Who: Yue Katou and Tim Riggins What: Tim's drinking, Katou invites himself to join When: Recent! Where: The beach Rating/Warnings: Low/none Status: Complete
Tim wasn’t sure how he felt about the beach. It was nice and all, but he didn’t get what all the hype was about. Give him an open field any day. Even some smelly cattle. Man, he really missed Texas. Especially now that football season was over and all he had to focus on were his boring ass classes. He was doing his best to stick it out though. Make Billy and Jason proud.
However, that required drinking. A lot of drinking. Which was precisely why Tim found himself on the beach with a six pack, staring at the waves. He took a long swig of his beer, yeah he still didn’t get it.
All in all, Katou didn’t mind the beach. He’d never learned to swim, and he assumed that it would be even more of an impossibility now that one of his arms was made of metal, though it looked human now thanks to Zatanna’s glamour, but the beach was still nice. At least, it was when it wasn’t filled with idiots.
Right now though, the beach seemed pretty empty, and so he walked along it on his way to Michael’s. Empty, that is, except for the lone person sitting on the beach knocking back beers.
Katou was in a pretty good mood, all in all. Michael was finally able to leave his house, at least at nighttime, and so he walked up to the guy, sat down next to him, and helped himself to one of his beers. “What’re we celebrating?” he asked, cracking open the top and taking a sip before the other guy could protest.
Tim raised a brow as the guy came up next to him. He wasn’t expecting company. And certainly not company that just helped themselves to one of his beers. Good thing he brought the whole six pack.
“Who said I was celebrating?” he asked with another swallow from his bottle. Though he didn’t yell at the guy for taking one of his beers. Maybe Tim needed the company.
“I did,” Katou said, and then offered a hand for a handshake. “Katou, by the way. So, what is it? Sweet date? Cool sunrise? Cold beer?”
“Tim,” he replied shaking the man’s hand with his free hand. After he released it he raised up his bottle in a half cheers. “Cold beer,” he said in answer to the man’s question before taking a long swallow from his bottle. That was as good of a reason as any to drink if you asked Tim. “You live around here?”
“To cold beer then,” Katou said, raising his pilfered can for a cheers. “Naw, I don’t. But my,” there was only the slightest hesitation in Katou’s voice, near seamless as he switched words from his brain to his mouth, “buddy lives nearby though. I was just headed over there, but figured he’d understand if I stopped for a beer or two with my new pal Tim.”
Tim noticed the pause. “Not sure he’s your buddy?” Tim asked taking another sip of his beer. “Is he kind of like your new pal tim?” he added with a smirk. Because really Tim had just met the guy and he was already calling him a pal.
“Something like that,” Katou said, though it wasn’t exactly. It was easier than trying to dance around the whole boyfriend thing though. Maybe Katou was willing to admit he was gay to himself, but that was stuff he’d rather keep to himself. Kanan, Carolina, Jack and Wendy all knew, but none of them were around anymore. Seemed like every time he told someone, they ended up fucking off. “Except I like him more,” he added with a smirk. “You from around here?”
“Damn,” Tim replied with a grin of his own. “I’m almost insulted,” he joked. Though really he would hope he liked some ‘buddy’ that he already knew than a guy he just met. “Texas, born and raised.” And damn proud of it. Tim took another swig of his beer. “Just out here for school.”
“School, huh?” Katou asked. He’d never really been one for school. He’d failed more than one grade in regular school and hadn’t even bothered thinking about college. Besides, why would he need to now that he had a sweet job fighting monsters whenever the cropped up. “Whatcha taking?”
Tim was right there with Katou. He hated the actual school part of school, always had. Back in high school he had the cheerleaders do his homework for him. Now he was barely passing his classes but whatever at least he was doing the thing. Going to college like Street wanted. “Hell if I know,” Tim replied with a smirk taking another swallow of beer.
Katou snorted into his beer. “You’re one of ‘em real studious types, ain’tcha?” he asked, smirking at Tim. “Calling it now. One of ‘em nerds who’s always got their nose in a book. Maybe DnD on the weekends.”
“D and what?” Tim replied a look of complete confusion on his face. He had never even heard of that. He took another swallow from his bottle eyes looking out at the waves. Yeah, he still didn’t get what was so great about the whole beach thing.
“Nevermind, it’s some nerd thing,” Katou said, grinning. He’d never played DnD before, but he was a little surprised that there were actually people out there that hadn’t heard of it before. “So, you just chilling out here watching the waves roll in?”
Right. Well Tim was glad that subject was dropped. He new next to nothing about ‘nerd things’ clearly. And he preferred to keep it that way. “Yeah,” he said in response to Katou’s question. “Seemed as good of reason as any to have a few beers.”
“Hey, works for me,” Katou said, finishing his beer and reaching for another one. “Maybe next time I’ll buy the beer.” For now though, he was pretty alright with stealing this guy’s.
