Tyler generally enjoyed his weekly movie dates with Caroline, even if her taste in movies tended to leave something to be desired. Occasionally, she let him pick out the movie, and that was alright. It was wasn’t easy all the time to watch these romantic movies with someone he wanted to be romantic with, but who didn’t want the same thing. Sometimes, he wondered if the whole point was Caroline hinting that he should make a move, but … well, she’d made it pretty clear that that wasn’t what she was looking for. The credits for No Strings Attached began to roll, and he turned to look at Caroline.
“At least this one was better than the Notebook,” Tyler said, grinning toothily at her.
Caroline had been spending a lot of time with Tyler lately. As friends. She even went to Easter at his mom’s. But whatever, it beat being alone. And at least no peeps came tumbling out of her mouth this time. And of course there were the weekly movies. Which Caroline had to admit was her favorite part of the week.
“Shut up!” Caroline replied at Tyler’s comment tossing a pillow at him. “I know you loved The Notebook.”
Tyler laughed, fending off the pillow with his arms. “Hey, you don’t have to take it so hard! It’s not my fault you’re just way too into chick flicks. You don’t have to -” he reached behind him for one of the other throw pillows, and as he swung it at Caroline, finished with “attack me about it.”
“Hey!” Caroline protested picking up a pillow and swinging it at him. “You’re the one insulting my taste in movies!” she protested. “Just who do you think is attacking who here?” she swung the pillow at him again even putting some of her vampire strength behind it. She knew he could take it though. Being a hybrid and all.
The pillow split across Tyler’s face, raining down upon the two of them, though thanks to his supernatural durability it didn’t hurt at all. “Oh, now you’ve done it,” Tyler said, with a falsely threatening voice. He tossed his pillow into her face to obscure her line of sight, and then dove at her, his fingers finding their way to her ribs so that he could tickle her.
Okay maybe she had hit him a little too hard, what with the pillows floating all about them now, getting on her clothes and hair. However the next thing she knew Tyler was throwing a pillow in her face. She was about to protest when he started to tickle her. “Stop,” Caroline objected laughing and wiggling around trying to escape his hands. She caught them with hers pinning him him down on the couch.
Tyler only gave a superficial struggle against her, and then, before he knew it, she was on top of him, pinning him down on the couch. It wasn’t a conscious thought that had him twist his hands, twining his fingers with hers, but before he realized it that was exactly what had happened, and his grin faded into a more serious expression as he looked up at her, his heart thumping in his chest.
Caroline didn’t pull away when Tyler’s fingers laced with hers. She just stayed their, on top of him her hands holding his. Those big blue eyes of hers focussed on Tyler, first on his eyes, then his lips. Before she knew what she was doing Caroline leaned down farther, crashing her lips into his.
Tyler hadn’t expected Caroline to kiss him, but at the same time, he wasn’t surprised either. Being a vampire, or a hybrid in his case, could send hormones into overdrive and maybe, he could admit to himself, it was only going to be a matter of time before this happened. He didn’t know what it would mean for afterward, but right now, he didn’t especially care. He kissed her back, letting go of one of her hands so that he could pull her closer into him, and then flipped so that Caroline was underneath him on the couch. He broke the kiss so that he could instead leave a trail of kisses down her neck.
Caroline let go of all the things that had been holding her back. She didn’t think about what Tyler had done, about how much pain he had caused her and others. No. All she could think about at the moment was how much she loved Tyler, how badly she wanted him.
She let out a breath feeling his lips on her neck, shivers of pleasure coursing throughout her body. Caroline’s hands moved to his waist, slipping under his shirt so she could feel all those muscles of his. Man, she had missed this body. She tugged at the shirt pulling it up to his shoulders, once he pulled back enough she yanked it up off his head tossing it aside. Her lips found his once again, hands roaming over his back.
Tyler had missed this. He had known that for the last few months, but he didn’t realize how much he had missed it until now. He went to pull Caroline’s shirt off too, accidentally tearing it as he pulled it over her head. “Whoops,” he murmured. into Caroline’s mouth, without much remorse.
Caroline didn’t care about her ripped shirt. Hell she didn’t even notice it was ripped. She was too wrapped up in the moment. In Tyler. Her hands moved down his body, finding the waistband of his jeans, she slid them around to the front so she could undo the button and zipper.
Tyler helped Caroline pull off his jeans, and then, without breaking their locked lips, he picked her up, his hands under her ass, so that he could carry her toward her bedroom.
Caroline completely gave herself over to Tyler. Letting herself enjoy the moment. It had been too long and she missed him too much. Her body ached for him and that showed in the way she touched him, in the way she kissed him, in all of it.
And then it was over, Caroline laid in her bed staring up at the ceiling. Not sure what to say or do now that the lust was taken care of. “So….”
