cisco? He had hoped after what happened to Iris last time that would be the end of it, but apparently it wasn’t.
“They’re at those abandoned buildings, aren’t they? We have to go. I have to go.”
*
“Frequency scans. Given the current state of things,” Dragon, skies of smoke and fire and all that, “It’ll be easier to notice abnormalities.” Or well...abnormalities that were different from the current crisis facing Orange County. The answer was given as Jemma went to quick work pulling things up. Multi-tasking was sort of a thing she had mastered, the need to answer questions while also answering questions.
As to what they had temporarily seen?
“A breach of some sort I think.” She wasn’t positive since it wasn’t a satellite image or anything that precise. Just enough to know that it was something. Different frequencies and energies. She was pretty sure there was a file on the energy signature that had closed the breach but there wasn’t time to look into that.
Wouldn’t it have been nice if Hydra had just given up after one round of getting to Iris for her story? But of course they weren’t. The work she and Cisco had done was all in house so she wasn’t so sure if they even knew about him. At least before...but now? This was bad and there was a lot that needed to go into this. She needed to alert Natasha. She needed to figure out who she could reach out to in order to pull a rescue mission in the midst of fighting a dragon.
But her attention was drawn back to Barry.
“And do what, Barry? The people who have them are highly trained operatives. Are you trained for that? I have people I can call who are trained to fight people like them.”
Because last she checked, while the tests she had done on Barry had shown something and she was aware of his abilities in the Dreams, those abilities had yet to cross over.
*
Barry wasn’t going to say it out loud, but he couldn’t help but wonder how she was going to find anything in the mess of what was going on outside.
“A breach? Well, that can’t be good.” Who knew what could be coming in our out of it. Whatever it was, he was pretty sure it wasn’t good.
“I don’t know! But I can’t just sit around and do nothing.” Of course he wasn’t trained for that. That didn’t stop him from wanting to do something. Sitting around and looking at a monitor was not good enough for him.
“I’m going.” He wasn’t sure what he was going to do once he got there, but he knew he needed to help. “Thanks for helping,” he said as he started to head out.
It all happened so fast. He barely stepped out of Jemma’s office and the next he was stumbling towards his car. He quickly looked back at the building “Oh no…” No, no, no. Now was not the time for his new found powers to finally awaken. Or maybe it was a good time. He could get Cisco and Iris out of the situation quickly or he could totally lose control and they could all end up dead. This was not good. He knew one thing, though, he needed his suit back, which meant he was heading back inside to bug Jemma one last time.
“Where does Cisco work?”
*
A breach was definitely not good. She knew that previous ones had given Cisco issues which was she had landed on that term. Who knew what it was but it seemed accurate. She would just have to look up the energy signature that had closed it after this was all sorted.
Or Barry could get all agitated which she did understand. She got it all the time in her Dreams between Fitz and Daisy, but that didn’t mean she was going to let it slide. Of course before she could say anything, Barry was out the door at…. Well that would make things interesting.
Already she was pulling out her phone. Most people were involved with the fight against the dragon but there were some people she could reach out to in order to make sure Barry had backup since he was in no way prepared for this.
Just as Barry came back.
“Well at least you have some sense. Come on.” Motioning for Barry to follow after her, Jemma hit the number she wanted, “Ilia, are you able to help with a rescue mission--yes I know, brilliant, I’ll text you the coordinates.”
As she hung up, she nodded to the lab Cisco and Ruby shared.
“The suit is in there, and since you are determined to go, I’m sending back up.”
It was all she could really do. Jemma was still needed out in the field to deal with fire injuries.
As for Ilia? She had needed to save her girlfriend from fire and as she had gotten her settled at Pimpernel Outreach, she had gotten the phone call from Jemma. Which...okay, that was weird. But it was something to do and seemed that it was something she could actually do as opposed to this whole dragon thing.
So once she got Chloe situated and was certain she was okay? The faunus teen changed course and headed to the coordinates that Jemma had sent her. She wasn’t positive on what exactly was going on, but she could feel it in her bones that it was similar to the Red Room.
Back in the warehouse…. After Iris had finally managed to get out of the binds that had kept her in the chair for however long it had been, she had tried to get Cisco to wake up but so far? Nothing. Which really was going to make this a lot more difficult because the distraction of a dragon and fire wherever it flew was only going to keep their captors distracted for so long. Which meant that the journalist had to think fast - not the easiest of things to do when she’d been injected with who knew what and the abuse heaped on her for answers that were deemed insufficient.
