Who: Tim Riggins and Jessica Moore What: Candy and alcohol shopping When: Just after Easter Where: Grocery Store Rating/Warning: Low/None Status: Complete
The best part of Easter was always the day after as far as Jess was concerned. The candy was half off and maybe there weren’t any giant chocolate bunnies left but there were plenty of small ones in the store. Or there had been before she’d started filling up the cart. “I swear if you get jellybeans you can walk back to campus. Well unless they’re the Starburst kind. Any word on if your friend is working at the store before we head over there to pick up beers and whatever else?” She asked turning to look at her friend as she reached for a bag of the mars chocolate mix.

Tim really didn’t care about the candy. He was in this for the beer. But if Jess wanted to get cheap candy he wasn’t going to stop her. Especially if it meant he wouldn’t be drinking alone later. Not that he really minded drinking alone. It was just more fun to drink with company sometimes.
“Wasn’t planning on it,” Tim replied. “I’ll leave the candy picking to you,” he added with a grin, brushing his hair out of his face. “Yeah. We’re covered.” He also had a fake ID that he had yet to have an issue with. So he was pretty sure they were covered no matter what.

“In that case - we’re getting all the chocolate.” Jess told him as she reached to the back of the shelf to grab another bag. “And no - I’m not sharing with any of my sisters. They can buy their own chocolate. Or have their boyfriends buy it for them.” She said with a roll of her eyes. She honestly couldn’t understand the obsession with having a boyfriend. It was more fun being free to go where she wanted, when she wanted and with whoever she wanted.
“Good. Because I think we also need some whiskey or something.”

“You know,” Tim commented as Jess piled more candy into the cart. “I still don’t see how you’re part of a sorority.” It just seemed so opposite of her personality. “But I’m glad you did,” he added with a smirk. While Tim was certainly no frat bro, he did go to the parties. Free beer? He was there. And having Jess around gave him someone sane to talk to.
“We always need whiskey,” Tim commented with a smirk waiting for Jess to finish picking all her candy so they could head over to the liquor isle.

“Oh I cheated - I’m a legacy so they had to accept me. My mom was a sister when she was in college.” Jess told him with a grin. “It beat living in the dorm. The whole hairband on the doorknob? Did not work for me with my roommate there.” She told him as she pushed their cart away from the candy display. She could have lived without some of the bullshit the sisters tried to pull on her, but it wasn’t all that bad. The parties were fun, and hanging out with Tim made them even better because one person who wasn’t a complete slave to the Greek system.
“I still argue that I did not drink the majority of the last bottle. The house is haunted and the ghost must have been stealing some when we weren’t looking.”
***
“Ah,” Tim commented. “So now I know the real reason.” Which he couldn’t blame her for. Being in a dorm could be a bit much. Tim liked his privacy. But at least his roommate was decent enough. No real issues yet. And his roommate did get the whole sock on the door thing.
“Uh huh,” Tim said once they reached the aisle. He placed a case of beer in the cart. “And tonight there’s going to be another ghost stealing all the alcohol.” Also known as Tim Riggins.
***
“What did you think the reason was?” Jess asked, looking at him out of the corner of her eye as he started filling the cart with the alcohol.
“Prove that it didn’t? And if you’re planning a double haunting maybe we should get two bottles.” She told him, reaching for the beer she preferred to add to their pile of purchases. She had her credit card and would pass it to him if needed. Good thing the receipts weren’t itemized.

“That you were actually a society girl,” Tim replied with a smirk. “Just lying to impress me,” he joked. He really hadn’t thought much about it. But she had always seemed very out of place at all the events. But then again so was he. At least he didn’t join a fraternity though. He was mostly there for the free beer.
“Two bottles it is.” Like Tim would ever say no to more alcohol.
***
Jess gave him a dirty look when he said he’d thought she was a society girl. “I cannot believe you ever thought that lowly of me.” She said pretending to be scandalized before starting to giggle. She never would have joined if it hadn’t been for the fact she was a legacy and could live in the house.
“What else do we want besides the whiskey and beer?” It was never a question of if they wanted more than their normal choices but what it would be.
***
“That was before I knew you,” Tim replied with a smirk. He was glad she was nothing like that. Tim needed to be around people that didn’t give a shit about social status. He was pretty popular back in high school being one of the stars of the football team, but he had never cared about that. He just wanted to play football…and also get drunk.
“More beer,” Tim suggested. Because really whiskey and beer were his drinks of choice. Depended on his mood if he wanted the hard stuff or not.
***
“I’ll give you a pass on it then.” Jess told him, pausing a moment before continuing. “Don’t take advantage of it though.” She teased. She loved finding ways to torture her sorority sisters by showing them just how little she cared about their stupid traditions. Staying just inside the actual rules that meant they couldn’t kick her out.
“Your favorite or mine?”
***
“Of my pass?” Tim questioned with a brow raise, smirk on his face. “Never,” he joked. He was clearly going to take advantage whenever he could. “Mine.”
***
Jess laughed at that response from him. She wasn't fooled for one second by his claims of not taking advantage of it.
"Why am I not surprised by that answer?"
***
“Because,” Tim replied with a small shrug. “You know me.”
***
“I hate it when you’re right. You know that don’t you?” Jess asked as she grabbed another case of his beer.
***
“So all the time?” Tim replied smirking.
Once Jess put the case in the shopping cart Tim’s smirk turned into a smile. “Now let’s get out of here.” They had candy to eat and alcohol to drink.
