As weird as being bound to someone, not Will, for a week had been Nico knew it could have been so much worse. At least he and Feyre hadn’t hated each other like that one girl who’d kept complaining the entire time and her partner seemed to have. And even if he had been upset by how quickly Cesare had taken to the girl it wasn’t her fault, and it was a good thing the picky dog had liked her. Otherwise his greyhound would have made everything so much worse with his behavior. They joked about Cesare being the emperor of their apartment, the ruler, but it wasn’t all that much of a joke. Cesare made it very clear when he didn’t like what was going on even if it didn’t really have anything to do with him. And he’d made it clear that he missed seeing the woman around the apartment so Nico had reached out and asked if she wanted to come over for lunch and to see the dogs. He’d told her the truth - her greyhound friend missed her and was making sure his humans knew it.

***

Feyre had made sure to appeal to the dog, of course. The animal of the house did typically run it. And she had experience in her dreams with dealing with the prickly sort. And a week away from her sisters did wonders for her mood.

But she had really appreciated making a friend out of the experience. Feyre didn’t have many friends; while her sharp exterior had begun to dull, she had been so angry for so long…

Well, Nico had wanted to see her again and she was more than willing to hang out.

Bounced a bag of treats in her hand and knocked on the door.

***

Nico opened the door, calling for Cesare even as he reached down to grab Ziggy’s collar to keep their over excitable retriever from knocking their friend over. “Will vetoed my play of running to McDonald’s to get us nuggets and fries because he’s claiming it’s not real food again so I’m making sandwiches. Because somehow that is real food.” Cesare came around the corner and came over to Feyre and sniffed at the bag in her hand before sniffing at her hand and giving her a happy sounding humph as he leaned against her leg while Ziggy whined and pulled at her. “You two quit acting like we never love on either of you.” He scolded their dogs in Italian as he led the way back inside.

***

“Chicken nuggets is an entire food group,” Feyre protested, rubbing her hand over Cesare’s head and scratching him behind the ear. He really had been the best part of being attached to Nico, though she did like Nico well enough, she supposed.

Cesare was the highlight though. “I love dogs so much.”

***

“That’s what I think but pre-med boyfriend disagrees. And he can make my life pretty miserable when he wants. He knows my parents phone numbers after all. And Madre adores him so I’m convinced she’ll side with him.” Nico said with a grin as he looked back at her.

“So do I. And knowing Cesare as well as I do - you’re probably his favorite person after me. He never takes to people as quickly as he did you. Ziggy...he’s a slut for pettings.” He said, laughing as the puppy plopped down between them and rolled onto his back to show his belly making his best pleading face up at Nico. “You are terrible,” he said, kneeling down beside the golden retriever and loving on him.

***

“That doesn’t sound fair. So I’ll just have to sneak you chicken nuggets when he’s not looking.” Feyre was looking at Cesare while talking, as if promising him all the chicken nuggets he could handle.

It almost made her want a dog. Almost. Pets had never really been a thing for her growing up, even though Feyre was actually the youngest, everyone treated Elain as the most-loved-baby of the family. Mostly because unlike Feyre or Nesta, Elain was actually the sweet sister.

Feyre wasn’t a little bitter about that, no.

“If the puppies will let me get inside they can get some treats.”

***

Nico looked back over his shoulder and whistled, issuing the command in Italian for Cesare to come. Relieved when he heard those fingernails coming down the hall towards him. “The door should lock automatically behind you. It’s forced us to get used to carrying our keys whenever we go out. Even to take out the trash.” Which generally ended up being Nico when he was procrastinating on an assignment.

***

“Thanks,” Feyre said, happy to be inside finally. She kicked her shoes off at the door and stepped into the living area proper as she fiddled with her bag. “I got treats for the both you and also something for your human.”

She made it sound like she’d gotten a doggie treat for Nico too.

***

Nico looked up from where he was scratching Ziggy’s belly with an amused look on his face as he watched their new friend come into the apartment while Cesare sat down beside him, making an obviously annoyed sound. Probably at having been called when he was content to keep getting attention at the front door. “You knew you weren’t supposed to hang out at the door. She’s here to hang out with all three of us you greedy thing.” He said to the dog in Italian, affection obvious even to those who didn’t know the language.

“Do I have to share mine with Will?”

***

Deciding she needed to learn Italian, FEyre shook her head. “Nope, it’s all for you. I made sure to pick up something sweet.”

She’d had to guess a bit at what his favorite donut might be but she’d been stuck there long enough to get an idea of what kind of flavors he’d liked, and Feyre was very observant about that sort of thing.

Feyre liked making sure people were happy. Even when she wasn’t.

***

“Just not too sweet I hope.” Nico said with a smile as he heard her Cesare walk into the room.

“We can have it for dessert after lunch. I wasn’t sure whether you’d want ham or turkey so I got both. And drove Will nuts by arranging it on our Halloween platter. He really should have known I’d use it more than just in October when I bought one shaped like a head for deli meats.” Nico pulled it out of the fridge, waving Ziggy down when the retriever tried to get at the tray as he set it on the counter.

***

Feyre liked that Nico drove Will nuts. She found it really cute and a template to follow. “I’d use it every chance I got too, Nico. It’s too good not to keep.”

Once the bag of sweets (and not too sweets) was safely out of reach of the dogs, she leaned her hip on the counter and got a good look at the platter.

And snuck a piece of cheese.

***

“I did let him have his way and kept it off the Thanksgiving table. Until my father went into the kitchen looking for something and found it. I think that was the first time we put cheese on it actually. When Hades did it.” Nico pulled his phone out of his pocket, scrolling through for the pictures they’d taken that day. Specifically the one of Hades with the skull.

“He tried to make it more like an actual skull than I did though.” He shrugged as he put his phone down. “So. Will makes me keep wheat bread and those things in the house. But when he’s not here...I go for the more delicious options. Butterbread. Sourdough. They’re in that cabinet there.” He tipped his head towards the cabinet he kept them in as he waved Ziggy and Cesare away from the counter where they were making those begging faces. “You have your food in your dishes. Special treats for today. Go to your bowls,” he told them in Italian, grateful when Ziggy went over there. Even if the golden did keep looking over his shoulder at them.

Cesare ignored him, sitting down on the floor between them.

***

“Sneaky bastard,” Feyre decided. She was nice enough not to reward Cesare with pets for his disobediance, leaning back against the counter again and shifting her hips as her stomach rumbled.

She darted her eyes. “Ignoring that…”
***

Nico grinned at her comment about sneaky bastard. “Me or him? I spoiled Cesare and I know it. Generally though he at least allows me to pretend that I’m the boss. If we ignore him long enough he’ll go eat his food. But he’ll make us think that he’s doing us a favor by lowering himself to that.” He shrugged.

“Mayonnaise or mustard for your bread?” He asked, showing a rare moment of tact at not commenting on the growl from her stomach as he went back to the fridge.

***
“Both,” Feyre chirped. As long as she got to stuff her face -- well she’d starved enough times in her life to take any chance she could to eat a full meal.

Especially when it was with a friend who was paying.

***

“Get the bread for me? And there should be some chips in there too. That's my hiding cabinet.” Nico told her as he balanced the condiments, and some pickles, on his way back to the kitchen island. “I meant get it for us.”

***

“Got it!” Feyre pulled out the bread and some chips, then looked around for plates as she wasn’t that kind of uncivilized.

***

“Want to really help me get on Will’s nerves? We can use the paper plates and eat in the living room.” Nico said with a mischevious smile.

***

Feyre grinned back, and held up her fist for a fist bump. “Lets do it.”
