WHO: Derek and Cora WHEN: Sunday night WHERE: Cora’s place WHAT: Hanging out WARNINGS: None STATUS: Complete
After spending the day with their mother, Derek drove Cora back to her place. Agreeing to stay a bit longer with his baby sister. So after coming in and getting settled he sat on the couch and before she could say anything he opened his mouth first.
“So.. I was shot with a gun… a cold gun about a week ago.” Sure, it wasn't the best way to start a conversation, but it was the first time he's ever been shit at, and the whole thing still bothered him.
*
Today had gone pretty well, thank god. There was a tiny part of Cora that worried that something bad might happen, but nothing did happen and now she was finally back home with Derek in tow.
She had barely set her purse down and was just about to ask if he wanted anything to drink when he spoke. She slowly turned around and stared at him for a moment. How was she supposed to take that? Part of her was hoping that he was okay and the other part wanted to laugh at him. “How…how in the hell did that happen?”
*
Derek knew he should have gone a different route, but it was out there now. “ Was trying to leave Stiles place when his roommate shot me with the fucking thing… I shifted out of reaction and it took every ounce of me not to tear into him…”
His head hung low as his hands came over his head for the moment. Luckily he didn't hurt Cisco, but the amount of will power it took to it leap was scary.
*
“Why was Stiles’ roommate shooting you in the first place?” None of this made any sense. It felt like Cora had been thrust into the middle of a story. “And what in the hell is a cold gun? Actually, stop. Rewind. Let’s start from the beginning here because right now none of this is making any sense.” She grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him into the living room and then made him sit down on the couch before taking a seat herself.
* He was dragged. Sure he could stop her but what was the point. Once seated he exhaled deeply. “Stiles invited me over. Showed up and Cisco had a gun pointed at me. Said he was sorry and put the gun away in a briefcase to take back to work I guess.”
He shrugged his shoulders.
“He needed help, we told him he needed help because that shit ain't normal do. He snapped and said I've been taking Stiles away or someshit. Like you said, spending lotta time with him.” he ran his hand over his face.
“I went to leave and he fucking shot at my legs and like the name said my legs got frozen up to my knees. I shifted out of anger and ripped the ice from my legs.”
*
Cora listened as Derek told her what happened from the beginning. Now she didn’t feel so lost. “Is his roommate jealous or something?” Because that’s what it sounded like. Why else would this guy feel the need to shoot Derek? “Well, you didn’t rip him to shreds. Maybe you’re getting a better handle on yourself.” She had a feeling if this had happened weeks ago, he might have actually shredded the poor guy. “Sooooo, I guess this means that you’re not going over to Stiles’ place anymore, huh?”
* “I dunno. Guy needs help though.” he said shaking his head. “No, I told Stiles to come to my place for a bit.” he said looking to Cora. “Might not have, but I still shifted instantly. That was nerve wrecking.”
*
“Clearly.” Whatever was wrong with him, it was clear just by what she heard that the guy needed help. A lot of it. “How did he take that?” She wished that she could do more for Derek, but there really wasn’t much she could do when it came to his werewolf side. He just needed to keep all of that in check. “I bet it was. But you did good even if you might think you didn’t.”
* “He gets it . He was there.” he said shaking his head. “Sometimes I just wish I was normal again. Not.. this.” he said gesturing to himself.
*
Cora sighed. “I wish you didn’t have to deal with it either.” She wished that she could do something about it, but there wasn’t anything she could do. It was those stupid dreams. She was still glad that she hadn’t had any of them so far. “But you’re you. You’ll figure it out and live with it.”
* He sighed once again. “Yeah, I know… just freaks me out. I mean how the fuck can I have a relationship with someone and explain this?” He glanced over at Cora for a moment.
* “I don’t know,” she honestly said. “But I guess you really don’t have to worry about that right now since you’re messing around with Stiles.”
* He nodded his head. “You got a point there.” looking over to her. Anyways, tell me about Paris, why the trip?” He asked wanting to change the subject quickly.
*
“Of course I do,” she said with a smile. “Well, at first it was for work. But I decided to stay longer. And when I found out about the dragons I invited Katniss to join me. We did a lot of eating and shopping. So much shopping. She bought so many macaroons, it lined the whole bottom of her suitcase.”
* “And who is Katniss?” He asked with a quirked brow and a smile. It sounds like her getaway went well. Just like his did. Thank god. “And you didn't bring me any macaroons. I'm hurt.” he said clutching his chest playfully.
*
“She moved here a few months ago. Although, I think we’ve met before at one of those fancy parties we used to get dragged to when we were kids.” She still hadn’t asked Katniss about that. Maybe she should. “Hey, if you want one, ask her. I think she was giving them away right after we got back because she grabbed so many of them.”
* He nodded his head as he listened. “Pretty sure they’re bad by this point.” he said with a smirk. “I am glad you weren't here for the crazy though.” he said with a faint smile.
*
Cora shrugged. “Trust me, I was happy not to be here as well. I don’t mind seeing dragons on my Tv or in books, but I do not want to deal with them in person. At least you got away from the crazy as well. Hopefully nothing crazy like that happens here for a long while.”
* “From what we've dealt with. The crazy train here doesn't stop.” he sighed as he ran his hand through his hair. “Least dinner went good.” he said with a smirk on his lips as he nudged her shoulder.
*
“Yeah, I know. It’s wishful thinking.” Cora knew something strange always happened, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t wish for noncraziness. “It did,” she said, nudging Derek back. “I had been a little worried it might go sideways. But I’m so happy that it went the way that it went.”
*
Derek laughed at the nudge. “Dad behaved himself. Pretty sure mom told him too. Just don’t expect me there for Father’s dad. Now you’d be asking for a lot.” He replied with a smirk as he tossed her hair playfully. “HAve you heard from, Laura?” He asked, since she wasn’t at dinner.
*
“That’s what surprised me. I kept waiting for him to say something that would ruin everything.” And thank god he hadn’t. She couldn’t help but wonder what their mom told him. It had to be something good if he held his tongue all throughout dinner. “I know. I wouldn’t expect you to show up for that.” She knew Derek and their dad would never get along. “Um, no. She’s probably just really busy with work.”
*
He nodded at her answer about Laura as he yawned a bit. “I better head to the apartment, before it gets too late.” He said coming to a stand and stretching his legs and arms out a bit before patting his pockets for the car keys.
*
“Okay,” Cora said as she too stood up. Once he stopped searching for his keys, she pulled him into a hug and said, “I’m glad you came today.”
* He returned the hugs and kissed the top of her head. “Yeah, I’ll come by more often. Get some sleep.” he said jingling his keys a moment before leaving her place and heading to the car to head home for the night
