The smile was firm on Elena’s face as she all but tugged her brother through the mall. “Come on, Jeremy. It’s a tradition at this point and you can’t just stop doing traditions.” There had been some discussion as to whether or not they were too old to get a picture with Santa but Elena had argued quite strongly in favor of continuing this particular holiday tradition, even if they would be the oldest non-parents in line to meet the gentleman.
“Maybe if you ask nicely he’ll get you exactly what you want for Christmas.”
Having a picture taken with Santa wasn’t something Jeremy had done in awhile seeing as how neither Elena or Katherine had been around the previous Christmas and even if Katherine had, she certainly would have stood firm on the fact that she was too old for something like that, but it wasn’t really a surprise that Elena would want to do it. Elena and Katherine might have been twins, but their appearance was where their similarities ended.
“I don’t know. I don’t think he’s gonna get me a new car.” Not that Jeremy actually needed a new car, but it was the first thing that came to mind that would seem impossible for Santa to get. Then again, considering the crazy things that went on in the OC, it probably was possible.
“Do you need a new car?” Concerned eyes shifted to her brother. Was there something horribly wrong with his? Not that she was completely broke, mind, but a new car was a large expense.
“Or are you just trying to be difficult?”
Jeremy smirked at his sister and shook his head, “No, I don’t need a new car. You should know by now when I’m messing with you.” After all, if anyone knew Jeremy better than Myrcella, it was Elena. “So you don’t have to worry that I’m having any problems and keeping them from you.” Jeremy was well past the point of keeping things bottled up as he had a few years earlier, after their parents had died so there was very little for Elena to worry about.
“So, what’re you gonna ask Santa for?” He asked as they approached the area of the mall where Santa was situated, which included a rather long line of parents and children. “Oh this is gonna be fun.”
She nodded, relaxing somewhat now that he had confirmed all was well. Even if she did know her brother, Elena couldn’t help but worry that something bad would happen.
“It will be fun,” she answered, nudging him back. “And as for what I’ll ask for…” A shake of her head. “Just a nice Christmas with friends and family. That’s all I really need right now.” Time with her loved ones. “And if he can pull off a miracle, it might even be nice to have Katherine home for the holidays.”
Jeremy wasn’t the least bit surprised by Elena’s wish. She had always been the more sentimental one out of the three of them, but in this case he had to agree with her. After all of the things they had gone through over the last couple of years as well as the things the OC tended to throw at them, a nice Christmas with friends and family would be the best thing they could get. “It would be nice if Katherine came home, but I don’t think that’s going to happen this years.” It was unfortunate that their sister wasn’t around, but at the same time, Jeremy was grateful, because if she was in Orange County, sooner or later both her and Elena would become vampires and that was the last thing he wanted.
“Probably not,” Elena agreed. And it really was too bad. She did miss her twin quite a bit. “Maybe we can FaceTime her or something on Christmas itself.” That, at least, would give the illusion of a Christmas with one another.
“Short of a Christmas miracle, that is. But I won’t hold my breath. So I’ll be happy spending time with you and Myr.”
Jeremy nodded as they moved up in the line, “Yeah, we can definitely FaceTime her,” It would be nice to talk to their sister on Christmas, even if she would likely act like it was no big deal. But Jeremy knew his sister well enough to know that while she might not make the effort to call them on Christmas, if they called her, she’d be grateful, even if she didn’t act like that. “And we’ll be happy to have you with us.”
“Thanks, Jer,” she smiled over at him. “And just wait until I show Myr this picture.” The line had moved faster than they expected and her grin widened as she tugged Jeremy forward, taking a seat on one of Santa’s knees. “Now say cheese….”