At least Iris had managed to get Cisco unbound so if he did wake up, he could move. But there wasn’t time for her to do much else as the distraction came to an end and some of the men had come back to where they expected her to still be tied in a chair only to find the chair empty.
“Prisoner has escaped!”
That was when they noticed her standing in front of Cisco’s bed protectively, armed with a fire extinguisher and scalpel because those were the closest items to her.
*
Barry followed Jemma to Cisco’s lab. All the while listening to her half of the phone call. He was going to ask who Ilia was, but that’s when Jemma said that she was sending back up. Well, whoever Ilia was, they must be the back up. That’s all he really needed to know. They were going to be back up. He was definitely going to need it since he really had no idea what he would be walking into once he go to the abandoned building.
“Okay,” was all that he needed to say. He wasn’t going to argue. What he needed to do was get the suit on and go, which is exactly what he did.
He wasted no time. Once the suit was on, he quickly ran out of the lab and kept on running. Driving would take too long. Running was quicker and, hey, kind of cool too.
It wasn’t long before he reached the abandoned buildings. He tried to stop gracefully, but that didn’t work out. He ended up losing his balancing and toppling over onto the ground. “I really need to work on that,” he said to himself as he stared up into the night sky.
*
Blinking as Barry raced out of the Agency once again in seemingly the blink of an eye (that would get annoying if it became a habit), Jemma sighed and pulled out her phone to try Clara. They were going to need help in getting out and something told the biochemist that Clara would be able to also get rid of the memories from this week from Hydra and hopefully corrupt and destroy any information they had on Cisco and Iris to get the targets off of their backs.
Ilia had gotten to the abandoned warehouse at the same time as Barry and could only stare in mild shock and horror at his arrival. This…. No wonder Jemma had wanted her to show up for back-up. This guy clearly was going to be out of his element. But no matter, closing the distance, she just looked down at him.
“You might want to get up as well before they--”
Or the commotion could alert some of the guards to their presence. Turning quickly, the teen pulled her whip from her hip and electricity ran through it as she whipped at the guard who came out to see what was going on and knocked him to the ground.
With another commotion taking place, Iris turned her attention to Cisco and shook him worriedly,
“C’mon, get up. We may not get another chance at getting out.”
Because she had no idea just what was happening outside, if it was tied to whatever had drawn their attention in the first place but Iris wasn’t going to sit around and find out. Only for her main ‘interrogator’ to come in and backhand her while she was distracted on trying to get Cisco away and knocked her into a cabinet which clanged loudly.
Okay then. Dazed, Iris gripped the scalpel and ignored the fact she’d cut the inside of her palm and managed to stab the man in the leg as he came towards her before taking her protective position in front of Cisco again.
*
Barry hadn’t expected for his back up to be there already. Did she run fast too or did she have some other thing going on with her? He had no time to ask since it seemed like they had been spotted. He quickly got up off of the ground just as Ilia took the guard out with her electrified whip. “Okay, that was kind of cool. But we should get inside.” there was obviously something going on inside. He heard the noise when the guard had opened the door to check what was going on outside. He walked over to the door, stepping over the knocked out guy, and opened the door. He peeked in first before he started to go inside, waving Ilia to follow along.
*
Ilia was skilled like that. Or she had just happened to be closer even with Barry’s speed since he had needed to get his suit and everything. She wasn’t going to question it because there were more pressing matters at hand. Like assholes holding people against their will and doing who knew what.
Which dude in red seemed to get so she just nodded. Part of her wondered if he should even be in the lead since he clearly had no idea what he was doing but...his friends and she was there to help. So once she was waved in, Ilia seemed to vanish into the shadows as her entire body, hair, and outfit all seemed to change colors so that she blended in with the dark.
The guard who Iris had managed to stab, he yelled in pain, which had another guard start to rush in only to stop as he noticed Barry. Now what?!
*
Throughout it all Cisco remained unconscious. He could hear things, but couldn’t see things. Couldn’t respond to Iris even after she’d unbound him. His arms were limp, hands hung down at the sides of the medical table. There were still needles attached to him, one of those keeping him messily sedated. The last thing they needed was for space to appear outside their windows again. They hadn’t quite had time to figure out what the hell his powers were when shit went sideways, so until they could that was where he remained.
Sinking further under, sound becoming lost on him. Blood pooling under him. He knew he should respond, should fight-but he couldn’t.
*
Barry had thought that he and Ilia would get a lot further into the building before being spotted, but they had barely taking a few steps in before the screaming was heard and then a guard was starting to head into that direction until he spotted him. He glanced back and didn’t notice Ilia back there. No wonder the guard seemed to have his full attention on Barry and Barry alone. “Hi,” he said with a wave before he quickly took off.
