Your boyfriend's watching
Who: Tyler, Caroline and Klaus
What: Klaus and Caroline team up to make Tyler turn back on his humanity
When: February 10th, Tyler's birthday
Where: Klaus and Freya's house
Ratings/Warnings: Gonna go with low/none
Status: Complete

Caroline was well aware of what today was. Tyler’s birthday. Last year she had thrown him a party. This year she was going to make out with his enemy right in front of him. It had taken Caroline a few days to come around to the idea. She would much rather be tortured than kiss Klaus. But after a few days of trying to get through to Tyler only for him to be cruel to her. Well Caroline wasn’t sure how much more she could take. So she finally gave in and told Klaus she would kiss him.

But first, before Klaus showed up, one last attempt. “Tyler,” Caroline pleaded. “Turn it back on, please. I know your dad is gone. I know how much it hurts. But taking the pain away, it doesn’t help.” Caroline knew that first hand too. “You have people here that love you, that want to help.”

Tyler was, to say the least bored. He didn’t know how long Caroline and the Mikaelsons intended to keep him stuck in this room, strapped to this chair, but he was over it. He had been over it days ago.

“You’re just saying that because you don’t know what it’s like, Care,” Tyler said. “It’s the most free I’ve ever felt. I’m telling you, you should try it.” Maybe if Tyler managed to get Caroline to turn hers off too, she’d finally let him out of this place. “At the very least, you could bring me a snack. Something brunette, I think.”

There was no way Tyler was going to get Caroline to turn her humanity off. It went against everything she believed in. He had already tried numerous times with no success. Why did he think it would work now? But then she supposed the same could be said about her. It wasn’t like this was her first time trying to get him to turn his humanity back on.

“Because Tyler,” Caroline replied. “I want to feel. Even the pain of losing my mom. I needed to feel that.” She didn’t even bother responding to the part about the snack. There was no way she was going to bring Tyler someone to feed on.

Klaus was listening from outside. Waiting to make his entrance. Part of him wish Tyler hadn’t been such a douche and ruined his gallery. He had a feeling he might have had a lot of fun with the humanityless hyrbid. But sadly that was not the way it turned out. And now he was about to help get Tyler’s humanity back on. And well if his plan didn’t work? Eventually Tyler would turn his humanity back on anyway. Even if it took decades. And Klaus could always rub the fact that he kissed Caroline in Tyler’s face. That was a victory in itself.

“Feeling is overrated,” Tyler said. Luckily, he didn’t need to worry about that kind of thing. He didn’t need to worry about the pain of not being able to talk to Caroline, or about being able to settle things between his father and him. None of that mattered anymore. All that mattered, really, was his next meal.

And when he was going to get out of this damn chair. He pulled on his chains again and growled. “Maybe I should have bit you when I had the chance,” he growled darkly at her.

And that was Klaus’s cue. He stepped into the room. “You’re wasting your time, love,” Klaus told Caroline. “The Tyler you knew is long gone. Even if he does turn it back on, he will never be the man you deserve. He will never be good enough for you. Hell, his own dad didn’t even care about him.” Words that were also quite true about himself. “Why should you? Tyler is just a lesser, more pathetic version of me,” he paused briefly reaching out for Caroline’s hand, he pulled her to him. “Come on, love,” he said eyes locked on hers. “You know I’m the one you want.”

Every part of Caroline wanted to pull away in disgust. But she couldn’t. This was her last hope. Instead she brought her lips to Klaus’s, kissing him as passionately as she could muster. She closed her eyes and pretended he was Tyler. It was the only way to get through this, and to make it believable.

Tyler turned his snarl to Klaus when he started talking about Tyler’s father, and their relationship or lack thereof. He couldn’t exactly say Klaus was wrong in his observations, and was about to too - what did he care if his dad didn’t care about him? He might be pathetic but he didn’t care. But before he could say anything, Klaus was kissing Caroline.

He was sure it would end soon, but it seemed to keep going, Caroline and Klaus’s arms around one another, and the longer it went the hotter Tyler’s blood ran through his veins. And then, he couldn’t control it anymore. He let out a roar, and strained against the bonds that held him, the emotion flooding into him.

Caroline completely gave herself over to the kiss. Putting everything she felt for Tyler into it. Because yes, she was kissing Klaus, but it was for Tyler. It was to get him back. No, not back to being hers. But back to being himself again. She deepened the kiss, backing Klaus up against the wall.

It was Klaus that broke the kiss. “Careful, love,” he replied softly his hand caressing her cheek. He knew for this to work it had to look like it was more than just sex, like there were actual feelings involved. “Your boyfriend’s watching.”

“Ex boyfriend,” Caroline reminded him, her lips practically back on top of his. “It should have been you all along.”

