Who:Cisco and Barry
What:Meeting at a crime scene
When:Recently after his arrival
Where:A field not far from the Agency
Warnings:Talk of dead bodies
STATUS:complete
The day had been perfectly fine, just an average run of the mill day until it happened. Until Cisco very literally stumbled across a dead body in the middle of an open field not far from his work. He’d been outside testing drones and making sure they were flying properly and functioning properly when he stumbled over a woman lying face down in the dirt. It looked like she’d been suffocated and left for dead in the tall grass. Cisco frowned a bit as he stood and looked around. There was no one to be seen for miles, only him. Well, this was problematic. A Latino man at a crime scene with no other witnesses and a dead woman half clothed.
He had a feeling this was going to turn into a long day. This was the first real dead person he’d ever seen, so when he called into Irvine P.D., he ended up causing a bit of a scene. He wasn’t afraid of a dead body, which made him sound suspicious-but he’d also called the police. They in turn sent out several officers, one of which who seemed to be having a hard time following Cisco’s explanations.
They were very...scientific. Very medical, but Cisco was babbling as well. Not sure how he should conduct himself with police, he didn’t have much by way of experience around them.
---
Barry hadn’t been on the scene for very long, but he had been there long enough to hear the witness babbling away at the officer that was trying to get a statement. He tried not to laugh to himself, but every single time he glanced over and saw the confused looked on the officer’s face, it just set Barry off. Of course he wasn’t laughing loud enough for anyone to hear because that would be unprofessional.
After a while he felt pretty bad for the both of him, so he decided to walk over and step in. “I need him for a minute,” he told the officer. Without even waiting, he guided Cisco away. He didn’t really need the witness. He just wanted to save them both the embarrassment that was going on. “Thought you might need a breather.”
*
The officer taking his statement was less and less amused with the scientific rabble coming out of Cisco’s mouth. Cisco wouldn’t think straight, it wasn’t the dead body that had done it either-it was the appearance of Barry Allen that had thrown him off. Once he was off, there was no stopping him. He’d already scared off three officers with scientific babbling. When Barry announced that he was needed, Cisco felt both a mixture of relief and yet more anxiety. The officer, just looked relieved. “Whatever, maybe you can make sense of his babbling.” He responded with a confused look as he walked off to go take care of whatever task he’d been working on before. That left Cisco alone with Barry.
Someone he knew intimately but Barry didn’t know that yet. “Sorry, I’m not good at this” He’d never worked with police, only in dream land. Some aspects were non transferable. He ran a anxiou hand through his dark hair. “Thanks. Breathing, right-I can do that.” He gave an awkward smile and probably looked just a little bit creepy with his strained effort to appear normal.
---
“Maybe,” was all that Barry said as he watched the officer walk off to do something else. What the guy didn’t know is that Barry got the gist of what Cisco had been saying even though all of his babbling and broken sentences that he had heard.
“It’s okay,” he said, “I don’t think anyone is good with this.” Not too many people could deal with finding a dead body. Other than the babbling, he thought Cisco was doing pretty well after his discovery. “Do you need to sit down or something?”
*
“Can’t.” He explained, his mind was already too busy. It’d gone off on overdrive thanks to those officers and their crowding. They were just doing their jobs, but these days crowds got to him. Be it officers or civilians. He was fidgeting with his hands awkwardly.
“I should be able to do something. Help somehow.” He didn’t really know how until he got a flicker of an idea, but it would involve touching a body. That thought was creepy, was it logical? He didn’t know. “They don’t suspect me do they?” He had drone footage of him not being anywhere around there. When he looked up again, he couldn’t help but let his gaze linger longer than it probably should have. He was exactly the same as the dreams, exactly as he imagined. It was weird, seeing him in the flesh right in front of him. Like something out of theTwilight Zone.
---
“Can’t?” Barry asked a little confused. “You can’t what?”
A lot of people said that. So he wasn’t at all surprised to hear Cisco say it. “You are helping.” Calling the cops and sharing the little bit of info that he had was helping. The poor woman probably would have never been found if Cisco hadn’t decided to come out here. “I doubt it. They might make you come down to the station, though,” he warned. “Just be less scientific if they do want to ask you more questions.”
