Who: Kyle Valenti & Alice Liddell
What: It's another case of mistaken identify for Kyle. Seriously, Tyler, would you quit with that!? :P
When: May time
Where: Random
Rating/Warnings: G / None
Status: Complete

Alice had almost forgotten how hard it had been balancing everything during the movie. With school and filming and the baby she’d had almost no time for herself and she was fighting hard to keep from falling back into that pattern. Which was what had her stopping by a coffeeshop after picking Kurt up. She just wanted a little time for herself before going home. Okay. With a baby might not be how most people defined time for themself but that’s how she did.

The only problem was that Kurt was in a fussy mood, not wanting to wait patiently in the line for her to place her order. She bounced him in her arms, making a gentle shushing sound as she pressed a kiss to his head. “I know baby. I know. You want to be back in your seat with your toys but mommy wants coffee.” She murmured to him as she took another step forward in line, wincing slightly as her son started crying louder. She gave an apologetic smile to the woman who turned around to glare at her, shushing him again.

***

There was a certain truth to the fact that coffee was the lifeblood of the emergency services or at least as far as doctors went. Kyle honestly didn’t know how he’d get through some of his shifts without the nectar known as caffeine pumping through his veins, it was either coffee or energy drinks and he knew how bad energy drinks were for you so coffee it was.

Lesser of two evils?

He was also in the line waiting to be served, aware of the fact there was a very unhappy baby in front of him with a very fraught looking mother. He could have gotten irritated but that wasn’t really Kyle who actually liked kids, even wanted some of his own one day, way in the future.

Instead he caught the little one’s gaze and pulled a stupid face.

***

Alice took a step forward, bouncing Kurt gently as she made soothing sounds, surprised by the happy laugh that suddenly erupted from her son and she looked at him, noticing that he was looking at someone in the line behind her. If it was one of her friends they’d have said something to her right? Even from behind the purple ends to her curls would be enough to identify her to most of them. She turned around to see who it was, a little gasp escaping her as her eyes widened and she clutched Kurt tighter to her.

“Tyler. I thought I made it clear that I didn’t want you near us.” She said, voice low so that she wouldn’t cause a scene. The last thing she needed going into the musical was bad press. They were still early enough in the rehearsals that it would be easy to replace her.

***

If it was possible for a man to look completely and utterly bewildered and confused then that was the exact expression that Kyle Valenti was pulling. “Yeah, no, wrong guy,” he said with a shake of his head. “My name is Kyle Valenti.”

He reached into his pocket and flashed his hospital ID as nothing screamed ‘I am not Tyler’ then a certified identification from a reputable hospital.

“See?”

***

Alice looked between him and the ID he showed her, relaxing slightly but still holding Kurt close to her. She let out a relieved breath and loosened her grip on Kurt when she heard him whining. “Sorry baby,” she whispered to her son, kissing his temple softly.

She turned her attention back to the man in front of her. “I’m sorry. You just look a lot like someone I used to be close with. I thought you were him.”

***

“I’m getting that a lot,” Kyle assured her as he put his ID away now that he’d proven he was not Tyler. Thankfully ever since he’d run into and come face to face with his younger doppelganger he knew what or rather who she was talking about.

It also sounded like she had a rather interesting history with Tyler.

“I feel like I should apologise for him given that he and I share the same face.”

***

“I owe you the apology. Living out here I really should keep the whole lookalike possibility in mind when meeting people. After all there’s an entire career for people who look like celebrities.” Alice said, trying to force her voice to level out more, her pulse to quit racing. She shifted so that she could hold her hand out to him.

“I’m Alice Liddell and this is Kurt.” It only seemed fair since she knew his name to give him hers.

***

“I’m still getting used to it,” Kyle shared as he took the hand that was offered. “But it’s nice to meet you Alice and you too, Kurt.” Kurt was adorable and Kyle might have been an only child but he did love kids, it helped in his job that was for sure. “And I’ve only met Tyler once but I get the distinct feeling we are nothing alike.”

The other was younger for a start and there was just something about him that reminded Kyle of himself in high school which in this reality not such a bad thing but in the dreams? Huge problem. Hopefully Tyler was more like him and less like dream!him.

“You need help with anything?”

***

Alice bit back the immediate response to his comment about them being nothing alike. Regardless of anything else she wasn’t going to out Tyler as a vampire. Not to anyone let alone a relative stranger. Even if he did seem nice enough. Kurt reached out with one hand toward him, and Alice watched carefully for any sign of the claws she knew he might have gotten as part of Logan’s legacy along with the healing factor. So far she hadn’t seen anything but she wasn’t sure when they might develop if they were going to. “I think I’ll have to go with your feeling on that one since I’ve just met you.” She gave him a brief flash of a smile.

“If you don’t mind my taking my spot back in front of you I think I’ll be fine.”

***

Kyle turned his attention to Kurt as he reached out a hand and he offered him a warm smile. “Hey lil guy,” he wiggled his fingers in response and even let Kurt take a hold of them and explore them as much as he wanted. “And by all means, help yourself to your spot in front of me.” He had no issues with that, not at all.

He wasn’t actually in any rush.

***

Kurt let out a happy type of gurgling sound as he squeezed Kyle’s fingers as Alice stepped back into line, watching her son with a soft smile as she saw him making a new friend. “Thanks. From both of us.”