Tyler roared again, this time his howl turning into words. “Get your hands off of her, you creep,” he yelled. It was like seeing Caroline sleeping with Klaus all over again - granted, it was never a thing he had actually seen, except when it replayed itself in his memory. He was hurt, and betrayed. It hadn’t taken long for Caroline to jump into Klaus’s arms. But right now, it was easier for Tyler to focus on Klaus kissing Caroline instead of Caroline kissing Klaus back.

“Why do you care?” Caroline replied though she did remove her hands from Klaus’s shirt. Could Klaus’s plan really have worked? Even though Caroline knew the break up was because Klaus had forced Tyler to dump her, there was still part of Caroline that worried that he didn’t love her anymore.

Klaus just smirked triumphantly. “Looks like my work here is done,” he commented. “See you later, love,” he added to Caroline giving her a kiss on the cheek before making his exit. Though he did keep his ears open in case he needed to return and make out with the blonde again.

“What do I care?” Tyler snapped, barely paying attention as Klaus left the room. “We’ve been broken up for less than a month, and you’re already throwing yourself at Klaus?”

“You think I wanted to do that?!” Caroline replied so over the rouse. Tyler clearly has his humanity back on, she knew it. Why else would he care? “It got you to feel again didn’t it?” She asked with a raised brow, arms crossed over her chest.

Tyler opened his mouth to argue, that there had to have been a better way than that. But suddenly, he remembered everything he had done over the last two weeks. All the people he had hurt, the people he’d killed, some of whom had been his friends. His words died on his lips, the guilt rushing into him.

“Yeah,” he admitted. “Can you let me go?”

Caroline watched as Tyler’s face changed from anger to guilt. Her heart ached for him. Of course she knew there was no excuse for all the things he had done, but she also knew why he turned his humanity off. Not to mention she still loved him. When he hurt so did she.

“No,” she replied with a frown as she walked closer to him. “I can let you out of the chains,” and she began to do just that. “But we have to wait for Freya to remove the spell.”

Tyler felt a measure of relief when the chains feel away from his arms, and he rubbed his wrist where the chain had been rubbing against it for the last five days. Already, it had healed, though it would take a while for the feeling of the metal against his skin to disappear.

“Caroline, I-” Tyler started, and then stopped. He didn’t even know where to begin apologizing for everything. “I really screwed up,” he finished.

“Yeah,” Caroline agreed as she released the last of the chains. “You did.” She wasn’t going to lie to him to make him feel better. Caroline didn’t approve of how he handled the situation at all. “You must be starving,” she added.

Before he could respond Caroline rushed off to the freezer. Klaus didn’t keep blood bags at the house. Caroline figured he mostly fed on humans. Something she’d rather not think about. But since she had been spending so much time there she had brought some bags to keep at the house.

While she went to grab the bags a few tears fell from her eyes. Now that his humanity was finally back on Caroline could allow herself to feel sad. She had been in problem solving mode for so long. And now, the problem was solved. Tyler was back. But he was no longer hers. She wiped her eyes grabbed a few bags and walked back to Tyler. “Here you go,” she said softly handing them over.

Tyler took the blood bag. He hadn’t realized just how hungry he was until it was placed in his hands, and he tore into it. Once he had drained the bag dry, he felt a little better. Though, if he were being honest, not by much. It hadn’t been hunger that had been the cause of his misery.

“Thanks,” he said begrudgingly, the image of Caroline and Klaus kissing still burned into his mind. That, and everything he had done. Everything that there was no way Caroline would ever approve of. He didn’t even approve of the things he had done. “Do you think you could ask them to let me out?” he asked. “I just… need some time to think by myself.”

“Yeah,” Caroline replied pulling out her cellphone. “I think Freya’s at work. I’ll let her know.” After sending a quick text to Freya she turned her attention back to Tyler. He had said he wanted to be by himself. “Do you want me to go?”

Tyler frowned. Did he want Caroline to go? Not really. He wanted her to stay here with him, by his side. But on the other hand, he couldn’t look at her without imagining Klaus’s tongue in her mouth. Or what had happened between the two of them in the dreams. “I don’t know, Care. Maybe,” he said, looking at the floor between his knees.

Caroline wasn’t sure what she wanted to do either. She wanted to try and be there for Tyler. Turning his humanity back on couldn’t be easy. She knew he was going to be feeling some pretty tough emotions - guilt, sadness, grief. But it was also hurting her to stay. It was hard for her to look at him knowing everything he did. Knowing she could never be with him again. “Okay,” she said stepping closer to Tyler. She bent down and placed a kiss on his cheek, just wanting some form on intimacy before she left. Before she had to go through the break up all over again. “Happy Birthday, Tyler,” she said softly before turning to leave.
