Caleb tried his best to keep any errands he needed to run reserved for the weekend because then it meant he wasn’t giving himself any excuses for skipping out on homework or studying for class. It was a little later on a Saturday than he would usually do for errands, but his shift at the bar last night felt like it had lasted forever and it took longer than he expected to fall asleep. It wasn’t a bad thing and he really did enjoy his job, but sometimes a mood overtook people at the bar and everyone just wanted to drink as much as possible. He bit his lip to hold back a yawn as he made his way down the street towards the local coffee shop. There was no way that he would get through the day without the help of some caffeine, so that was his first stop.
Because he needed the caffeine he wasn’t pay much attention to his surroundings as he walked. Unfortunately that meant that he brushed against someone, a bit harder than expected, and stumbled off his path. He turned quickly to try and reach out to steady whomever he ran into with a quick apology on his lips, “Oh god, I’m sorry. That’s totally my fault. Are you okay?”
If Caleb wasn’t at a bar, he was at a coffee shop. The guy practically lived there during the day. Free wifi. Easily to hack into customers accounts. He never took too much, just a few dollars from each person. Not enough to break said person, but enough for Caleb to ge by. He left his motel and made his way to the closest coffee shop.
At least he started to, until someone bumped into him. Caleb wasn’t the type to make a big deal about these sorts of things. “Don’t worry about it,” Caleb replied with a smile. “Shit happens.”
Well at least this guy seemed pretty chill. Caleb had already dealt with a few crazy rude people on the streets this year and he really wondered why the hell everyone thought they were more important than everyone else. It wasn’t like he didn’t apologize after a brief bump on the street, but man some people just needed a chill pill.
“You’re now my favorite person to run into around here. LA people are always so tense, it’s annoying,” granted it had been a few years since he moved out here for school, but he still didn’t feel like he was a full fledged Californian yet, “Can I at least grab you a coffee or something? I feel bad.”
Being constantly on the run, Caleb didn’t make many friends. It was a lonely life. So when a situation arose where he could actually talk to someone for a bit? He took full advantage. Especially when free coffee was involved.
“I’m certainly not one to turn down free coffee,” Caleb replied with a smirk. “That’s where I was headed anyway.”
“Perfect, I figured who could turn down free coffee,” Caleb let out a laugh. It was rare to find someone who would turn down something free as long as the person buying it didn’t seem like a serial killer. Caleb hoped he didn’t come off with that sort of vibe. As they walked he realized they hadn’t introduced themselves and turned to hold his hand out, “I’m Caleb, by the way, thought I might as well introduce myself.”
Caleb nearly stopped in his tracks when the guy introduced himself. It really shouldn’t have surprised him so much that there was someone else with his name. It wasn’t exactly an uncommon name. “No shit?” Caleb replied as they continued walking. “My name’s Caleb.”
Caleb honestly didn’t know that many guys that shared his name, so he had the same reaction as Caleb. He turned to him with a grin and let out a laugh, “That’s kind of awesome that we just happened to run into each other on the street and we share the same name. Did we just become best friends?” This was kind of crazy divine intervention trying to bring them together, although Caleb wasn’t sure what for just yet.
“Definitely a first for me,” Caleb agreed as they entered the coffee shop. “Let’s just start with the coffee,” he added with a smirk.
