Who:Katniss Feyre What:Meeting, a little flirting? When:Recently Warnings:Katniss is amused, it's dangerous~ Status:finished
Katniss wasn’t in the best mood ever, she was surprised anyone wanted to be around her honestly. The condescending asshole on the internet had only set her back further. So far she had a bad week. Her transition to Orange County wasn’t the easiest thing. She was alone and out of her element. She was used to a bustling city full of life and color. Orange County wasn’t really the same. Internally she knew that was why she moved there, to get away from New York but the real question was; had she been ready?
No. Probably not.
She hadn’t moved because she wanted to, she moved because of a traumatic event. Now she’ faced another one. She didn’t normally give her address out, but the other girl seemed a little lonely too. Maybe they both needed a friend. So she waited. She lived in a nice swanky high rise apartment complex with a doorman and everything.
---
There were a lot of condescending assholes, Feyre would have noted, one only needed to ignore them.
Hell, she could be one sometimes, when she was at her angriest. But thanks to her dreams and her waking life turning things around she felt, for the first time in forever, like she could be happy. Almost.
She wasn’t in a constant state of starving, she didn’t want to kill her oldest sister or her dad...and she was willing to meet a stranger because they were having a bad day.
That last thing Feyre could blame mostly on the dreams. Her dreams were helping her find a new sort of family, people who were broken just like her. Which was nice, considering how scary it had gotten for her. But it made her lonely, too. She missed Mor….and Rhys.
Before the dreams, she’d have never set foot in a place like this, but since the dreams she’d had to adjust to something a little like it; being friends with a Fae Lord helped.
Feeling a little underdressed in a black skirt and matching blouse, Feyre rang the bell and was let up. Her brunette hair hung down past her shoulder but couldn’t quite hide the elegant points of her ears, and a close look would tell anyone that her skin was flawless. In the right lighting, she almost glowed. Feyre Archeron was no longer human, but she was still nervous at meeting new people.
--- Katniss didn’t really match her swanky home as much as some of the other residents did. When the girl arrived she was given the number and the go ahead by the doorman to come up to meet her friend. Katniss was just finishing getting ready, her home was nice-but she would find that Katniss hadn’t overdressed for the occasion either. Just a pair of form fitting jeans and a black top. She didn’t expect Feyre to dress up, they were just going for a walk as far as she knew.
She’d finished tying her hair together in a braided ponytail so it stayed out of her face, and waited.
Slipping on a pair of short black ankle boots, she grabbed at her keys and half expected the girl to text her when she arrived. She glanced at her phone occasionally, wondering if for a minute she got lost. The place was pretty big. -- She had in fact gotten a little lost, but found Katniss’s door and knocked. It hadn’t occurred to her to text, mostly because she felt a little intimidated and was hoping Katniss wasn’t like the people who’d screwed her family over.
Feyre had grown up among those people and she didn’t actually miss it. Well, she’d missed always being well fed, but that was besides the point.
-- She opened up the door to said swanky apartment to let her in. “Hey, sorry. Forgot to mention it’s a bit maze-like. Dad’s suggestion.” Honestly if it kept creeps from following her, she was fine with that. They couldn’t follow if they couldn’t find her to begin with.
“You want a drink or something?..Water bottle maybe?” If they were going for a walk, water might not be a bad plan. She got one for herself and offered it out to the other girl. “Feyre right?” This was the right person wasn’t it? “Make yourself at home.” Don’t look so nervous! “I don’t bite, unless you ask.” She teased. --
“I’ll be able to find my way now,” Feyre assured her. She had a good memory for design and her dreams certainly helped with puzzles and mazes. Perhaps more than she’d ever wanted or needed but that was the way of it.
“Water sounds fine, Katniss. That’s a good idea.” With the walk potentially being longer than expected it didn’t hurt, anyway. Feyre flashed a smile with teeth that were almost too sharp for a normal human. “Only the people I really like.”
-- “That’s good, I’d have come to meet you but they don’t like people hanging around the lobby much. There are pretty strict rules here.” She admitted with an apologetic smile. It was for the safety of the residents, an the comfort of the man at the front door. The building was very secure, and Katniss had to admit she was fine with that part. Even if her father had chosen a more pricey building than she would have.
