Who: Elena and Klaus What: Drinks When: Recent Where: Random bar Status: Complete Rating: Low
It was another night of drinking for Klaus. Nothing unusual for the original hybrid. After feeding off some pretty blonde in the alley he made his way into the bar. As he got closer to the actual bar he recognized someone. This was the second time he had seen the brunette out in a matter of weeks. She looked much better than last time. Not quite so hungry, or scared for that matter.
With a grin Klaus made his way over, taking the stool next to her. “Scotch, neat,” he told the bartender. “And whatever she’s having is on me,” he added giving Elena a smirk. As the bartender went to prepare his drink Klaus turned his full attention on the new vampire. “What brings you out tonight, love?”
Elena raised her glass in return before taking a long sip. “I can’t hide from this,” she answered. “I can’t pretend it’s not happening by burying my head in the sand. I need to get used to it all. The hunger, the way everything is more heightened because if I don’t…” She actually would wind up killing someone.
“And since alcohol sublimates the hunger…” Caroline’s words. There she was at the bar.
“Still having a problem with that?” He figured Elena would have gotten used to blood bags or bunnier or some shit by now. He didn’t know what that group fed on, nor did he really care. There was a reason he wasn’t friends with any of them… though he did miss having Tyler around, not that he’d ever admit it.
“I know you didn’t have any issues adjusting.” It wasn’t said meanly or with any show of attitude. Elena was merely stating fact. “But it’s going to be a little while until this feels normal to me. So I’m forcing myself to go out and be around people until I stop thinking about how weird it all is.”
“At least you’re trying,” Klaus said with a shug. His drink was brought over and Klaus immediately took a long swallow. “Can’t stay locked up in your house forever. That’s no way to live.” Another sip of his drink. “But it seems you already know that.”
“I do,” she confirmed. “But it’s nice to hear.” Especially from him. Especially given how they had left things. “And what brings you to the bar?” Most people usually had a reason - good or bad - for going to a bar.
“Best way to end the day,” Klaus replies with a shrug. Well there were other better ways that involved gorgeous woman that he’d never see again. But he had a feeling Elena didn’t want to hear about that. “Didn’t realize I needed more of a reason,” he teased, tone light.
“You don’t.” Most people did but then again Klaus Mikaelson was not most people. And Elena knew enough to not even say that most had reasons. It would only make him defensive. “But it’s nice to not be drinking alone.”
“Anytime you need someone to drink with,” Klaus replied. “You know where to find me.” At his gallery most likely. Or at a bar if he was already drinking. “I must admit it is nice to have a bit of company tonight.” Klaus himself usually drank alone. At least now that he couldn’t drag Tyler along with him anymore. Of course he indulged in a drink with his siblings from time to time. But that was usually at one of their homes. Not out at a bar like this.
“I wouldn’t have thought you lacked for company,” Elena almost teased. He could be very charming when he wanted to be, though he may not keep that company for long, given how his attitude could turn on a dime.
“Company of substance,” he clarified. Or that he didn’t compel. Though Klaus did get his fair share of both men and women without the compulsion. They just didn’t challenge him. And Niklaus Mikaelson enjoyed a good challenge.
“And I fall into that category?” One eyebrow raised. After their last tussle, Elena was honestly surprised at that, She would have thought disdain would be the word Klaus used to describe his feelings toward her. “I’m flattered.”
“Of course, love,” Klaus replied. “Why do you think I’m sitting here?” he asked giving her one of his more charming smiles before taking another sip of his drink.
“I’d say pity but I think we both know that’s not a motivating factor for you.” It was something of a superficial connection: shallow, and with depth. And yet she was enjoying it. The charm was appreciated. “Thank you.” It was said sincerely.
No. Niklaus Mikaelson didn’t do pity. He didn’t do a lot of emotions, other than rage, paranoia and jealousy. “Nothing to thank me for,” Klaus replied taking another sip of his drink, charming smirk on his face. “Just stating the facts.”
“No need but I appreciate it nonetheless. And thank you for the drink.” She raised her glass to him, taking a long sip. “How is the gallery doing?’
“Better than ever,” Klaus said proudly. It was even more successful than the one he lost back in New Orleans. Take that Marcel. “And med school?”
“I’m glad to hear that.” She really didn’t wish him ill. “And it’s going well,” Elena acknowledged with a smile. “I’m looking at residencies. I’ll be ready to start in a few months. Another few years and I might actually be a doctor.”
“Easy access to blood bags,” Klaus replied with a smirk. “Unless you’re still having an issue with that?” Klaus was well aware of the fact that Elena had only been able to drink from humans just a few weeks ago. Hell he had even been there to help her through it. Helpful and Klaus Mikaelson didn’t exactly go hand in hand.
“For now I’m not going to risk it,” Elena answered. “I would rather just...get used to the basics first and then later figure out how to fine tune things. I’m sure eventually blood bags won’t be an issue.”
“It’s better from the vein, anyway.” Klaus wasn’t a fan of blood bags. He didn’t keep any in his home. Had only tried them once. Half the fun of feeding was the hunt after all. But he knew Elena was different. That had been obvious when she was crying over the prospect of having to feed on someone.
“I suppose it comes down to preference. Like being vegan.” She was smiling as she said it, though. “I’m still a newbie. Pretty soon I’ll be whatever the vampire equivalent of a teenager is, and ready to try new things.” Though never to the extremes or extent Klaus had, she was certain.
“Taking it slow,” Klaus said with a small nod taking another sip of his drink. Not his style, but to each their own he supposed.
“To the journey, not the destination,” Elena toasted, raising her glass. And by taking it slow hopefully she would be able to keep herself in check.
Klaus rose his glass to Elena’s little toast, a smirk on his face. “Cheers, love,” he said before taking a long sip. This night was shaping up to be something entirely different than what Klaus had expected, and he had to admit he was enjoying it.
