Eren was really, really nervous, even though he had rehearsed this in his head about a million times. Yeah, they still had this and next year of college to get through, but he already knew he wanted to be with Armin for the rest of his life. They were already living together. And he knew Armin loved him. But the little voice in the back of his head kept asking “what if he says no?” Eren put his hand down in the pocket of his hoodie to fiddle with the small box inside it and told that little voice to shut up.
“Hey, Armin? Before we go to dinner, what do you think about going by the cafe off campus? The one we went on our first date? I mean I know it’s in the opposite direction of where we’re going, but it is our anniversary. I thought it would be nice to swing by there.”

Armin was looking forward to tonight. To getting to celebrate his second anniversary with his boyfriend. They’d worked their schedules so they could both be off tonight and had gotten reservations at a restaurant they’d both been wanting to try. He looked over at Eren when he heard his name, both their phones on his lap as he hit the Pokestops they went past, loading up on pokeballs for both of them in preparation for the next community day. “You asking if I want dessert first Eren? You know the answer to that question is always going to be yes.”
***
Eren hummed at that and nodded. “Well, part of it is dessert first. But I also thought it would be nice just to recreate that first part of our first date today, too.” He also was planning on asking Armin at the coffee shop. He had already phoned them earlier and asked if they could help. He hoped the answer to that question would also be yes.
“I don’t suppose it’s given me anymore eggs yet, has it?” he asked as he glanced as Armin played with their phones. He was nervous and sometimes he just had the need to keep talking when he was. To try to keep his mind from going through the scenarios.

“We should go to that cafe more often anyway. They do have the best frosting on their cakes…” Armin teased him, knowing that it would annoy his boyfriend if he criticized the bakery he worked at but he just couldn’t help himself. And they both knew he loved the brownies more than anything else that bakery sold.
“Not yet but...I sent you a gift so maybe you’ll get one of those eggs?” he suggested, spinning another pokestop as they went past. “And I didn’t think you’d mind that I caught a alolan eevee for you that I saw.” He told him.
***
“Are you insulting my icing?” Eren teased back softly, mock pouting at him before turning his attention back to the road, changing lanes to drive in the direction of the cafe instead. The cafe did have good cake, though. And he knew how much Armin loved those brownies.
“Aren’t all my eevees your eevees?” he laughed. He already was planning on buying the eevee version of the new game as his big present for the Holidays this year. “I don’t know how you’re able to do both phones at once, I’ve never been able to multitask that way.”
***
Armin gave him his best innocent look. “Who me? Never.” He tried to keep that innocent look on his face but eventually he caved, leaning over to kiss his cheek softly before sitting back in his seat.
“Just like all my bulbasaurs are your bulbasaurs.” He responded, spinning the pokestop they passed by on both their phones. He was trying to get his hands on some bulbasaur thing that Eren didn’t have as a present for him, but so far he hadn’t come across anything in his price range that wasn’t ridiculous. Or something that would be more for him than his boyfriend. “I also read three books at once love so I guess I’ve just...learned how to multitask?”
***
“I still don’t know how you do that. I’d be so mixed up about what happened in which book.” Eren teased as he turned the corner, turning onto the road leading to the cafe. His heart speeded up as it came into view. He was so nervous about what he was going to ask his boyfriend, what his answer would be. He just… really hoped he said yes.
“Want to grab us a table while I order our drinks and pastries? Cake and what to drink?” he asked as he pulled into the parking lot.
***
It had taken Armin a bit but he finally noticed the nervous undercurrent to his boyfriend’s words. “Eren...what’s going on? Is everything okay?” He asked, handing him back his phone after Eren parked the car, staring at him as he waited for the answer, chewing on his lower lip.
***
Eren never meant to make his boyfriend worried. He leaned in to kiss him as he unbuckled his seatbelt. “Nothing’s wrong, Bunny. Okay? I promise nothing’s wrong.” His heart was only going a million miles an hour because ...well. Most people are nervous when they ask this, aren’t they?
