Every day that passed, Kara became more and more confident with both herself and her abilities. Aside from the attempted robbery at the cafe, she had stopped a few more situations from escalating, all in the name of Supergirl. It gave her a rush every time; even something as simple as saving a cat from a tree which she had done just the day before. In a way, she was looking forward to the next big thing to hit the OC, because after her encounter with the dragon that had tried to take over Tony’s bedroom, she felt like she could do anything.
Of course she didn’t go places looking for crimes to stop and to be completely honest, she was still somewhat clumsy at times such as at this particular moment when she was attempting to maneuver her way through tables at another cafe and bumped into one where another girl was currently sitting, “I’m so sorry.”
The bump had Wanda accidentally knocking over her glass of water, almost about to spill before a tendril of red pulled it back and Wanda instantly clamped her hand on the glass to try and play it off. Her telekinesis was exceptionally new, and she was slightly more at ease with that rather than her mind controlling powers, but it didn’t make it less weird.
She’d been trying to keep things underwraps, she took the time to go to places she didn’t always go hoping that it would mean no one would recognise her to talk to, but it didn’t control the rest of the people in the area. “It’s okay, it’s fine.” She wanted to just wave things off, keeping her head down while scanning to see if anyone noticed the flare of red mist.
Anyone else might not have noticed the tendril of energy that righted the cup, but Kara did and her blue eyes widened behind her glasses, “Oh my god.” Without even realizing it, she had sat down across from the other woman, “You have powers too?” She asked, trying to keep her voice low so as not to attract any attention to them, “Are you a superhero? My name’s Kara.” She knew she was beginning to ramble, but when Kara got excited she had a tendency to do that.
As the other woman took the seat, Wanda tried not to look too startled, although she knew that public spaces would lead to someone seeing her power, she was mostly caught on the too part of Kara’s question, choosing to linger on that rather than the question of if she were a superhero.
Since Wanda was sure she was the opposite of a hero.
“My name is Wanda.” At the very least, it didn’t seem like Kara was scared. “You have powers? Mine are… I have telekinesis.” Among other things, but that was the one she was choosing to focus on at least.
Kara nodded, an excited smile crossing her lips, “I do. I have a few actually.” She had known that there were others on the Network who had abilities, but she hadn’t really met many of them. There was Tony of course and Cisco and Barry, but there were still so many others that she didn’t know so meeting Wanda was rather exciting to her, “It’s nice to meet you, Wanda. How long have you had abilities?” It had taken Kara awhile to get the hang of some of her abilities, but as she had continued to dream they had become easier and easier to control.
Wanda tried to think back, working out when her powers shifted from the dreams to the world, “About two weeks,” although that had been when she’d first started hearing the whispers, the crawling, inching consciousness of those around her, telling her what they feared the most, what she could use to control and manipulate people.
“I haven’t used them much,” she hadn’t used her telepathy at all, firmly shutting the door to keep it tied in, but the telekinesis, that was slightly easier. “It leaves such an obvious trail, and many people are not used to this.” The wisps of red smoke that followed her power would undoubtedly make many people uneasy, and Wanda didn’t want to be at the centre of that. “How long have you had yours?”
Kara’s brows rose slightly as Wanda revealed how long she’d had her abilities, “Oh wow. Only two weeks? Is that the only thing you can do so far?” Kara didn’t mean to ask so many questions, but she was excited, “I’ve had mine for different amounts of time, but they started manifesting about two years ago.” Her super strength had come first then her other abilities had manifested at different times over the last two years.
“I just started dreaming about them, so far it’s just the telekinesis.” She felt a little bad lying, but she didn’t want to frighten anyone or get those looks. I can control your fears, that’d go down a treat with people for sure. Especially anyone who happened to know she dreamed of being a villain in her life.
“Two years is a long time,” did that mean Kara had been dreaming for that long? Longer? “Do you… I mean, your control with them, does that build with dreaming of them? Or have you had to learn it all over again here?” Because Wanda didn’t want to have to live in a box away from people, she was taking a risk living with Hayley, but then Hayley was a hybrid, so it seemed like she had some suitable defences against anything that Wanda might accidentally do, and vice versa.
“Control did come with more dreams,” Which Kara was incredibly grateful for. She did have to use a little of her own control at first, before she had more knowledge about them from the dreams, but the more dreams she’d had, the easier it had gotten to control her abilities, “So I’d assume it’ll be the same for you.” At least she hoped so, for Wanda’s sake.
“In the dreams, I have control, not complete control, but a lot more than here.” But she’d been kept in a plexiglass cell to master control while getting a little more unstable by the day. Possibly why she was more inclined towards super villainy than heroism. “My therapist advised learning, or trying to, but I’m not even sure how to start.” Especially not when it came to certain powers.
“How did you learn, here? Before the dreams helped.”
“Mostly, I just tried really hard to keep control.” Kara said, thinking back to when her abilities first began to crossover, “One of mine is super strength so I had to try really hard at first to not break things.” And Kara had broken things, which had been hard to explain to Alex at first, “Same thing when it came to my heat vision.”
Heat vision, that gave Wanda pause for a moment. She couldn’t imagine having the wing the control aspect of that, worrying constantly about accidentally burning a hole in something just because you looked at it. “That must’ve been hard.” Wanda struggled to stay out of people’s minds, she couldn’t really consider having to worry about her strength or vision or whatever else all the time like Kara must have to. “How many… I mean, how many powers do you have?”
Keeping her voice down, and sort of staying low to the table like it would hide her, Wanda wondered if Kara’s powers all hit her at once or gradually through time.
Kara nodded, “It was at first, but I’ve got it under control now.” When the question was asked about how many powers she had, Kara had to stop and think about it for a moment. “About two dozen or so, I think.” She had never actually had to think about exactly how many powers she had since some of them were sort of lumped together in various ways and not all of them had hit her one at a time.
There wasn’t really a response to that, Wanda couldn’t think to say anything to Kara’s admittance. Beyond the types of powers, getting used to that many just cropping up constantly, Wanda would probably lose her mind.
The telepathy was hard enough for her to deal with, if she had two dozen powers she’d likely take out half the state. “That must be stressful.”
Kara nodded, “It can be. I mean even though I have it all mostly under control I still worry that I might accidentally hurt someone with my heat vision or forget about my super strength and break something.” She shrugged a little, “But it’s not like I can give the powers back, so I just have to deal with them.”
Can’t give them back, that was for sure, and sometimes Wanda wasn’t sure if that was good or not. All these people in the world who could do all these things, what if some had powers that were so much worse than hers? What if people didn’t try to control their powers at all?
Wanda spun the salt shaker in front of her around, pondering what Kara was saying, contemplating the likelihood that everyone with powers was going to be responsible. Maybe that was why other people needed to be more responsible. “I just hope I can managed to control mine.”
“I’m sure the control will come to you.” Kara had been worried about her own control in the beginning, but now she barely needed to think about it. “And there are lots of people with abilities here who could probably help you.” Having any sort of support system helped with anything so why wouldn’t it help when it came to controlling super powers?
Wanda just had to hope that control would come, maybe easier and quicker if she was lucky, but she wasn’t holding her breath. “I think I know one, it’s just, getting the courage to ask her.” Surely though, Wanda could ask Natasha. Provided the redhead wasn’t holding Wanda’s use of her powers on her against her. “But it’s good to know that others have been through it, and that they’ve come out the other side.”
Kara didn’t seem to be hiding herself away, something that Wanda might’ve done if heat vision had been a risk.
