Who: Ruby and Weiss with a drop in by Freya
What: Checking on Weiss because of dreams
When: Early morning, November 24th
Where: Weiss’
Warnings: Dream injuries
Status: Log | Complete
’NO!’ Jaune’s voice echoed through the hall, though Weiss could hardly hear it over the ringing in her ears. Ruby had shouted and the room had gone blindly white for a moment, and she was still recovering from all of the din when something sharp and burning scorched its way through her.
The fight with Vernal had sapped her aura and her stamina, and there was nothing to protect her from the lance that had impaled her. It was the most pain she’d ever felt in her life, though it was hard to feel anything at all through the shock.
She had a second to stare down at her hands, helplessly trying to close around the spear, before it disintegrated and she tipped into darkness. The last thing she heard was Jaune shouting out her name.
Weiss had been napping on the couch. The day before had been a long flight home - another business trip her father had blackmailed her into over the past month and a half - and she’d spent most of the day laying around.
It wasn’t like there was much else to do. Limited fun, zero access to friends, and her own house turned into a holding cell. Her dream mansion back in Atlas had been the epitome of a gilded cage; She knew how to recognize another one when she saw it.
Her dream startled her off of the couch and onto the floor, jolting her awake. Awake, and in pain. She glanced down at her torso and the well of blood that had already formed from the injury that must have bled through. “Not again,” She groaned.
Last time this had happened, she’d called Ruby. This time, her mind reeled into a state of near panic. Who could she call? Who would her father allow her to call? She had no idea what to do.
And just like that, the Battle of Haven had begun. They had been called to see Lionheart but something was off, he was acting strange - even for him from what Ruby had been able to see. But then Raven arrived and despite her attempts to get her to join them in the fight against Salem, it seemed as though the woman was more content to join with Salem. You sound just like your mother and then pain because of a fireball to the abdomen.
Cinder.
Emotions were running high and despite her uncle’s attempts to get them to calm down, it was impossible. Pyrrha’s murderer was right there and just like Salem, Cinder didn’t care about who got killed. She even seemed to revel in it and Jaune was too overpowered but Emerald wasn’t letting her help him, instead wrapping her in chains and knocking her to the ground.
But then, in the midst of trying to convince Emerald that there was another way (yet she was too devoted to Cinder), of fighting a mirage, she turned and saw what looked to be inevitable death for yet another friend. And she was back on the clock tower, Pyrrha disintegrating right in front of her.
“No!”
And the headache and blinding light were back, and then nothing. But then she was waking up and confused. But Weiss was hurt and Jaune was...doing something? She didn’t know. Her head hurt and so much was going on and there was still a fight that needed to be dealt with and since there was nothing she could do to help Weiss, she would go and do what she could.
Waking up, Ruby’s work room was filled with the silver light that quickly died down as she sat up and whimpered. Right. Injuries. Because her aura wasn’t activated when she slept, and even if she’d been awake it wasn’t like aura was on all the time. That wasn’t the main thing she was focused on, though. No. Ruby was worried about Weiss. True there was nothing to say that Weiss would be at the same point as Ruby in the Dreams but logic wasn’t really a thing at the moment.
So doing some quick first aid on herself, Ruby quickly left the house without really paying attention to if she was alone or not and instead just focused on getting to Weiss’, utilizing her semblance to get there quicker even if it was a drain on her Aura. And once there? She just knocked on the door frantically.
“Weiss!? Are you in there!? Are you okay?!”
She wasn’t even thinking about how Weiss might not even be home right now (which would make sense), Ruby just needed to make sure she was okay.
It was hard to hear anything over the rushing in her ears, but Weiss could make out the thumping on her front door. Was that Ruby's voice? How did she even know to be here? There were too many questions, and her mind was still reeling. Weiss pushed herself to her feet and started trying to stumble to the door, one hand pressed against the wound on her front. There was nothing she could do about her back at all.
