Getting to know Barry in the real world was..surreal. Cisco didn’t know any other way to describe it. It was nice. Barry was around his age too, into science and genuinely a nice guy. Why not try to know him in reality too? Cisco missed him. It was weird, considering he was right there now-but still. It wasn’t like the dreams. He didn’t get to see him on the daily, there was no Star Labs. So, he invited him out to do something normal. Who knew how long normal things would last for them anyway, might as well take advantage of it while they could. He’d gotten there on time thanks to his uber, but looked a little pale upon said arrival. That guy had nearly gotten them killed in traffic with his reckless driving. He swore at one point they were going to hit a semi truck but the guy had just kept going. He fixed his hair which was a little frayed from the ride, and sat at the edge of a giant fountain to wait for a minute and regain his bearings. The shirt he’d chosen was one that read Essential N.P.C. Do not rob, maim, or kil. on it. He glanced back at the fountain behind him idly, people had thrown money in it. It was overall a pretty impressive water fountain. Of all the time Cisco had lived in the area, he’d never been to the observatory before. The grounds were pretty nice. * Barry was a tad bit late. He hadn’t meant to be. But he left a few minutes later than he meant to and then he hit some traffic, but he had made it! Just not as soon as he would have liked. He hoped that Cisco hadn’t been waiting for too long. It wasn’t as crowded as he thought it would be, so he didn’t take him too long to find Cisco sitting by the fountain. “Hey,” he said once he made it over to Cisco. “Sorry for being late. I hope you weren’t sitting here for too long.” * Barry being late did not shock Cisco, in the dreams he was often late. Cisco wasn’t even phased. It gave him time to people watch. He didn’t do that often since he didn’t get out that often. Looking up from a bright colored couple he’d been watching from a distance he gave a shrug. “Nope, not long. All good.” He grinned as he stood. “Late start?” Mostly a teasing question. He doubted it, Barry and his mornings should be used to them by now. “Observatory is this way.” He thumbed to his side. -- “Oh, good,” he said with a sigh of relief. Now he didn’t have to feel too bad for making Cisco wait. “Yeah,” he said with a nod of his head. “I had everything planned out and then I ended up starting a little late. But, hey, I’m here!” It could have been much worse. He could still be on the road or still at home while poor Cisco waited around for him. He looked in the direction that Cisco had motioned to and then said, “Let’s go.” There was no point for them to stand around. * Cisco was pretty easy going. He wasn’t ready to ditch just because Barry was a little late. He grinned at that comment. “You can buy me a soda and we’ll call it even.” The engineer stood, sticking his hands in his jean jacket pockets and joined his friend. “Yep.” It wouldn’t be that long before they got up to the observatory. The Tesla exhibit was the thing Cisco was itching to see. “They’re supposed to have a pretty impressive star room too.” It was a large building, had a few school tours going on but nothing to the likes of disneyland in the people comparisons. The whole observatory was decked out in memory of Tesla and his work, but the big event was the tesla coil off to a side of the room. --- “Deal.” Hey, if all he had to get Cisco was a soda, then he was all for it. Once Cisco stood up, he started slowly walking towards the observatory. “We should check that out.” Honestly, he was down to look at anything that seemed interesting. Even if it wasn’t part of the Tesla exhibit. “Can I ask you something?” He hadn’t planned on bringing up the dreams, but since Iris had one, it had been on his mind more than he wanted. * Score, free soda. He was rather pleased with himself as they browsed that Observatory. “They’ve got all kinds of stuff here. Tesla’s only a small part. Wana check out the rest?” It was a science museum dedicated to all sorts of astronomy. Cisco was basically in heaven. He’d stooped over to look at some space samples on a table when Barry got his attention. “Shoot.” --- “Uhh, yes.” They were there. They might as well check that out and anything else that might catch their attention. Right. This was the start. Barry just needed to ask so that he could stop worrying about the possible dreams that might come. “So, you’ve had these weird dreams, right? I guess what I want to know is are they always bad?” * Cisco paused as Barry asked him about the dreams. Was he finally dreaming? He glanced over at him and gave it a little thought for a moment. “Not always, no. We have some pretty good times too.” Of course there was a world of bad sprinkled into them, but there was no need to be negative. Cisco wasn’t naturally a negative person. “They get hard, but we get through them together. We make a pretty awesome team” He grinned as he gave him a nudge on the shoulder and walked up to the next exhibit which had all sorts of