Blake was more than a little nervous as she and Colleen at the house her parents lived in. She knew from her dreams that her parents welcomed her home with open arms and not a single ounce of anger or resentment towards her. Blake also knew that Colleen had said her parents loved her and missed her. That didn’t do overly much to keep her from getting nervous. Most of it was the effects of Scientology, of course, and the trauma of that whole breaking up families without a care.
She didn’t hesitate overly long before she lifted her hand and knocked on the door. Mostly since Colleen was there and would possibly nudge her into knocking sooner rather than later. It wasn’t very long before the door opened to reveal Kali, who looked like an older version of Blake, minus the cat ears. Blake suddenly realized how odd her mother looked without cat ears.
“Mom,” she said as she felt the swell of emotion well up within her.
“Blake!” Kali exclaimed as she didn’t hesitate to step forward and pull her daughter into a tight hug. Blake returned the tight without much hesitation. Her mother was one of the few people who could hug her without her flinching or shying away from the contact. And as soon as she was in the hug, Blake couldn’t help but start to cry. The emotions were overwhelming to her, and it was hard to let them out since she’d bottled these ones up for so long. Mother and daughter just stood there in the doorway, embracing and Kali herself had started crying.
“What’s going on? Who’s there?” Ghira asked after several moments. He then appeared in the doorway shortly thereafter and saw Blake. “My baby girl!” He exclaimed as he promptly swept both Blake and Kali up in a big bear hug. They all remained like that for what seemed like an eternity before Ghira let go of Kali and Blake. The big bear of a man had a tear in his eye, though he brushed it away quickly. “Now, let’s all come inside. We have much to talk about.” He also waved Colleen in, who did not escape a big bear hug. After all, she helped with reuniting the Belladonnas, she definitely deserved a hug for that.
By the time they were all in the living room, Blake had managed to regain some of her composure. She took a kleenex from her mother to dry away some of the tears before she sat down. Blake took a couple breaths to settle herself before she finally looked at her parents.
“I just want to say that I’m so sorry for what I said to you both the last time I saw you. I really wish that I’d left with you. It would’ve saved me a lot of pain.” Blake didn’t just mean that in the sense of Scientology. She meant it in the context of her ex-boyfriend.
“It’s okay, Blake. It wasn’t your fault. Scientology thrives on brainwashing people, and it’s not afraid to break families apart if it means being able to hold onto one person in the family instead of none of them.” Kali said.
“I just wish that I’d seen that sooner than I did.” Blake admitted. It had been rather lonely after her parents had left. Colleen and one or two other girls had been her friends, but that was about it.
“We’re just glad that you did see it and that Colleen helped you get out.” Ghira stated with a nod. “You’re safe and happy and that’s all that matters.” Though Ghira paused. “You are happy, right? Do I need to knock some heads if you aren’t?” He asked, eyes narrowing a bit.
“No, dad, it’s fine. I’m getting happy. I’ve actually been seeing a therapist to help me learn how to deal with the traumas I’ve suffered.” Blake paused, her voice hitching momentarily. “I never told either of you, but you know the guy I was dating when you left Scientology? He...he abused me.” It wasn’t easy to admit, but at least Blake could say it now without being in fear of her life.
Ghira’s eyes flared with an inner fire. “That little bastard. I’ll hunt him down and kill him myself!” He started to stand up, but Kali grabbed his arm and pulled him back down.
“Violence is not the answer,” she pointedly reminded Ghira before she looked back at Blake. “I can’t imagine what you’ve been through, but I do know that you are strong and you deserve much better than that in life.” She gave Blake an empathetic look. “Make no mistake, I’d like to tear him apart for hurting you, but everything that happened wasn’t your fault. I’m glad you’re getting help, though.”
“Thank you. It’s been difficult, and I’ve felt so guilty about the things I said to you the last time I saw you both.” Blake said with a sniff. “But I am getting better. I’ve made some friends, and reconnected with Colleen, so things are looking up.” It was easier for Blake to be more optimistic of late, especially after closing the chapter of her life relating to her ex.
“We always loved you, Blake. You’re our baby girl, and nothing would ever change that. Not even Scientology could ruin that.” Ghira stated.
“Your father’s right. We’ve missed you, but you’re back now and we’re not going to let you go again.” Kali enveloped Blake in a hug again, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “This is a new beginning, and we’re not going to let you go on without us.”
Blake leaned into her mother’s touch, closing her eyes. It was surreal to be back with her parents like this. But it was good. More than good, really. Blake loved them deeply and she wanted to be around them and be part of their lives again. Especially since she’d finally begun to find her footing in this world and could stand on her own.
“Thanks mom, thanks dad. There’s a lot I have to tell you, more that you deserve to know about things that have happened.” Blake started, but Kali stopped her.
“Not before we have something to eat. Sharing on an empty stomach isn’t a good idea. That includes you, too, Colleen,” Kali said before she got up and went to the kitchen to make some food for everyone.
Blake just shook her head a bit and actually smiled. In a way, it felt like no time at all had passed since she’d last seen her parents. And yet it also felt like that had been a lifetime or two ago. Either way, it felt good to be here with her parents. It felt right, and she could feel some of the pain wash away and give way to the joy of being back with her family.