Hopefully, no matter who was at the door, she could get some help. She twisted the lock free and stumbled backwards as she swung the door open. Not only because the door was heavy and she was weaker than usual, but also because of who was standing there.
Weiss blinked her eyes a few times, looking completely dumbfounded. "It's... am I hallucinating or is that really ... I thought Yang told everyone to stay away?"
There was a lot that Ruby didn’t quite understand and there was part of her that had just figured that Weiss had grown tired of her like most people had and one of the reasons she had never been super into making friends before when she already had her sister and uncle and dad. But just because she had felt that didn’t mean that she was going to sit back when Weiss had been injured in her dreams after she’d been knocked out and so of course in her panic she had gone to check on her friend.
True there had been part of her that had been convinced that Weiss would be fine and she was being irrational and it wasn’t like dreams just lined up like that. But she had still needed to know. And now?
“Ohmigod,” And Jaune wasn’t there doing whatever he’d been doing in the Dreams and she didn’t know if he was even at that point yet to try and call him to see if he could help. Which was why she didn’t even respond to whether or not Yang had told her to stay away. She was more focused on the fact that Weiss was bleeding and badly.
“Should you even be standing?! We need to get you help! I can call an ambulance or...something.”
She didn’t know. But that was the immediate idea that came to mind. Though she knew that the Agency had come up with clinics for this sort of situation. All she knew was that she needed to help Weiss.
"It's... it's fine, I'm sure it's fine..." Weiss mumbled. She didn't dare move her hand away from her side, though, not even to try and show Ruby that it wasn't that bad. She didn't really know how bad it was. Or if this was how her dreams ended, and she was too afraid to ask.
The room was wobbling back and forth, and Weiss held out a hand in Ruby's general direction to steady herself. "We can't... no hospitals... father will kill me. And you shouldn't- I don't want you to get in trouble. As soon as my aura kicks in I'll be fine?"
If by 'fine' she meant three seconds from falling over. The floor and all horizontal positions were starting to feel really good to Weiss, but she still didn't want Ruby to get into any trouble. Maybe Jaques didn't have her on 24/7 surveillance or maybe he did, but if Ruby called an ambulance then he'd definitely know she was still a factor in Weiss’s life.
“It’s definitely not fine!” Because while Ruby was often seen as naive or innocent, she also wasn’t unaware. And she knew that Weiss was not fine. It took Jaune doing...something to heal her. Ruby still didn’t know exactly what he was doing in the Dreams because she had needed to focus on the fight that was also going on. There was too much going on in the Dreams to know what was happening at any one given moment right now.
The comment on how Weiss’ father would kill her and somehow Ruby would get in trouble for helping her? That made absolutely no sense because why would a father kill their daughter for getting help and why would her helping Weiss get her in trouble?
Right, not something she could really think about right now. She needed to focus on helping Weiss. So she was just going to keep Weiss upright and help her.
“Okay, no hospitals, but we need to get you help. Do you know any healers or anything?” She knew that they existed but Ruby hadn’t really spoken to any of them but there were times people showed up on the Network injured in search of help. She really should pay more attention to that.
"I don't..." Weiss replied at first, while flopping more heavily against Ruby. But her mind dimly recalled a name, someone who had helped Feyre one time with a very bad dream injury. What had her name been again? Frel, Frigga, no, but it was definitely something like that.
"There's a witch on the network... something... Norse. It begins with an F and isn't Frigga."
Managing to support Weiss’ weight, Ruby nodded and got them situated on the ground since standing clearly wasn’t something her friend could really do. Right, okay. Witch with a Norse name…. Thank goodness for working for the Agency since she then had contact information for members of the Magic Guild since they were consultants.
And there was a Norse name that started with an F. Quickly calling the number, Ruby was relieved when she got a response.
“Um hi, my name is Ruby and my friend Weiss woke up injured and she really needs help but can’t go to a hospital.”