Since becoming a hybrid, there wasn’t a lot that made Tyler need to catch his breath, but as he laid there beside Caroline, he was breathing heavier, a thin sheen of sweat on his brow.
“So,” Tyler said, rolling onto his side and propping his head up on his elbow so that he could gaze at Caroline’s face. “So,” he said, reaching for her hand.
Caroline allowed him to grab on to her hand, intertwining her fingers with his, but she remained looking up at the ceiling. She couldn’t look at Tyler right now. If she did she might just end up kissing him again. And Caroline needed answers first. She knew she couldn’t do casual with Tyler, but she also wasn’t supposed to be with him. Only now that she had given in she wasn’t sure she could go back.
“So,” Caroline said again. “That happened.”
“Yeah,” Tyler said. Despite the fact that Caroline had taken his hand, the fact that she still wasn’t looking at him didn’t exactly bode well, and he hoped that he hadn’t misread the situation.
He stayed quiet for a couple beats longer, and then swallowed. “So, I was thinking that maybe it might happen again,” he said, feigning confidence. “On a more regular, exclusive level.” Or, maybe he was just hoping for the impossible.
Although Caroline’s heart did a flip at his words, Caroline remained staring at the ceiling for a moment, biting down on her lower lip as she processed everything. Slowly she turned her head to look at him. “Oh?” she asked raising a brow a playful smile on her face. “More exclusive?” Caroline questioned. “Or completely exclusive?”
“Well, I’m not sleeping with anyone else right now,” Tyler said. He had, when they’d first broken up, gone home with a couple of good-looking blondes, but not since he and Caroline had become friends again. He knew that he wasn’t cheating on her - you couldn’t cheat on someone who you weren’t dating - but it still felt that way somehow. “But I was thinking completely exclusive? I know I screwed up Care, and I can’t say I’m sorry enough. But… I hope that you can forgive me someday.”
“It wasn’t your fault,” Caroline said squeezing Tyler’s hand. “Klaus-” she didn’t finish that thought. She didn’t exactly want to talk about Klaus or about what Tyler had done after. Because turning off his humanity was his choice. Which was something Caroline still had trouble looking past.
“Tyler,” she said instead her voice soft. “I clearly can’t just be friends with you.”
“I don’t want to be friends with you,” Tyler admitted. “If it’s the only way to keep you in my life, well, being friends with you is better than not being friends with you. But Caroline, I’m in love with you. Completely, head over heels in love with you, and I don’t think I ever won’t be.”
Caroline’s heart did another flip. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t dying to hear those exact words from Tyler since he had broken up with her a few months ago. She looked over at him, eyes warm. “I love you too,” she said softly. “Always have.”
Tyler leaned down and kissed her, cupping her face with a hand. He’d heard her say it before, more than once, but he didn’t remember ever feeling so relieved to hear her say it. He wondered if now that they made up was the best time to tell her that he was going to be leaving for three weeks, but he figured there probably wasn’t a better time.
“It’s too bad,” he said playfully, his tone making it obvious he wasn’t being serious. “And here I was thought I’d get to hook up with some hot Texans in a couple of weeks.”
Wait. What?!
“Texans?” Caroline questioned the moment temporarily broken. “Why would you be hooking up with Texans?”
“Hey, I just said I wouldn’t be hooking up with Texans,” Tyler said, and then grew a little more serious. “I actually have to go to Texas next week for a work thing. I know it’s bad timing…” All Tyler wanted to do right now was spend as much time with Caroline as he could.
“You’re leaving?” Caroline asked frown forming on her face. She had just gotten Tyler back. Well if he even was back. What they were was still a bit unclear. But still she didn’t want him to leave.
"Yeah," Tyler said, gently caressing her cheek with his knuckles. "Only for three weeks though." Not that that was necessarily a short time, as revealed by the slight grimace, but it was better to frame it that way. "I'll be back before you even realize I'm gone."
Caroline turned her head so she could place a kiss on Tyler’s palm. “Trust me,” Caroline said her eyes wide as she looked over at Tyler. “I’ll notice.” And yeah three weeks wasn’t that long in the grand scheme of things. Not when they were going to live forever. But it sure seemed like a hell of a long time when she just got him back.
"I promise I'll call every day," Tyler said. Even if there were extenuating circumstances in the Dreams, his Dream self had never been great at communicating when he'd leave Mystic Falls. There weren't any of those circumstances here, and he was determined to be better than his dream self regardless.
“And no sleeping with Texans,” Caroline said needing to hear it again. “Or anyone else for that matter.”
"And no sleeping with Texans. Or anyone else for that matter," Tyler echoed, and then grinned and kissed her, deeply. "Except you."
