Who: Elena, Katherine, and Peter What: Late night run-ins with the family When: Before Elena transitioned Where: Gilbert kitchen Status: Complete Rating: Medium for some language
Peter had to admit: Kat had a nice place. It wasn’t his vibe really, this whole gothic feel, but let’s be honest -- he wasn’t there for the architecture.
Since their initial meeting, they’d started this weird benefits/no friendship thing and he had to admit: he liked it. It was refreshing to just be himself without actually caring what the other person said. If she kicked him out and said fuck off? Cool. If she asked him over and they banged all night? Cool. Either way, he was fine and happy. The ‘no shirt on in the house’ rule was strange, although he couldn’t really blame her. His abs were amazing, and they were getting better, thanks to Nine’s morning classes, and his occasional yoga class.
Tonight, he’d gone over with the intention of being in and out (heh) in an hour or so, but time had passed and at some point, Kat had gone to take a shower. Obviously, this meant he could leave and he wanted to but he was actually hungry and thought she wouldn’t mind if he made a detour into the kitchen. A girl like that had to eat something and who didn’t have bread and meat?
Entering the kitchen, his shirt in hand, he froze at the doorway. There was another Kat there, and it took his brain a few moments to remember that Kat had mentioned she lived with her sister. Twin sister. The sister that didn’t do threesomes. The whole conversation flooded in his mind and he leaned against the doorway, arms crossed in front of him.
“Hey! It’s the twin I haven’t seen naked yet, although technically, I have.” Cue a grin/smirk. “How’s it going? Is that peanut butter? Sweet, I’m going to make a sandwich.” Peter was the best at first impressions.
Elena had been going through another late night study session, set up in the kitchen with books and headphones to drown out the quiet of the house. As such she hadn’t actually noticed Katherine and friend entering the house, nor had she heard any sounds emanating from the bedroom upstairs.
Deciding that she needed some brain food, Elena had gotten herself some milk and was in the process of making a sandwich when the movement caught her eye more than anything else. The headphones were removed in enough time for her to catch Peter’s words though, knife pausing in the middle of spreading peanut butter.
The twin he hadn’t seen naked? Eyebrows rose slightly though Elena could at least see what her sister saw in him. The man had at least an eight pack of abs.
“...Elena,” she corrected, finishing her sandwich and stepping back. She did leave the peanut butter and bread out for him, though. “Are you….” She was struggling with how to phrase things. “...and Katherine…” At this point she was silently begging him to just put her out of her misery and not make her say something like fuckbuddies. Not that she actually would but…
“Fucking?” Peter had no qualms about answering that question or using that word. Entering the kitchen, he put his shirt down on the counter and reached for the supplies, happy to eat something. One sloppy sandwich later, he took a big bite and nodded his approval. “Oh yeah. I worked up that appetite. Anyways. Yeah, we’re not friends or anything, although maybe I shouldn’t admit that to her sister. You don’t seem the kind that would stab me? But this here?,” he pointed to a faded scar under his ribs. “That was a super unassuming Swedish chick, so who knows.” He raised his brows. “Maybe I should start again. My brain and my mouth don’t work too well together. I’m Peter.”
A short nod. Yeah, because why would Katherine have an actual relationship? Friends with benefits seemed about par for the course. She loved her sister, of course, but Katherine didn’t do touchy-feely well.
“Nice to meet you Peter. And you don’t have to worry about me. Katherine can more than take care of herself. Besides, I’m a medical student. I have to take the Hippocratic Oath at some point. Do no harm.”
“That’s cool.” He didn’t actually know what else to say. Peter had never done much schooling himself, and the idea of actually wanting to spend more years studying ...that seemed horrible. Why would he want that for himself?
“And yeah, Kat seems pretty badass.” Again, not sure what else to say. When Elena mentioned she was in medical school, Peter suddenly realized he literally knew nothing about Kat that wasn’t sexual in nature. Even the whole time they had to spend together, was spent ...well, together in bed. They occasionally joined Laurel, Yondu and Olivia for food and/or tv time but they definitely hadn’t had any conversations at all. He didn’t even have her number until a few days after. Shit.
And then there was the whole ‘did he even care or want to know’ thing too. That seemed complicated and ruined the benefits thing with annoying things like ‘friendships’. Although Peter was a friendly guy, it seemed like a lot of work to build up a relationship.
“So what’s in that book then? Any pictures of dead people?”
“More like anatomy illustrations,” Elena admitted. “But if you want to see something really gross…”. Reaching for another book, she flipped through until she found what she was looking for.
“Motorcycle accident,” she advised, showing him a picture. “You can see that all layers have been scraped away: epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous layer...it’s literally just bone.”
