Once Clara had gotten the okay from Liv about the murder of the agoraphobe being solved, it was to the morgue to get her friend a new brain so that she could leave the her flat. The joys of a TARDIS meant that it was easy enough to get into the morgue - though admittedly her dad’s TARDIS would have been better but he’d gone off to explore the universe and take a break from Earth following being tethered to someone - so it was her own TARDIS.
Still, nothing was out of place once she materialized where she needed to be. Yes, the trick was to make sure that no one was there to see her essentially steal a brain. Even if it was going to a good cause. Modern day grave robbing? Eh, probably not. The body wasn’t buried yet and they were there to solve murders. Just in less conventional ways.
Of course, then there was figuring out which brain to pick for Liv. It wasn’t like she knew anything about the bodies that had been brought in. Which probably was the point. Examine the body and get clues that way, no preconceived notions and all of that. Finding one that seemed to be in good condition and the basic facts didn’t scream out any warnings, Clara made sure to take care as she took the brain, returned to her TARDIS and then to Liv’s.
Where of course the TARDIS materialized and she walked out.
“Brain delivery for one Liv Moore.”
What, she was allowed to have some fun with this even if it was beyond weird. Such was friendship in Orange County though.
It had been a long few weeks. Liv was beyond sick of her apartment. But she couldn’t leave. And as much as she wanted to just switch brains and leave she couldn’t. She had to solve the man’s murder. Otherwise it would all be for nothing. The only way Liv could justify eating brains to survive, was by solving the murder. If she had to live like this she might as well do some good.
It had been difficult to actually solve the murder while being constrained to her apartment. But Leon knew all about her… quirks. He had texted her multiple updates and every time she had a vision she contacted him. Finally they figured out that it was the landlord that killed the poor guy.
The second the landlord had been arrested Liv contacted Clara, hoping her friend was still willing to raid the morgue for her. Liv couldn’t exactly do it herself with the not being able to leave and she had a feeling Leon wouldn’t want to transport a brain. Of course Dan would probably do it, but Clara had already offered. Even though it had been over a week, her friend still agreed to bring her a brain.
It felt like forever from the moment she texted Clara to moment the TARDIS appeared in her living room. Liv couldn’t help but crack a smile at Clara’s comment. “You’d make an amazing pizza deliverer.” Imagine how quick the delivery time would be with the TARDIS.
She grabbed the cooler with the brain in it from Clara taking it over to her own freezer. But not before taking a chunk out and taking a bite. Usually she liked to prepare her brains. It made her feel at least a little bit more human. But right now she just wanted something that would let her out of her damn apartment.
“I mean, I do run a diner. It’s the diner that comes to you, obviously.” Grinning some, Clara stood back as Liv grabbed the cooler and went straight for the brain. While it was maybe a bit weird to see her friend eat a brain, Clara had seen plenty by that point to not actually be phased by it or anything. Nor could she say that she was shocked by the straight eating of it. After all, it had been a month stuck in an apartment.
Not that Clara was really all too familiar with Liv’s regular brain preparation process. She just could understand wanting to switch brains so she could leave the apartment.
“Feeling better?”
“Better than postmates,” Liv replied with a smile as the new brain began to take effect. “But really, thank you,” she added her tone less joking and more sincere. She knew she was lucky to have a friend like Clara. Not only was she okay with the whole zombie thing but she was also willing to pick up brains for Liv. That was above and beyond average friendship.
“Much!” Liv replied in answer to Clara’s question. “Let’s get out of here,” a brief pause. “I’m thinking the mall!”
“Of course, that’s what friends do. They help each other.” Sure, for most friendships, that didn’t entail having to steal the brain of a murder victim but living in Orange County meant for less than conventional experiences and friendship. And honestly? Clara wouldn’t have it any other way.
“But good, I’m glad to hear that.” As for the pause and then exclamation on where to go? The brunette shrugged with a grin, “Sure, sounds like that could be fun.”
That was true. And if Clara ever needed a brain, Liv would be more than happy to get one for her… as long as she wasn’t confined to her apartment. Which she hoped would never happen again. That was the worst month of her life.
But right, time to go to the mall. Liv was dying to shop all of the sudden. “Can we take the TARDIS?” she asked excitedly. Of course she could drive, but the TARDIS would get them there faster.
Being confined to the apartment was definitely a bad thing, so Clara hoped for Liv’s sake that she didn’t come across any more agoraphobic brains. Yes, she would get her another brain but it was just better all around if that wasn’t necessary. Though from what Clara had seen, it didn’t appear that Liv had ever ended up repeating a brain type so there was that at least.
“I mean, yeah.” The main trick of course would be ensuring it stayed safe. It was a bit difficult to hide a diner and while there were safety features… well. Taking it to the mall was a new one. “Not sure where we’d land it though since it’s not like there’s roof entrances or anything like that.”
And the parking garage wasn’t exactly the best place for a diner either. Liv had to think about that for a moment. “What about right next to the mall?” Liv asked. She really didn’t think too much about these things, but then she didn’t have a TARDIS so she didn’t have to. And really right now the main thing on her mind was getting the hell out of her apartment. “It could maybe look like a restaurant that’s attached?”
Where to put a TARDIS was definitely one of those things Clara always had to consider. But next to the mall would work. And then just be seemingly closed.
“That would work.”
“Alright then,” Liv said a smile spreading clear across her face. “What are you waiting for? Let’s go!”