different equipment actually used in space. “You had one didn’t you?” He asked as he peered over some of the explanation cards on some various items. --- Barry listened as Cisco spoke. He kept saying we so did that mean he didn’t end up dying? “No,” he said with a shake of his head. “I didn’t have a dream. Iris did. She called me up the other day, early in the morning. It freaked her out since she said I was hit by lightning and that while I was in the hospital that my heart kept stopping.” So he pretty much had come up with his own conclusion that he might be dead in this dream world. “Are you sure they’re not always bad?” Because it seemed like there was more bad than good. * “Oh..yeah. No, we don’t let you permanently die. Just the hospital you were taken to didn’t know how to deal with what happened. We did, so you’ll be fine.” And then they’d be friends. At least that’s how it worked out then. Sort of, it took a while but Barry joining that team had really made it whole. Like a family again. “Until you came into them there was a lot of bad. But then it starts to get better. I can tell you some things, but it really depends what you want to know or don’t.” He admitted with a shrug. Inside he was anxious to tell him everything but outside he tried to maintain a cool collected look. Cisco wasn’t one to constantly look at the bad parts, though they were upsetting to experience, today he wanted to get to know his dream bestie. “Have you lived here a long time?” --- Barry listened and he was happy to hear that he doesn't die. He still didn’t want to have the dreams, though. They didn’t sound very pleasant, but at least he knew when and if they came, he wouldn’t just end up dead at the end of it all. “I don’t know if I want to know anything. Other than living or dying. That had been on my mind a lot.” Since Iris hadn’t said anything else, he really had no curiosity about anything else. The subject was changed, good. “Uh, yeah. Moved out here when I was eleven. Stayed until I was eighteen. Left for college for a few years and then came back here. What about you?” * “You live. You way more than live.” But he didn’t tell him more than. “No spoilers from me then.” He grinned. Unless he forgot he’d try to keep Barry out of dream shenanigans. Chances were with him here though it’d be a little difficult to do. He wanted to tell him. He would just have to practice a little more restraint. “Lived in L.A. The barrio mostly until college too and then here I am.” Accomplished scientist and everything. “There’s supposed to be a show tonight here, a star gazing opportunity too. We could always take a break and come back for it if you want. I’ve been wanting to see it, but nobody else I know is really into this kinda thing.” He grinned, looking over various exhibits as they wandered. --- “Oh, good.” He was glad to hear that. He really didn’t want to die just because the crazy dreams decided it was his time to go. “Thanks.” He knew more dreams were going to come. He’d rather wait and see than worry about what Cisco might tell him. “And here you are,” he said with a small smile. He kinda had this feeling that Cisco didn’t want to get into details since he kinda just zoomed over that info, which was fine. Barry wasn’t going to push. “Yeah, we should definitely see that stuff.” He had nothing to do later on, so why not see that stuff with Cisco? * He laughed at that. “Any time pal.” And gave Barry a clap on the shoulder with an amused look. As if he’d let him die. Cisco did gloss over most of his life, it was depressing and complicated a lot of the times. Now was what mattered to him. Now he had friends and a life of his own, and a astronomy show in his future. There was plenty of time to layment on the past if Barry ended up wanting to hear it all some other time. This was supposed to be a fun outing, he didn’t want to drag it down with complicated details. “Cool. We can always head back to my place if you want if there’s more time after and catch an uber back.” He forgot Barry drove here-it was one of the weird little things. He was so used to his dream bestie not driving or needing to drive with his powers that he didn’t think of his car. --- Barry smiled and then happily moved on to the next part of their conversation. He thought about it for a moment before saying, “Or we could act like tourists and go wonder around the walk of fame since it’s only like twenty minutes away.” He really didn’t see any point in going all the way home and then coming all the way back. “And I drove here. We don’t need an Uber.” * “I like that idea. Tourist for the day. “ Plus it meant an entire day with Barry, doing something they both enjoyed. He was beyond happy to have his friend there, it had basically been the worst thing missing someone he wasn’t sure even existed and now? He didn’t even have to miss him anymore. It couldn’t have been better. -- Barry was glad to hear that Cisco liked his idea. “Shall we go and play tourist now?” Unless there was something else that Cisco wanted to look at, leaving could wait. If not, they could go now and look at the walk of fame. * |