*
He was clearly a little scattered.Given the circumstances he doubted anyone would blame him.
“What? Oh. Sitting. I can’t right now.” The gears in his head were on overdrive. To the point of it being a little obnoxious even to him. Internally he was already trying to figure out what had happened to that person and why they were left for dead in a field.
He nodded a little stiffly and folded his arms uncomfortably as a way to fight through the nerves.”Less...I can do less I think.” He was already fidgety, so whether or not that was possible time would tell. “...Sorry.” He was aware he probably looked strange. “I work in a lab. You know, with technology and not so many people.”
---
“Oh, okay.” Barry thought that was what Cisco meant, but he hadn’t been quite sure, which is why he asked. Now that they were on the same page they could move on to the next.
“Okay, you know what, you should probably go home and let the shock of today wear off. I’m sure if anyone has anymore questions for you, they’ll get in contact with you.” Social anxiety he got, but Cisco seemed like he might be in shock from finding the dead body, which would be a normal response to somebody who didn’t deal with this kind of thing on a daily basis.
*
Cisco anxiously ran a hand through his hair. He hated that he was so damn awkward with new people, it was frustrating. He wanted nothing more than to get to know Barry, but none of the right words were coming out of his mouth. “...Yeah, yeah..I can do that.” He gave him a strained sort of smile as he glanced back at the crime scene. “Can someone drive me home? Or I have to wait for an uber. I don’t think they’ll come with all this…”
---
Barry followed Cisco’s gaze before looking back at him. “Yeah, sure. Let me find someone for you. Hold on.” He walked off to find somebody to take Cisco home. He figured that he would ask somebody who hadn’t spoken to Cisco yet. After a few minutes, Barry was back at Cisco’s side. “Okay, officer Matthews,” he pointed over to the guy, “Will take you straight home.” He offered Cisco a small smile. “You’ll be fine once you get away from here.”
*
Cisco was distracted up until Barry drew his attention back onto him. Then he seemed to re-focus just fine. He was clearly a bit nervous, but of what was the real question. Many things in that situation were setting his nerves up for anxiety. Looking straight up at Barry for one was one thing. Seeing someone right out of his dreams was incredibly weird. He felt like he knew him, but he didn’t. “Am I going to get my drone back?” He was trying to make his brain function. The drone was likely part of evidence for a bit, but it wasn’t cheap. He eventually wanted it back. “Thanks, I’m Cisco by the way.” Barry didn’t know him. That was a depressing thought, he wasn’t a fan.
--
Barry was about to snap his fingers in front of Cisco’s face when Cisco finally seemed to snap out of it. “Yeah, but not right now. Someone will call you when you’re able to have it back.” How long that would take, Barry didn’t know right now. But if he had to personally hand it over to Cisco so that he wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore, he would. “You’re welcome,” he said with a small smile. “Barry.” Too bad they couldn’t have met under better circumstances. “If you don’t have anymore questions, I should probably get back.”
*
It was pretty obvious Cisco was unnerved by the amount of things going on around him. His focus was’t stella. He was skittish, whenever an officer nearly brushed him in passing by he was hyper aware. He clearly didn’t want to be touched for some reason, but he didn’t think now was the best time to surprise his dream bestie with the fact that he could probably solve that case by touch if they let him. “Good, I like that drone.” He tried for humor, but it was a little strained. “Tell them to be careful? And it’s encrypted.” He would cooperate, he even wrote out the password needed and handed it to him. Nothing important was really on that drone, it wasn’t one that had gone to space. It just had local landscape on it.
“Okay.” He wanted to say more, but it was like his brain had just frozen up. Of course it did, at the most inopportune times. He tried to get him to stay, but it didn’t work. No more words came.
---
“You’ll get it back in one piece, I promise.” Barry took the piece of paper with the password on it and shoved it into his jack pocket.
The way Cisco kept freezing up, just made it feel that much more awkward. And it wasn’t like Barry was lying. He really did need to get back. “Take care,” he told Cisco as he slowly started to back away. He almost said see you later, but he was pretty sure they weren’t going to run into each other any time soon.
