Anakin sat with his back against the tree at the edge for the camp ground clearing. The fire had long since died, but he didn’t need the light. He saw more in the dark now than he did a year ago. A gift from the Force.

Padmé was in the tent sleeping.

Somehow, in one of their conversations, probably something that started with talking about the circus, camping had come up and Padmé had suggested they go camping before he started his new job on Wednesday.

So here they were.

Anakin had tried to go to sleep, had stayed in the tent and talked to Padmé until she’d fallen asleep, and then he’d come out here. He didn’t want to sleep now, in case some unpleasant memory came to him tonight. Plus, it was a good night to stare up at the stars. A year ago, they were a symbol of fanciful dreams. Now they were a tangible part of his life.

He heard rustling from inside the tent.

“Padmé? Are you awake?”