“Ew,” Peter responded automatically, even as he reached for the book itself. Morbid curiousity was stronger than his urge to throw up. His eyes flicked throughout the picture, not looking away. “How do you even see them as people when they show up like that? No wonder docs end up with a God complex. You take literal meat and make it all..human like again. Or something.”
“I don’t want to be a surgeon,” Elena answered. “They’re the ones with real God complexes. I just want to be a GP, General Practitioner, like my Dad was. I think that’s nicer. I get to help families.”
“Elena Gilbert, god's gift to humanity,” a voice cut in as Katherine entered the kitchen in a long t-shirt and wet hair. Her eyes looked to her sister and than to Peter who she arched a brow at,, “you’re still here?” she was kind of surprise since he wasn’t in the room when she came back, figured he bailed.
“I’m assuming you’ve two met,” she stated as she went to the fridge and grabbed her a bottle water..
Peter’s eyes lingered on Kat’s body, giving it an appreciative glance but he didn’t get any closer. They’d already done what they’d set out to do, why would he try anything else? “Yeah, she’s grossing me out while I’m eating,” he said, finishing off his sandwich with a huge bite. “How come you’re not in school? Or are you? I really have no clue about anything in your life, and now that I think about it? Don’t know that I care.” This wasn’t said maliciously, just very matter-of-fact. The more he learned, the more this blurred the lines between sex and friendship.
And he didn’t know that he wanted more friends.
Katherine stared at him for a moment and than shrug her shoulder, “if you don’t care, I got nothing to tell.” In all honesty, she really had nothing to tell, she was at home, going out, needed to get a job or college...there was some money from her parents she could tap into, but honestly she wasn’t sure what she wanted for the rest of her life.
“Please we aren’t friend,we don’t need to know our life goals,” she replied as she sip on her drink.
“So how long have you two been seeing each other?” Elena couldn’t quite bring herself to ask how long they’d been fucking. “I’m thinking the headphones were a good idea.” She definitely did not need to be hearing her sister get something that Elena hadn’t had in months.
Peter made a face. “Seeing each other implies that we actually look at each other,” he teased, smirking a little. “And Kat’s right -- we’re not friends. I am glad to have a nice human conversation with you though, Elena, and for sharing sandwich time.”
Her eyes rolled to Peters remark, “He’s a caveman,” she walked over to Peter, shoved him lightly, “All he likes to do around me is nag, grunt, lick, and well, poke me repeatedly.” Kat waggled her brows at him. They could be friends if they tried, she did kinda think he’s okay, but she would never tell him that. She shifted to shit on the counter, “He might be around till we tire of the other,” she shrugs her shoulders.
That made Peter laugh. “Fuck yeah, I will. I have nowhere to be, nowhere to go. The beauty of being self-employed, living with my old man.” He had started to really embrace the fact that he lived with Yondu. It worked well, so why the hell was he going to change things? Other than the fact that he couldn’t bring girls back there, everything was good.
“Course, that being said, maybe I should head back, let you two have some sisterly bonding time or some shit. That’s what siblings want right? I’m an only child, wouldn’t know otherwise.”
“It was nice having a human conversation with you, too, Peter. I’m usually around if you want to know more gross medical stories.” He seemed like a nice guy, even if her sister was only interested in the physical. But then again it seemed a two-way street and if both were happy, Elena couldn’t object.
“As for the sisterly bonding time it ebbs and flows. Sometimes it’s nice to have time together and sometimes you can’t even stand to be in the same room as one another. Most of the time it’s somewhere in-between. Especially when you live with each other. Like having a roommate who knows everything about you, and all of your deep, dark secrets. She knew a ton about Katherine.
Katherine stood there for a moment, she was going to make a joke about how he was going to miss them dressed up in lingerie and pillow fights, but Elena just rub her the wrong way, was she flirting with Peter? Than as Elena continued to talk, she rolled her eyes as sne hopped down from the counter.
She moved to face Peter, her hands slid up his chest and she leaned up on her toes since he was taller than him and kissed him passionately. When the kiss broke, she smiled sweetly at him, “you can go now.”
Peter kissed her back and followed her head a little as she pulled away. “Huh?” And then he realized what she said. “Oh, yeah, sounds good. I know when I’m not wanted or needed anyways.” He grinned over at Elena and gave a little half-salute. “Nice to meet you, twin.”
Turning his attention to Kat, he whipped his shirt in her direction before giving a smirk. “And I’ll see you when you’re wanting some action again. Peace out, you two.”
With that, he left, whistling a song to himself as he put his shirt on. It was getting a bit cold out.