***
Armin gave Eren a sort of worried smile at that reassurance. “Okay. If you promise.” He murmured, unbuckling so that he could get out, thinking back over the door to try to figure out if something had happened earlier in the day that could be bothering him. Maybe it was something at his job…
***
“I do.” Eren murmured, trying to reassure the blonde. He stole another kiss before getting out of the car, locking the door after he made sure Armin was out. He opened the cafe door for the other boy and gave him a smile before heading to the counter. He ordered their drinks and a pastry for himself, as well as the cake Armin had wanted. He had already asked for something special to be done to the plate in advance, the words ‘Will you marry me?’ written around the rim of the plate in syrup.
***
Armin counted himself lucky that he was able to get a table, noticing after he slid into the booth that it was the same one they’d sat at the day they’d met. He looked up as Eren walked over to him with their order. “You should have told me you needed help carrying it all.” He said, eyes falling onto the syrup words on his plate. His jaw dropped and he looked up at Eren, unable to speak for a moment as he just stared at him. “Eren…”
***
Eren gave Armin a nervous smile as he laid the tray down on their table. His heart pounded harder waiting for Armin to respond. When he heard his name he reached into his hoodie pocket as he got down on one knee. The ring was custom made, using the metal and gems from two rings each of his grandmothers gave him. They were thrilled he was, as they each put it, ‘finally making an honest man out of that boy’ when he told them he was planning to ask him.
“If you want to wait until school’s over, that’s okay. We can have a long engagement. Or we can try for summer break next year. I… I just know I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Here and in our dreams, all I ever wanted was that.”
***
Armin felt his heart almost stop as Eren got down on one knee and pulled that box out of his pocket, opening it to show what Armin thought had to be the most beautiful ring in the world. “Can I have my ring? Or do I actually have to say yes? Because you know that’s what I want to say…” He whispered, eyes going back and forth between the ring and Eren’s face.
***
Eren laughed at Armin’s answer to his question with one of his own. That was definitely the most Armin way to answer that question. “A yes would be nice, but I’ll take it.” he teased as he reached for Armin’s hand. He slid the ring onto Armin’s finger before standing up and stealing a soft kiss.
***
Armin laced his fingers with Eren’s as he kissed him back, pulling back enough to speak quietly. “Yes. Yes I will marry you. After school’s finished because….I can’t plan a wedding and work and study and...I can’t manage that much at once,” he murmured to him.
***
Eren nodded before stealing another kiss. “That’s more than fair enough. And we’ll plan it together after graduation. ...And I wouldn’t want you to spread yourself too thin doing three or four major things like that at once, Indy.”
***
Armin grinned at that familiar nickname and squeezed his hand gently in gratitude for just understanding how much that would overwhelm him. He would want it to be perfect and would be disappointed in himself if it wasn’t. And Eren got that without him having to say a word. “We don’t have to wait until after graduation to plan it. ...Just set the date for sometime after.”
***
“Maybe set it for the anniversary of the day we met?” Eren asked as he squeezed his fingers back gently. “And that’s not just me cheating to try to have one anniversary to remember, before you ask. I just… I think it’s fitting. And hey, I’m sure Mom will want to make our cake, so we’ve already got that part figured out and covered?”
***
Armin laughed at the way Eren answered his question before he even got to ask it. “Sure it’s not. ...It’s cheating so that I only have one anniversary to remember and you’re trying to help me save face I know.” He teased him. “But I think that’d be perfect. Picking that day. Maybe if she doesn’t want to make our cake...she can help us pick someone who’s almost as good? And I won’t even ask for a brownie cake.”
***
“I’ve never even heard of a brownie cake before. Is that a hint for your birthday?” he asked as he slid into his seat across from Armin, still holding his hand. “I’m really, really glad you like the ring. It’s made using rings both my grandmother’s gave me…. They’re both extremely happy I’m ‘finally making an honest man out of that boy’.”
***
“How have I not told you about brownie cakes before now?” Armin asked, eyes darting between Eren and his ring. He almost wanted to pinch himself. Make sure it was really happening. “I love it. Especially knowing they helped by giving you rings for it. I’ll have to thank them next time we go visit…”
***
Eren shook his head at that question. “You haven’t, maybe because of me working in Mom’s shop since I was 15 you figured I’d know? Which… fair to be honest.” He grinned as he noticed his boyfriend… no, his fiance’s eyes moving back towards his hand, and he squeezed his fingers lightly. He was so glad Armin loved his ring. That Armin said yes. “We’ll visit them and you can show off what it looks like. They never got to see the finished ring. And it looks better on your hand than I ever could have imagined it to.”