There really was no point in being slow here. They were going to keep getting caught by these guards and who knew what was happening to Iris and Cisco. The faster he found them, the better.
He pretty much ran through the entire building, checking every single space possible before he finally came upon the area where Iris and Cisco were. He had seen the guard pull out the scalpel and start to go towards Iris. That wasn’t going to happen. Nope. He wondered if he could grab the idiot and place him somewhere else. There was only one way to find out. He quickly grabbed the guard and ran out. He pretty much tossed the stabbed the guard at the first guard who had spotted him before he ran back to the room that Iris and Cisco were in. This time when he stopped, he didn’t tumble to the ground. He was getting the hang of it pretty quickly, which was definitely needed right now. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
*
That was the one problem with stabbing someone, it meant she lost her weapon. But Iris wasn’t focused on that fact. She should be but with the distraction, she had noticed that while she had got the binds undone, she had missed the IV and so that had been her initial plan at the moment. Get the IVs out of Cisco so maybe he’d wake up. It was a running theory at least. But she was also aware of what was going on.
As well as a familiar rush of wind and disappearing guards.
She couldn’t think about that right now as she finally had gotten the IVs out. Just in time for Barry to show up. Turning, all Iris could do was stare. She knew that he had powers in the Dreams, and she knew Cisco had powers now from the Dreams but she didn’t realize that had happened for Barry as he hadn't mentioned it between the time of their conversation about the Dreams and now. Unless it was a new development.
Again, not time to think too much on that. Seeing one of the different guards show up behind Barry with a gun, Iris had no time to warn him before she saw the man stiffen and jolt as if electrocuted and drop to the ground and someone materialize out of the shadows.
“They’re down for now, but we should get moving. I’ve got word from Jemma about our way out of here and they’re on their way.”
Ilia had managed to tie the men up so that they wouldn’t cause any more problems.
As for said ride? Once Bucky had told Clara about what Jemma had needed, it had first been to space to locate her dad as she needed K-9 to help with re-calibrating some things to erase any digital trail the two might have on them, plus erase the memories of the men who had been holding Cisco and Iris.
The familiar sounds of the TARDIS landing were outside.
“And that would be them.” Ilia turned as she noticed Bucky and Clara walk in with….a metal type dog? Sure. Why not.
*
The needles removal caused Cisco to stir. Eyes flickering open groggily. Where were they? He was briefly confused until he heard familiar voices above him and felt his arms free. He could move. At least he could try to move. His body was filled with tingly pins and needles as he let out a sound of pain. Everything hurt, and he began to push himself up. Blurry vision first picking up Barry and Iris and a whole fuckton of chaos.
Was that Clara and some guy? He didn’t know him, but Clara he knew. Other familiar faces. Some not so familiar too. He stood in fog, one hand leaning on the table he’d been strapped to. A guard coming up behind him. He turned and raised a hand at him, nothing happened. Not even a blink of power. He tried to move but his legs felt like noodles. He braced for an attack, and then nothing happened. That guard was gone.
Barry was in red in place of said guards. Was he wearing the suit? What the hell was going on there?
“You’re late.” Cisco managed to respond, but his voice was dry and barely audible since he hadn’t been able to use it for some time now.
---
Barry didn’t have time to say anything. The look on Iris’ face made him turn around just as the guy dropped. Thank god Ilia was there or things would be going far differently right now. “How are we getting out of here?” He could just run, but that didn’t exactly work the others, so he was curious on how they were all getting out of there.
He walked over to Cisco and put his arm around him. They didn’t need Cisco falling over and smacking into the ground. “Yeah, well, it wouldn’t be me if I showed up on time.”
He looked over at Iris and asked, “Are you okay?” She didn’t seem as bad as Cisco, but just because he couldn’t see anything wrong didn’t mean Iris was totally fine.
He glanced up and then around when he heard the sound. What was that? He had never heard anything like it before. And then two more people walked in. “Is that a metal dog?” he asked, tilting his head a little as he looked at the thing. Okay, so now was probably not the time to ask, but let’s be real, everyone was thinking it. He just happened to be the one to ask it out loud.
*
With Barry going to Cisco, Iris focused on staying upright herself. She still had enough adrenaline rushing through her that it wouldn't be a problem. In theory.
“Don’t worry about me, just get him out of here.”
And pushing her own wellbeing to the side. She was sick and hazy from the truth serum, palm bleeding. But she was able to stand so it didn't matter. Especially as the teen with a whip said their way out was there, followed by the arrival of two people and a metal dog.