Katniss handed the other girl a water bottle with a smirk. “Challenge accepted?” She teased, but was taken aback by her teeth. “Did you get cosmetic surgery?” Maybe it was rude to ask, but she’d never seen teeth like that. -- “I kind of figured,” Feyre said, rubbing the back of her neck. “I kind of feel like an interloper, even if I maybe don’t look like one. I grew up … more well off we ended up being, but things are turning around, I hope.”
She hadn’t meant to even go into that little detail about her life, so she shut up about it, and focused on Katniss’s question. “I’m not sure how to answer that. You’re on the network, have you noticed people talking about really crazy stuff?” --
“You’re fine. If anyone says anything, I’ll fight them.” She grinned, mostly a tease but also somewhat realistic. If anyone treated her new friends like trash oh there would be words, and probable disputes.
“..I saw, I didn’t know how to respond. I kind of thought they were all just a little crazy.” She admitted with a shrug. Talking about magic and broomsticks and dreaming? She’d never seen anything like that. “I figured it was best not to respond. “That was the kind of world she grew up in. If one couldn’t respond politely, one did not respond at all. It was easier online to follow those rules. In real life?...not so much.
--- Feyre appreciated the thought -- she had very few friends who’d fight for her and nearly all of them were in her Dreams and only recently aquired.
She supposed Weiss would fight for her now that she knew there’d been a problem, but Feyre also didn’t know if she’d 100% forget about how their friendship had ended originally. Even if it hadn’t been Weiss’s fault. Feyre pulled her hair back a bit to show off her pointed ears.
“They’re a little crazy. But…” And then she lifted her other hand, a ball of light appearing in her palm. She could manipulate other elements, and with practice she thought she could pass through shadow to teleport short distances. “I think it’s literally magic.”
--- “...Can I touch them? Is that a weird question? That’s probably weird. You can say no.” Katniss just couldn’t help it. She didn’t know why she wanted to touch them though, what was she expecting? They probably just felt like teeth, but who knew. She’d never seen anything like that. Katniss just frowned a bit at the idea of actual magic.
“That’s absurd.” Magic was for stories wasn’t it? “I mean I want to believe in it as much as the next person but isn’t magic for fairytales?” --- Face reddening slightly, Feyre nodded. “Uhm. Sure? I think I have some control over the length of them, but I’m still figuring it all out. Ears I have no control over though, or anything else about the changes to by body.”
Her eyes fell to the light in her hand. “My dreams feel like a fairy tale turned dark.”
And then the light went out, and she bared her teeth for Katniss. If anything she would have expected someone wanting to touch her ears, but that felt oddly more intimate than teeth. At least, teeth on fingers. Teeth other places were another story and Feyre tried not to think about that.
--- Katniss was a blunt person sometimes, if she wanted to do something she learned it was better to do than ask-but with this kind of thing she at least thought of asking before just reaching out to poke one of those sharp incisors. They looked cool to her. She could only hope if she got dreams that she got something as cool looking as those. “Have you ever bitten anyone with them?” She asked as she gave one of the sharp ends a touch with a finger tip. It was gentle and quick, she didn’t want to infringe on her space too much after all. Lowering her hand she grinned. “You can bite me if you want to try it sometime.” With a wink. A half tease.
The ears were cool too, but the teeth were something Katniss could see as useful. Maybe at some point she’d ask to touch them as well, but for now she was content. “It’s a little weird, but I like them. “ She wouldn’t say it out loud but she was definitely intrigued. Feyre had her attention. --- Feyre waited for Katniss to withdraw her hand before speaking, so as to not bite her finger. “I haven’t bitten anyone. Not…” She flushed a little bit, cheeks heating up. “To hurt someone, anyway. It’s not a vampire thing, more of a… feral thing.”
At Katniss’s tease, Feyre’s eyes dropped to her throat and then snapped back up.
--- She grinned. “Could be fun. Pity we’ll never know.” She enjoyed teasing, it was half the fun of friendship. Without it where would they be? She gave her a nudge. “Come on then.” They had a walk to get to if they weren’t going to be experimenting with other stuff. Though it didn’t mean she wouldn’t egg her on a bit later when they got back. ---
“Right, the walk,” Feyre breathed, turning around and making a bee-line for the door before she made an inappropriate comment about just where on Katniss looked the most fun to bite. Suddenly, she needed air.
--- Katniss snickered at that comment. Oh yeah, she definitely wanted to see Feyre again. Her reactions were perfect. But for now, at least they still had the walk ahead. Later, who knew what was in store. --