For the most part, Ruby was managing to keep a semblance of calm because she had to be but inside she was panicking because what if Freya didn’t show up on time? Still it seemed the woman on the other end of the phone seemed to pick up on that and once she gave an address, she hung up and focused on Weiss.
“It’s going to be okay, I promise. Freya’s on her way.”
As for Freya? Well, that was new. But she remembered Weiss from the network when she’d gone to the hospital to help someone and it wasn’t like she could just...turn her back on someone who needed her help. So despite the early hour (or was it late? Honestly she didn’t know), the witch packed up her supplies and headed to the address, utilizing a transportation spell given the urgency of the matter.
Knocking on the door, Freya entered once Ruby called out and went to the two and did a quick scan to get an idea of the extent of the damage. Kneeling down before Weiss, Freya began the spell and focused on it and the magic, feeling as it took hold and started healing Weiss.
Weiss spent most of the time waiting on the floor in a haze, somewhere before complete unconsciousness but unable to really fixate on anything going on. Ruby's words echoed around her, and she had a vague thought that being on the floor was an extremely good place to be just then. She'd have opened her mouth to say so, but that felt like too much effort.
So mostly, she tried to hold on to the warmth of Ruby nearby. However bad this ended up in the dreams, she had a good feeling that today at least, she was going to survive this.
That feeling rang all the more true when she could feel the spell take hold and her wound start to mend. There was a slight feeling of Deja vu as her eyes flickered open and she looked up at someone with blonde hair. "Whatever you're doing," she said, weakly, "It's working."
Ruby was just relieved that Freya had answered because she honestly didn’t know if there would have been time to post on the network and hope that someone was up and able to help. Or to get Weiss to one of the clinics set up by the Agency for situations like this. So her main focus at the moment was just keeping Weiss conscious and okay enough to hold on. She wasn’t losing Weiss. No one else was going to die.
Still, today at the very least, Weiss was going to make it. Because Ruby didn’t know what was coming in the Dreams, not exactly. Yang had spoken about the Battle of Haven but she’d been more caught off guard about Raven being the Spring Maiden to take much else in about the battle and thus Weiss’ well being. Though she figured that Yang would have warned her if something were to happen to Weiss.
As for Freya? She just nodded some at Weiss’ comment.
“Good. Now be quiet and conserve your energy.”
It would make the healing go by faster. Still, it was good to know that the spell was working. Not that she was surprised. Freya had brought people back from actual death before.
Following orders was something that Weiss was, technically, very good at. Especially after the past few months. Her father had worn down most of her rebellious streak, so she simply nodded, just slightly, and kept her mouth shut.
But she made sure to squeeze Ruby's hand so that her teammate - her friend, she reminded herself - would know that she was still hanging on.
It wasn't long before the wound had closed to the point where she could take a deep, easy breath. It felt like coming back from the brink, and she wanted to let out a little giggle of relief. But her stern healer was still at work, and she thought it was best to remain still until she was certain it was safe.
Freya was definitely against anyone who tried to control others as choice was always a big thing for her. Unless they were abusive assholes who needed to be compelled to go away, but that tended to be it. But while she had noticed the post Weiss had made about an upcoming diamond campaign, she hadn’t paid much attention to it and kept scrolling. Still, not being fought on this particular thing - resting and conserving energy though - was a good thing.
After a bit, she noticed some white shimmer start to happen and mix with her magic, and whatever it was, it seemed to be working on the healing so that was also a good thing. Clearly a dream thing as well.
Ruby returned the hand squeeze and just remained as she was. There were no people to fight so she could actually focus on Weiss instead of having to leave her to Jaune, Nora, and Ren because there were things that required her immediate attention once she knew Weiss would be okay.