Clara took stock of the situation and had Bucky go help Barry with Cisco, then nodded to Ilia to help Iris.
“Okay, K-9. You corrupt their computer system and any information on their network about the two and I'll make these men forget them.”
“Affirmative.”
Nodding to K-9, Clara went to the tied up men to erase their memories as Bucky and Ilia got the others to the TARDIS.
*
Cisco leaned on Barry, he didn’t have much choice in the matter. It was lean or fall. He trusted him, even if the place was going up in flames which it very well might at this point-he’d trust them to get them out. He didn’t respond much more for the time being, all he could do was focus on staying conscious and putting one foot forward at a time.
---
Even though Iris said she was okay, Barry kept glancing back at her. He wanted to make sure she wasn’t going to start falling over and saying hello to the ground. When Ilia started to help Iris, his worry over her lessened a bit.
“Look, Cisco, an AI dog. Are you seeing this?” He figured Cisco probably wasn’t, but he was trying to get his friend to stay awake and gain some focus back.
With Bucky’s help, he kept Cisco upright and slowly made their way towards the TARDIS.
He glanced back to make sure that both Iris and Ilia were following. He really couldn’t wait to get everyone out of here. The sooner the better.
*
Barry was trying to get his attention with something, but it all seemed so far away he couldn’t keep focused. It was probably a good thing Bucky came along to help, Cisco was barely conscious
He lifted his gaze to the dog, but he couldn’t quite make it out. He went to say something, but with both of them there he didn’t feel so bad trying to hold onto consciousness. He lost it again, everything hurt too much and he couldn’t keep his attention on anything.
---
Ilia watched as Cisco lost consciousness and Bucky and Barry had to get him into the TARDIS and Bucky motioned they should get Cisco situated in a diner booth so that he would be safe, and she was relieved that Iris at least was managing to stay upright because woman was taller than the chameleon faunus and that would have gotten awkward.
As Iris? Once they were inside the TARDIS, she went to one of the diner booths to just….sit in. She honestly wanted to just be alone, but she didn’t know the layout of the TARDIS or why they were in a diner so it was just going to one of the booths in a corner.
Meanwhile Clara made quick work of the Hydra agents’ memories while K-9 scrambled and corrupted all of the digital trails that were had on the two and then destroying all the evidence in the warehouse so that they wouldn’t even know they had forgotten anything.
“Good boy.”
“I am a good boy.”
Giving a small smile to K-9 once everything was done, the brunette made her way to the TARDIS and took quick stock of everyone in there. Good, no one was getting left behind.
“Let’s get out of here then.”
---
Trying to keep Cisco awake hasn't worked. Barry and Bucky were pretty much dragging Cisco all the way in to the diner and setting him down. Whatever they gave Cisco was strong, that was for sure. Hopefully he’ll be able to come around sooner rather than later.
With Cisco now laying in a booth, his concern went back to Iris. He walked over and sat down across from Iris. “You don’t look fine,” he said after a moment. He could have asked once again if she were okay, but he knew she’d just say she’s fine even though she didn’t look it.
He glanced over at Clara when she spoke. “Yes, let’s.” The sooner the better. They really didn’t need something to do wrong now. Like more guards.
*
Iris wasn’t entirely shocked when Barry came over to her. At least he didn’t ask a question when they both knew the actual answer as well as what Iris’ reply would be. Breaking down and the like really wasn’t something she did in front of people, preferring to be alone but that wasn’t really an option right now, so just pushing through it for now. Which was why Iris just shrugged. Because really what was there to say?
“I will be though.”
Beyond that? Of course she wasn’t okay or fine. But that didn’t mean she wouldn’t be at some point in the future. Once the shock wore off. The adrenaline. All of it. Once she could actually start processing it and not just trying to stay awake and not give anything away.
Luckily for them, there were no more guards. Part of it was because of how quickly things had been dealt with. The other was because of the fact Orange County was on fire and dealing with a dragon. Which worked in their favor. So while Clara was worried about everyone on the TARDIS for what they had been through or what the rescue mission would bring up, she at least knew on that front they were okay. Plus what she had done.
Still, she was more than happy to get them out of there which seemed to be the consensus amongst those who were awake.
“Bucky, can you let Jemma know we’re on our way back?” At the nod from her boyfriend, Clara turned her attention to the controls and punched in the information needed and pulled the lever, the TARDIS disappearing from the warehouse to get them all back to the Agency and safety.
Now it would be the hard part. Dealing with everything that had happened.