The weak shimmering of her aura ramped up into a rippling white glow, especially around the edges of the wound which was now nearly healed fully. She could feel it tingling all around her, and hoped that her dream self had found a way to get through this, too. As far as she was aware, semblances with healing powers were rare on Remnant. And she had no idea what kind of magic still existed outside of the ability to turn people into shapeshifting birds.
Now that she was certain the worst was over, she cracked an eye open again and looked up at Ruby, "Tell me I survive this in our dream world. I'm going to be royally pissed off if I died to that bitch."
As for Ruby? She hadn’t exactly gotten far enough to know if Weiss would survive or not. She had woken up once she was certain that she was okay while Ren and Nora stood guard over Jaune and Weiss as Jaune did the healing or whatever it was he was doing. All she knew was that it was working.
“I’m pretty sure you do. Yang didn’t mention anything about you not making it and she already got through the fight.” And everything with Raven apparently. Still, she had to believe that Yang would have told her or Weiss if she didn’t make it as a warning and yet she hadn’t… so that pointed to the fact that Weiss would be okay there.
Which was good and not something she had super been thinking about when she woke up since she’d just been determined to make sure Weiss was okay after waking up, completely forgetting logic. Though it worked out that she had shown up given Weiss needed help.
As for Freya? While part of her was wondering about her tendency to end up crossing paths with Evie’s ex or her ex’s dream mates, she was a bit more focused on the healing. Which..whatever the shimmering thing going on seemed to help with and soon enough, she was healed.
“You should be good now. How are you feeling?”
Well, 'pretty sure' would have to do, Weiss thought. Like Ruby, she was certain Yang would have mentioned it otherwise. It was some level of comfort to know that Yang was ahead of them all and give them a heads up if they needed one.
She took a deep breath in, and then let it out. The pain was completely gone, and Weiss nodded her head. "Tired, mostly. But my aura is back and I'm definitely still breathing. Actually I think you might have cured the cold I was getting, too."
It was in her usual, slightly imperious tone of voice, but then Weiss's look softened and she smiled at Freya. "Thank you for coming." The squeeze of Ruby's hand was another thank you, the kind she still felt uncomfortable saying in front of others.
Ruby knew that it had been hard for Yang dealing with the dreams on her own for so long, but they were there now. And well, now that they had gotten this far, she did figure it was one of the things she would have actually said instead of a vague things get worse. Admittedly Ruby hadn’t asked for more information and just threw herself into her schoolwork and all that followed…. But she was taking the fact that Yang had gotten through the end of the battle and didn’t mention anything to mean that Weiss would be fine.
Freya quirked a brow at the cold comment but nodded with a slight smile.
“Being tired makes sense, but I’m glad I was able to help. I’ll leave you two then unless you need anything else?”
Ruby couldn’t think of anything and just returned the hand squeeze before looking to Weiss to see if she needed anything else because as far as she could see, they were fine now.
Weiss shook her head. Aside from the mess and the hole in her shirt, everything was perfectly back to normal. She made to get off the floor, deciding it was undignified to keep laying there. When she was finally on her feet, she asked, "Do you need anything, though? For your trouble, I mean."
At the question, Freya shook her head.
“No, but thank you. I'm just glad I was able to help.”
Which had basically been her response when she had helped Feyre.
"Alright..." Weiss replied, suddenly feeling awkward. It was like standing in the presence of Winter, or someone else who was capable and powerful and worthy of admiration. Now that she was all healed up, she wasn't sure what to do.
About Freya, or about Ruby. She glanced around the front hall, wondering if they really were on camera like she suspected. If so, Jacques had just gotten more of a show than he bargained for. "Well... I am definitely okay now. Though I really should take care of all of this mess. But I really do appreciate everyone's help. You both saved my life."
With nothing else to say and not really knowing Weiss, Freya just nodded.
“If you need anything, feel free to call or text. Otherwise I’ll see you around.” Because really, what more was there to say?
And Ruby? She just nodded some.
“I’ll help!” Because of course she would. It was Ruby, she wanted to help.
